The first of what I hope to be a series of soundtrack mixes. Being October and all, I opted to leave out a stack of my funkier records and instead concentrate on the dark and dissonant sounds of the silver screen. A few classics (Flashing, Baseball Furies Chase), a few weird unknowns (Alien Earth, One Foot In Heaven) an original and an edit help to keep things a bit more interesting than the typical Halloween-time jock jams mix. At least, I think so...

The mix is also available in a physical format, CD to be specific, with really handsome artwork designed by Megan Mitchell. If anyone is interested, please send me a message with your address and I will mail you a copy for FREE!

Big ups to Shawn Ryan for helping me turn a pile of moldy records into a veritable, balanced mix.

Please visit Dollar Bin Jams for more mixes, edits, rips, news, etc. I will be contributing frequently, so keep your ears to the ground...

Enjoy!

"I entered the world of dance music from a strange route. Before I knew Larry Levan, I knew Goblin. Before I knew Moroder, I knew John Carpenter. I would drive around the dark roads of rural Connecticut listening to horror soundtrack mixtapes and spooky cassette recordings I made using a Moog Rogue and a reverb unit. It's appropriate that my first DARKLORD edit be of John Harrison's "The Dead Suite," because it's the first time I really dreamed about a song having a structure of my choosing. "Oh, if only that middle section looped a few times longer. Oh, if only the fat were trimmed a bit", etc. Finally, after a few years of DJing and record digging, I stumbled upon the "Day of the Dead OST," and in good shape! Here was my chance to reassemble the song in the way I had always wanted to hear it; not necessarily for the dancefloor, but dark and driving enough for my own amusement and satisfaction. A little esoteric, but enjoy!"
