Hello Honky Tonk Nation,
Needless to say, it's been a hell of a ride this year. A lot of miles on the van and the band and a lot of money spent. That's not to say that what we do for a living is a bad thing. On the contrary. Meeting fans, industry folks, radio personalities and having the opportunity to play to the masses is a blessing in itself, as well as an ongoing education from the school of hard knocks. I wouldn't have it any other way! For a songwriter like myself, this is where the inspiration comes from. Greasy spoons, cheap hotels and all of the characters that fill these places at two in the morning. These things can't just be dreamed up, you have to live them. It's like I tell my friends, when we're old and gray, sitting on the porch of the rest home, what do you have left? MEMORIES and the songs you recorded about them! Yes, some days you wonder, where's the money comin' from to keep it all afloat, how long is it going to take to make it in a business that's stacked against you? But most days you stay determined and focused, keeping your eye on the prize and knowing in your heart of hearts, that what you're doing is the right thing and for all the right reasons. That's why we do what we do, never giving in to what looks like a goal we just can't seem to reach. The truth is, You Can Reach You're Goals. I've been in this business more years than I care to talk about, and at times it has been hard, BUT IT STILL BEATS THE HELL OUT OF A DAY JOB! Just when it gets you down, the phone rings or an E-mail comes in with some show or opportunity that you didn't expect, and you're right back in the game and on top of the world. The key is to surround yourself with good people, and don't burn your bridges. You will pass the same people on the way down, that you passed on the way up. These are the folks that have made you who you are, opened the doors and made the contacts that you could have never made on your own. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to drive thru food, sleeping in the van, staying with friends and driving 100,000 miles this year. I really wouldn't have it any other way. Keep the faith!
