A small piece about the Irish Rockers website ( IrishRockers.com) was published in the 8th May 2008 Edition of Ireland's biggest selling music magazine, Hot Press. The article states: "Started in 2003 by Irish web designer and music fan, Aidan Curran, as a database of the most notable Irish bands, both past and present, the site aims to be the 'ultimate online resource and referance' for Irish bands and artists. It also has some interesting promotional opportunities for upcoming artists, including a gig guide, artist news section and a forum. If you are an artist that is not included in their list, you may want to request to be included."

The previous Horslips video that I had on this page was removed from YouTube by TG4 (they went on a campaign to remove all videos recorded from their station) so I've replaced it with a blast from the past, Horslips, decked out in their finest gear, performing their classic 'Dearg Doom' back in their 70's heyday.
I've also added a video of Mama's Boys performing 'Runaway Dreams'. Mama's Boys actually got their inspiration from Horslips but followed a more straight forward (no looking back) rock path rather than veering down the celtic rock rock path beaten by Horslips even though they were skilled traditional musicians themselves. This track, 'Ruanway Dreams', is one of their only tracks that gets close to dabbling with celtic rock as Pat breaks out the fiddle at the end. It's a great track, one of the Boy's best and the fiddle solo finale fits it like a glove.

The keen-eyed regular visitor to IrishRockers.com may notice that the site has undergone a minor cosmetic face-lift. Actually the most significant work has been done below the surface to move the site towards more standards complient XHTML code as well as tweaks to the database code to improve efficiency of database interactions.

For the past number of weeks the theme song has been the classic 'We don't need nobody else' by Whipping Boy and I think I'll keep that one around for awhile because it is a summation of all that is good about Irish Rock music - definately originally Irish down to the lyric content (... They built portholes for Bono, so he could gaze Out across the bay and sing about mountains...) and the Dublin accented delivery and the brilliant crushing chorus. 'We don't need nobody else' is a true Irish classic from a band that deserved to make it bigger.

After visiting the annual Rory Gallagher tribute festival in Ballyshannon I've decided it's high time for IrishRockers.com to shine the spotlight on one of Ireland's greatest rock heroes, Rory Gallagher. There were a host of great musicians in Ballyshannon blasting out Rory's tunes. It's amazing to see the depth of devotion that exists for this man, and not just among the older crowd but the young ones as well. Rory's music has stood the test of time and is still as fresh and relevant today as it ever was. One thing that makes Rory special is that not only was he a guitar genius but a brilliant songwriter as well and has left behind a catalog of great rock songs. Check out the Rory Gallagher page on IrishRockers.com.
