Andy and Colin talk about tracking bass on the new Choose to Find song, One Place. The West Fillmore makes it debut, and holds a surprise for us in the end.

Todd and I spent our July 4th editing the piano on Find Yourself Awake and composing string parts for Elsewhere Tenderness. We got done at a reasonable enough time to go watch the fireworks on the Charles River from Peters Hill in the Arnold Arboretum. Hope you had a good 4th too!

G'night!

Hey everyone - the latest update is that we're nearly done sorting through the best of the drum and piano tracks on every song. I'm starting to micro-edit them to iron out any rough spots. The latest video is the most boring of the series to date - it's an inside look at the dull and lonely life of an audio surgeon. But in the end, beauty emerges. Enjoy!

Howdy again. Today was a fun day of editing piano on Peripheral Vision. We had quite a few laughs, and experienced some warm fuzzies over the ease of melding different piano takes seamlessly together. The video from today has some nice in-depth footage of our process and methodology. Hope you like.

Today, Mike came over to my place to record some percussion on Peripheral Vision. I borrowed a hand made Ashika, and Mike brought some goat nails and assorted shaker toys and we spent a couple hours being silly with that stuff. After that, I comped the drums for Elsewhere Tenderness and it sounds great. Progress=satisfaction.

It's all over. We made it out of the studio alive, and with a great foundation for our next album. It was a very eventful week. We learned A LOT about the recording process, and about ourselves and each other. Everyone came together and put their strongest effort into performing incredibly. It was a lot of fun, stress, frustration, triumph, and overall a very emotional experience. There was also an incredible amount of insanity that made the week feel pretty surreal. We'll definitely keep posting as the project develops. We have tons of video and pictures of the sessions too, so you'll be seeing those soon. Wahoooooooooo!

Today was piano overdub day. We set up one of the Yamaha C7s in the huge main room of Wellspring, and recorded the piano parts on Joanna, Choose to Find, and Winter. Now that we're recording with such a nice piano sound, there really is nothing stopping us. =)

We finished the night with Peripheral Vision, which ended up completely kicking my butt. I must have worked at the song for 3 hours straight. By the end, I felt that I still didn't have it down as nicely as I'd like. Kind of a bummer, but I'll get it tomorrow. Colin's sick and yet he was there all day during the recording, cheering me on. This album sure has been a team effort. Lot's of video and pictures to come.

Ok, goodnight.

Today was a very very good day. We finished tracking bass + drums. Not only did we finish.......we absolutely destroyed. Andy laid down some beautiful melodies/bass lines and was the 'one take' wonder of the group....and Mike brought the whole recording session to another level with some of the strongest and most spirited playing I've seen. A 17-hour day (9:45am-2:45am), everyone went completely insane at one point or another. We had many visitors including Sean Flynn, Cynthia and Olivia Ramirez, and Colin's 7-year old guitar student, Ben. Tons O' fun.

Tomorrow we begin piano overdubs. This will take the rest of the two days that we have at Wellspring. Time for me to summon some serious mojo. Time to sleep.

Today we recorded some more takes of Joanna, then Stillness in Motion, Choose to Find, and Winter. We did some bass and piano overdubs later in the evening, which was a lot of fun.

Tomorrow we plan on returning to Find Yourself Awake, Choose to Find, Joanna and Winter. Most importantly, we have 2 songs left that we haven't even started to record: Same Boat, and Peripheral Vision.

Everything is sounding great. John Shipp is doing an amazing job with sounds. He's like a master chef of sound. Sound sound sound.

We have Sean Flynn coming in to do some video taping tomorrow as well. Sean is awesome. Check out the AMAZING documentary that he filmed. It's called Beyond Belief, and it was playing at the MFA a month ago: http://principlepictures.com/beyondbelief/

My neck, shoulders and arms are sore from all of the playing over the last 4 days. Only 3 more to go.

Goodnight.
