It's getting to the point that if you're going to vote for John McCain, you probably shouldn't mention that around me. McCain supposedly has done everything he can to distance himself away from his party at face value, while really what he is doing is letting the darkest ideals of the Republican party seep through his campaign.
At this point he's targeting specifically white voters, VP candidate Sarah Palin represents this the best by calling out to "hockey moms" and "Joe six-pack." They appeal to what the Republican party believes that all white voters are, xenophobic, paranoid, and at least somewhat racist. The campaign has repeated referred to the opposing candidate by his entire name as spelled out in the title of this blog. Every time, extra emphasis is placed on Hussein, an extremely common name all around the world for several different cultures, but what does McCain's stereotypical white voter see when confronted with "HUSSEIN"? TERRORIST. Adding to this, McCain's campaign tries to expose some sort of link between Obama and the (Edit:) Islam religion, which is completely false. Also, what does it matter if he's Muslim or Christian or Atheist or anything else? I can't stand the fact that they're referring to this as a bad thing.
These are just a few of the examples, and the problem is that it is working. McCain has started adding the line "Who is the REAL Barack Obama?" to his speeches, and with it come replies from the audience like "A TERRORIST!" These people continue by saying "KILL HIM!" and chanting "OFF WITH HIS HEAD" while McCain tries to distance himself from them at face value. Look up some videos, in every single one of them, he is smiling when this happens. He knows that he is appealing to exactly the people he is looking to find. He can't even look Obama in the eye at debates.
If you're white and voting for McCain, then you are letting the Republican party know that their tactic of fearmongering and promoting racism is working. If you're any other race then I don't even know what the fuck you're thinking. I won't stand for having a president who thinks I'm a racist. I won't stand for a president who would refer to another man as "that one" in front of the whole country. I'm not completely enamored by Obama's plan for this country, but he sure as fuck is the lesser of two evils. I would like a president who represents what America really is, a melting pot of different cultures and ideas, a president who wants to restore the American Dream, a president from the same background as me.
Allowing a man in office who tries to only appease the hockey moms and the Joe Six-Packs of America, who he believes are racist and can be easily dominated by fear into office could be one of the worst things to ever happen to this country. Please learn from the mistake our country has made by electing Bush twice, this rule by fear bullshit has to stop.
