The Vancouver Poetry Slam Finals will be held on Monday April 20th at the RIO Theatre on Broadway.  They're located pretty much right on the corner of Broadway and Commercial.
The feature will be Shane Koyzan, winner of the 2000 National Poetry Slam Individual Title (only Canadian to do so) and multiple Vancouver Poetry Slam Team Member.  Shane has been the Vancouver Grand Slam Champion more often than any other poet.  He's currently running a show at the Firehall Arts Centre as well until April 11th.  Check him out at both shows.
You can purchase tickets to the Finals night at the Monday April 13th Instant Poetry Slam or online at www.vancouverpoetryhouse.com
We have our 8 poets going out for the team now as well.  They are (in no particular order) Duncan Shields, Lisa Slater, Steve Miller, Spillious the Ridiculous One, Nora Smithhisler, Johnny Macrae, Chris Gilpin, and RC Weslowski.
Tickets are $10 in advance.  $8 for Youth (18 and under) and tickets will be $15 at the door the day of the show.
Hope to see you there.

It's going to be a busy next couple of months at the Vancouver Poetry Slam as we head into Spring 2009 and our Van Slam Playoffs.
First though we have the Sistahood Invitational Poetry Slam.  This night will feature 8 Vancouver Poets going head to head for cash prizes plus a feature from New Yorks Jeanne Verlee.  This happens on March 9th at Cafe Deux Soleils.
Then on Saturday March 14th for female power-house poets hit town for the Salt Lines Tour.  Their list of accomplishments is too long to mention in this space but suffice it to say they are some of the best in the business and they all cut their teeth in the poetry slam scene: Tara Hardy, Andrea Gibson, Sonya Renee and Denise Jolly.  The show is at the WISE Hall and tickets will be available in advance at the SISTAHOOD SLAM.
The week after that is March 16th where we will feature Chicago's JW Baz plus we'll hold our Last Chance Slam.  This will be the final opportunity for poets who have yet to qualify for the Van Slam Playoffs to do so.  Win and you are in.  2nd might get you there too but don't hedge your bets, come out firing.
Sign up for the Last Chance Slam starts at 8pm.  The open mic gets us going early at 8:45.  The slam starts at 9pm.  $5.
The playoffs start with our first semi final on March 30th.  We keep selling the Cafe out so arrive early if you want a decent seat.

The Vancouver Poetry Slam has a new bi monthly regular event happening at Cafe Deux Soleils.  It's called Friday Night Words.  A creative name it's true.
We've already put on a couple of these events but starting Jan 30th it becomes a regular series featuring Tara Hardy from Seatlle as well as Duncan Shields and Lisa Slater from Vancouver.
Tara Hardy has been a pre emininent figure in the Seattle Poetry Scene for the last decade now and this is a rare chance to catch a feature length set from her in Vnacouver.
Duncan has been wowing crowds at the Van Slam for the past year, now.  He has a piece up on our MYSPACE page from the NERD Poetry Slam where he was fantastic.
Lisa is our PSI Slammaster and hasn't had much opportunity to show her poetry skills as of late.  But this night she gets to strut her stuff.  Come see why she inspires many a poet in the Van Slam Scene.
It all gets going around 9 o'clock.

The Vancouver Poetry Slam held its Women of the World Poetry Slam Finals this past Monday, January 5th at Cafe Deux Soleils.  8 of our finest female poets took the stage to compete in 3 rounds of poetic excellence to see who would represent Vancouver at the 2009 Women of the World Poetry Slam Tournamnet in Detroit Michigan this March.

The eventual winner was Sasha J. Langford.  We have video from the night highlighting all 8 of the poets.  Thanks to Warren Dean Fulton for putting it all together.

Also performing was Magpie Ulysses who did a flair inflected energy blast of a feature.  Very funny stuff.  Thanks, Magpie!

Here's the video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc3a28gdsMg

Enjoy.

PS...The rest of our regular season slams are now qualifiers to make the Van Slam Playoffs in March and April.  There's only a handful of "regular season" slams left.  Playoffs are a Month earlier this year so don't wait.

The next qualifier is Monday January 19th.

There's new audio up on the site now.  3 new poems from the first Van Slam Nerd Poetry Slam.  Pieces from Duncan Shields, Shannon Rayne and Chris Gilpin.  I hope you like them.  The crowd at the show seemed to. 140 plus in Cafe Deux Soleils (don't tell them that.)

Also, good luck to Zaccheus Jackson who left today to go compete and the Individual World Poetry Slam in Charlotee, N. Carolina to represent our venue, our scene and himself of course.  Break a leg dude.
