Some thoughts about this week's podcast...
You say tomato, I say to-mah-to… You say giblet (hard ‘g’), I say giblet (soft ‘g’) -- let’s call the whole thing off.
And we did call the whole thing off, after I read X’s blackberry seven years ago.
I knew, in an instant, my perception of my marriage was all wrong. How did I get it so WRONG?
What comes first? Perception or reality? Which begets which? And what wins in the end? Is there an end?
Boy, this can get tiring.
So I can sleep at night, I work on my perception. The new bra, the new face cream, Target’s (soft ‘g’) groovy magnifying reading glasses, now a necessity to read the New York Times, unwittingly mask the dark circles under my eyes. A solution for my vanity and vision. A two for one deal! I look better. I feel better. I see.
For a moment.
Then I realize I’m the generic “blonde divorced woman” dropping off the kids at school, interchangeable with one or more of the others in the blur of the schoolyard.
Does the blur hurt? Or does it feel comfortable. I’m not alone.
My kids are still young enough to perceive me as great. And beautiful. But I’m still relegated to the servants’ quarters in their crayoned dream house. Everyone knows this is motherhood's reality, not perception.
Do other peoples’ perceptions shortchange me, make me less than I want to be or thought I was? Does it challenge me to look better, act differently and therefore become someone I am not?
We are constantly updating ourselves, and constantly revised and altered by others.
But in the end, or even in the middle, there is often one big bowl of chicken soup for the soul. Also, in this edition of DivorcingDaze, singer-songwriter Liz Fodor's Never Say Goodbye in an Email

We were hoping the shameless headline would heat up your Moo Goo Gai Pan, because once you walk in the door at DivorcingDaze this week, you won't be hungry for hours later. The Lauries serve up a spicy menu of saucy selections this week. Laurie tangles with the cops, and Laurie 2 suggests that Letterman's not the only one cooking with a colleague. How about you? Ever slept with a co-worker?

The Memorial Day edition of DivorcingDaze is on the grill. From a listener: Boy and girl meet girl. Girl likes girl. Boy, not so much. And Laurie1 returns to the lecherous hairdresser, this time, with Laurie2. Wondering how that worked out? Also, wedding crashers and weddings crashed. How your post-divorce relationships affect your kids.

Laurie 2 is in kind of a bad mood. Which is weird, since Laurie 1 is the one who DID NOT get flowers and who has been having computer problems. But they are friends, so the podcast must continue. Laurie1 is the forgiving type. And she's the editor. They talk about racy emails, dog-walkers, city life. And listener mail.

DivorcingDaze is back. And everything is getting green again. Green may be the theme.  Laurie2 suggests we check out FreeCycle, Laurie1 has a green-screen plan for her circa 1995 TV, and if you think the grass is greener, look again. And listener mail from Singapore. Today's important keywords: condoms, chocolate, recycling, TV, Singapore, gossip, games, happiness, married, divorce.

What to do when the best haircut you’ve had in years comes with a price higher than advertised: the hairdresser made a pass.  An aggressive pass.  In New York City,  when you find a great restaurant, a great apartment, or a great haircut at a great price, it’s not so easy to give it up.  Sexless marriage, sex with other women, wedding day doubts and cheaters' confessions are also discussed, dissected and debated in this, the latest edition of DivorcingDaze.

Can you be happy in a marriage or relationship when your partner is not? What is that? Denial? Wishful thinking?

Laurie and Laurie talk about their relationships, past and present, through the prism of time and a lot of laughter, of course, in this edition of DivorcingDaze. And what about the cheaters? Where are you ? Who are you? The Lauries want to hear from you. Why did you leave? Sometimes it takes more courage to leave than it does to stay. Write to us and have your say.

Just one money-saving tip in our own bailout package podcast.
Want more? Borrow other people's stuff, charge your phone at the
office, make playdates in place of babysitters. And it occurs to us
that if men used tampons, the price would be much lower.

Has anyone out there used Target brand?

As Valentines Day approaches, we are reminded of those three little words we keep hearing: In this economy...

Go ahead, count how many times you hear that in a day. Anyway, we still talk about the things you want to hear: underwear, fat dolls, kids named after dictators, and other important stuff.

In this economy, you need us more.
