Mix After Death: The Five Best Biggie Mixtapes ......
Words by Jimmy Valentime
Many have tried to create an audio eulogy for Biggie Smalls and while he does not have a massive catalogue, very few have effectively captured the talent and charisma of this Brooklyn legend. This following list are the mixtapes that have effectively capture the spirit of the only King of New York.
1) The Best of Notorious B.I.G …. DJ Mister Cee
This mixtape is as important to understanding Notorious B.I.G in his prime as Ready to Die. This was the first massively circulated "Best Of "mixtape in New York, something that would eventually become a perquisite for all east coast rappers.
The Notorious B.I.G dominated in New York because he had day time radio and mix shows in a choke hold. This idea that through remixes and appearing on other peoples records you could keep yourself constantly in rotation was started with Big, perfected by Jay-z, and is currently being done by Lil Wayne.
Bonus Fact….
This was not the only Best of Cd, Mister Cee released there are also mixtapes for Redman, Method Man, and Jay-Z.

2) Blue Eyes Meets Bed Stuy…. Jon Moskowitz
This is my favorite mash up album of all time, combining the lyrics of biggie with the production and chorus of Frank Sinatra. The jazz heavy instrumentals of this mix cd fit seamlessly with Big's delivery. Also the record does a very good job of using Big's adlibs and Frank Sinatra talking on records to make it feel very organic.

3) The Notorious B.I.G: Rap Phenomenon …. Dirty Harry & DJ Vlad
This is the most famous Notorious B.I.G Mix Cd, it was released in March of 2003 and was a predecessor to the massive 2 Pac Rap Phenomenon Mixtape. This is a great crash chorus on Biggie smalls, you got most of the guest verse's that he recorded during the course of his career sans other performers, some concert freestyles, and a few choice blends over instrumentals from Get Rich or Die Trying and The Chronic 2000.

4) Gnarls Biggie … Sound Advice,
Danger Mouse is a production monster, the fact no rapper has tried to work with the production genius behind The Gray Album, Demon Dayz, and St. Elsewhere is a shame. While this mix is far from perfect, when it comes together it is amazing.

5) Unbelievable …Mick Boogie
This is a good example of a DJ merging an artist in to his style of tapes. Mick Boogie meshes several styles of DJing in to his cds, taking obscure verse from famous rappers, popular instrumentals, original predication, and snippets from concerts. Mick Boogie creates a very unique experience.
