The tombstone is in a little French town called Nissan...I love visiting cemetaries like these and it cracked me up to see this. I had a wonderful time there, but this was just too cool. Too bad it is not the first of April :)

Hey my comicfriends!!

I just found out that my actual face was used as reference for an interior page in a comic.

Soooo...after seeing my gravestone in Tucci's  "Heroes for Hire" and seeing a cop with my nametag being gutted by a Darkling in Eric Basaldua's "Darkness Level Three" (there must be some 'hidden' message in there...) I now am very very honoured to seeing me as a pirate in the November-scheduled issue of

"She-Buccaneer 3"

Ain't that something!!!!???

The one with the patch by the way :p

Yesterday I went to the movies with a friend of mine (Spiderwick Chronicles) in Eindhoven, Holland

As soon as we walked underneath the trainstation it became obvious (due to the many guys in uniform and squadcars) that a soccermatch was to be played.

Normally I do not care about a soccermatch but this time some 50 "soccer-police"-ladies were present. They were supporting (promotion trick by some company for moral support) the real police in their negotiations for better wages as well as giving moral support in their work with the soccerfans...

Would love to have "played ball" with those grrls!!

Tough talk ofcourse, since I was not even able to get a picture taken of them :D :D

PULSE: Interview with Schaffer on THE SCRIBBLER

QUOTE
There's a pilot issue of a potential series called KILLDARLINGS in production now. It's a different route again for me, and another new art style, but it should appeal to the DOGWITCH readers as there's blood dripping off of just about every page. It's post-modern horror once again, incorporating a more satirical look at celebrity, and dissecting it much more viciously than DOGWITCH ever did. There's some info on www.killdarlings.com .

Schaf keeps me intrigues, keeps my mind busy and I am always looking out for the works of this madman.

So I am reaally looking forward to reading SCRIBBLER, seeing if it will fit me like Dogwitch did (and Indigo not) and I am already plain wet about KILLDARLINGS

BROKEN FRONTIER: Interview with Schaffer on THE SCRIBBLER

QUOTE
There's a fine line between selling yourself and acting like an egomaniac. Like I'm always saying, the people who shout the loudest don't necessarily have anything better to say than the quiet ones, and I don't want to tell anyone how to understand this book. The themes are there if you're interested in them, but I don't mind if you ignore them and read it as a straightforward thriller or horror book. There's a secret message hidden in the pages, but you don't have to look for it. If you just want to sit back and enjoy watching these characters physically manifest their IDs and float around in the air doing weird stuff, that's okay with me too.

Really good reads!!!

KILLDARLINGS

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/danschaffer/killdarlings02.jpg
a lil teaser

New SHANNA miniseries!!!

NRAMA: Also, what's next for Mitch Breitweiser?
JQ: Sorry, but that's another project that we'll have to announce at
a later date. What I can tell you is that I've seen art and Mitch is
doing some amazing work.
NRAMA: And Khari Evans?
JQ: Khari will be working on a new Shanna the She Devil mini series
written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. And yes, before people
start freaking out, Jimmy and Justin are now DC exclusive, but this
was work they committed to previously so they're finishing off their
commitment.

Interview with ZEU (Cloudburst, Infiniteens)

So what is a Zeu?
Zeus are engines of creation. Plain and simple.
You sit them in front of a drawing board and they materialize the voices in their heads into shapes and forms on a blank sheet of paper. Zeus are very simple, reliable pieces of equipment, low maintenance, easy to operate.
They do have an appetite for world domination but I´ve already said too much :)

TIM SEELEY ON HACK/SLASH: SLICE HARD
As always, the premise remains confounding simple - Cassie Hack was a mousy girl who came a hair's breath away from being a victim of a maniacal slasher, only to come out of her shell, team with the hulking Vlad, and hunt slashers and other crazed killers. Yeah - it's a kind of low-hanging fruit in regards to a plot, and Seeley was the one who saw it on the tree, and grabbed it.

Did we mention there's a movie in the works? Such is the ease with which the concept can be translated across mediums.

GRAY AND PALMIOTTI TALK TERRA

Terra is an enigma for obvious reasons. Every hero in the DCU is in the dark about who she is and why she's doing what she's doing, which is running around the planet saving and helping people. We've been working with Terra for months and months trying to find and develop what's special about her. In the end it was a very simple angle, make Terra a superhero with plenty of emphasis on heroism. Everything she does is selfless and in the service of life. This is a great contrast to Supergirl who is trying to figure out what to do with herself and her powers. They meet when Terra is doing what she was born to do.

Tucci in Belgium!! (F.A.C.T.S.)

http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f205/boomvavavoom/FACTS%202006/

Well...

Up until the day before I wasn't sure I was gonna make it, but I did make it!!

The night before I could hardly sleep so after 4,5 hours I got up, creeped downstairs and got dressed and ready to sneak out, since wife and kids still were in bed.

