"His early-morning cigarette voice and guitar in
tow, Emmet Scanlan rounds up his oddly named posse for a debut that makes a
considerable virtue of its scattergun song book. With echoes of Brendan Murphy
and The Four of Us’ strutting cockiness, as well as whispers of long, dark
songwriting nights, Scanlan co stretch their canvas wide. Their soundtrack
experience on the short film, Without Words , may be paying dividends on Hands
, where they sink deep beneath the skin of a song. They resist the the
temptation to rev it up and instead bask in a slow- burning atmosphere. This is
what happens with Gotcha Looking On and its companion piece, Dressed . Cello
lines suggest a hankering after the mystery of Nick Drake, a well-chosen acolyte,
should they need one. www.emmetscanlan.com SIOBHÁN LONG "

With no album yet released, the buzz about this young Irish band has already elevated them to the top of there genre both home and abroad, this is the beginning of something special' The Times
Emmet formed the band 2 years ago in Galway, Ireland. with a vision of bringing his songs to a wider audience. Through a series of good luck and coincidence, he put together a band of multi-cultural style and background. Working as a group, they have put a stamp on the music which falls fresh on the ears of most and the unusual combination of instruments has created quite a unique and defining sound!
Since the release of their debut EP in early 2006, key events have occurred for the band to propel them to where the currently stand - After hearing the EP Damien Rice invited the band to play his stage at the 'Electric Picnic' and since then they have been selling out their show's Country wide, and are a festival favourite.
They have spent the last year in The Hatch studio in England recording tracks for the eagerly awaited debut album which will be released late summer 2008.

"Galway-based Emmet Scanlan and his four-piece band have a fine 4-track CD with all original Scanlan songs marrying Irish folk with Americana and bluegrass touches. The blend of Irish, Italian, Swedish and Scottish musicians gives the loose band sound a uniqueness that sets it apart, and Scanlan's expressive vocals carry the songs off with aplomb.
It really comes together on 'You Know Who Knows', with its plaintive fiddle playing and percussive backing. 'The Great Unknown' is another gem, with Scanlan's voice in full command and the band providing a suitably evocative soundscape. 'Hands' is a longer workout that allows the band to blossom and flower. If you need a Waterboys for the third millennium, look no further." Jackie Hayden - Hotpress

Current mood: weird
After learning all that I needed to know about distended herniae, floating spleens and imploding rectums, I decided to hang up my white coat(and handcuffs), find 4 other unsavory twists such as myself and form What the Good Thought - the finest sounding bunch of gypsy's to grace your virginal ears - quiet good-looking too! Having dragged them out of the tightest scenarios in the furthest flung regions of Europa, they turned out to be pretty tasty - A Swedish fiddler who'd perfer to remain pants-less named V An unassuming and quiet-a-hit-with-the-ladys Italian percussionist named Alan. A gutsy bonny Scotslady who makes the cello sing and dance, laugh and cry A Scandinavian Peter who plays his guitar like Casanova played the ladys in his Sunday finest And yours truely, who knows a little about somethings and alot about nothing ! Have a listen to the songs, there all off our debut EP! We're trekking the Emerald Isle to promote, check the listings for the gigs in your area!
Hope you enjoy the show..........