After driving 2,5 hours I arrived at my freind's place in Roeselare to be handed some comicgoodies (Dazzler #1, Overstreet Price Guide and a Sketchbook) and spent some time with him.

We drove to Gent to arrive at the other side of the park, where parking is still very cheap!! Some French blokes (who drove a friggin' 10 hours!!) came along, because they did not know where the Convention Center was. Funny to notice not all French talk English so my stoopid joke about crossdressing (they were costumeplayers) fell flat on its face :)

When seeing the immense waiting line me and my friend were very happy to have Early Bird Tickets since the line was....huge!! and stayed that way till lunch!!

Hopping cheerfully through the gates of paradise, my friend and I split ways since I was going for the comicartists (Keu Cha cancelled at the very last moment!) and he was heading for some Golden Age comicstuff!!

Arriving at the big hall I saw Sytse Algera (Comicwatch) with Manga-artist Marlon Teunissen and I had a talk with them. I did promise Marlon to be back with Vampirella-reference and I did lateron that morning. And she did create a great Vampirella-sketch in my sketchbook!

Walking through the hall I did notice the booth with the actors but being an Earlybird-guest I could not find the comicguest-department. I did find a nice deal: Adam Warren's "Dirty Pair" miniseries for 4 euro's.

On my second tour of that specific hall I did notice William aka Billy Tucci, setting up shop with his mother Maria. And a couple of days ago we were discussing sizes over the phone, but indeed; Tucci is short! That was my first impression together with that famous smile that cracks open his face time and time again, during the whole day I was with him. The kindness of Tucci and of his mother is amazing. Billy would thank every single fan for whom he drew for and for the detailed sketches he got paid for and had time for all fans -nerds or normals alike- to talk to and even trying to start wars (on football, politics and even Dutch vs Flemish) with :)

After first meeting up with Tucci after 10 minutes I left him to finish building up and I roamed the grounds to search for comics and when returning to Tucci to spend my last 5 hours of the show with, I got some great stuff!!

For a mere 15 euro's I got the House Of M tpb, Avengers Dissassambled tpb, Cavewoman Pangean Sea #9 (gold limited ed.), Cavewoman Jungle Tales #3 (Beatles-variant cover; bought it as a gift for Tucci!!), Authority Scorched Earth, Tarot (Witch of the Black Rose) #39, Shi #10 (had it signed by Tucci), The Dirty Pair "Run from the Future" miniserie (#1-4), Supergirl #5 (Turner/Churchill and Churchill/Turner covers!!), Vampirella 25th Anniversary Special, Witchblade #92 (big 10th ann. edition).

I also saw Justice (Alex Ross) 1-7, Exterminators 1-6, Freshman 1-6, DMZ 1-5 and many more sweet comicdeals but I let them slide...I just came for Tucci and Cha and the other artists :)

I did see a French dealer and was amazed at the prices. 5 E/comic is a lot since I pay around a euro/dollar for a comic! So I let the Vampirella Special (7 euros, but it DID have my letter printed in the letter pages :(  ) lie there....

When I got back to the guest-hall I immediately noticed the increased temperature and the crowd...It was sooo crowded! But that is good. To think off the fact that the organisation added another hall, just to cater for the dealers and the visitors! Mindbobbling!!

The rest of my time at FACTS I spent with Tucci and his mother, sitting eventually behind the table inside the booth!
Talking with Tucci on his art, Quasada, 9/11, Bush, beer, football, wives and hotpants, US conventions, Amanda Conner and him trying to kid around and start a 'war' between Dutch and Belgians, deciding which country had the best gangs/hooligans/beer or culture...it was a blast!! Talking with his mother on William (Billy's oldest son who is exactly like my middle son!!), Brooklyn, Tucci growing up and all the traveladventures they had was just great. Maria Tucci is a great person who is friends with a lot of artists and she even told me to tell Joe Jusko to "be nice to me, says Maria Tucci"...speechless!!

Seeing cosplayers come by and a nice hotpants-booty and two gorgeous goth-girls that "belonged" to someone in the waiting queue...well it sure turned BOTH our heads :D

At the end of my time there, Tucci created some magic in my sketchbook and created a gorgeous Black Cat and he wanted to draw up a Vampirella for me, but due to timeconstraints he just did not have a chance. Hopefully though he will think of me in the weeks to come and send me a Vampirella-drawing overseas, together with some Battlebooks he could not find in his luggage!

I did see the Italian artist (Mauro Padovani) but he was in another hall and I just wanted to stay with Tucci.
I also saw the French artists (Stephane Roux and Guile) create amazing stuff, but I was not willing to go stand in that huge line, while on the other hand being able to talk more to Billy and Maria.

So at the end of the day, with true regret I took off to find my way home with what will always be, a priceless memory!!

Thanks FACTS...for letting me make my contribution (and thus meeting Tucci) and for having such a great show!
I have seen a tip of the iceberg, which you all call the FACTS-organisation and I stand to salute you!
