Hello everyone

Are you all set for Christmas?

Have you been good?

Well we must have been good lately as Gill Mills has chosen our song 'You Make My Heart' to be included on her latest Best of MySpace podcast. Pretty good eh!?

This is what they had to say about us;

'Sounding a bit like Bis jamming with New Order, with a kinda Dubstar feeling vocal, this tune bounces along.'

Check out what other bands are included and listen/subscribe at http://www.bestofmyspace.co.uk/

OH - and if you could vote for us that would be fantastic as we might get played on NME Radio.

We're playing in Edinburgh in January and we'll be heading to London and organising a Glasgow gig in February when we'll be launching our DEBUT EP on ltd edition cd and digital download.

hey all

unfortunately we have had some sad news in the retro champs camp today and as a result we are having to pull out of our three gigs this weekend at sneaky petes, 13th note and the greenside.

our thoughts go out to harry and his family.

we will be looking to schedule gigs in february when we will have an EP coming out.

sneaky petes is cancelled.

however,

ace city racers will be playing their debut gig with the excellent nevada base at 13th note on saturday. we're also hoping vendor defender will play. so there is still a great 3 band bill.

we hope to travel to fife in the new year, but sonny marvello will be playing so get along to see them.

we'll be in touch once we have some good news to share with you.

lots of love

Hey gang! Look! We have two, TWO, new additions to the myspace player type thing. First up is our good friend Mr Issac Martin's remix of Speak To Me, its got plinky plonky bits in it, innit. Secondly, Told Ya, which we've been playing live now for a few weeks, its well loud and epic and stuff.

That was exciting, I'm off for a lie down, enjoy!

Hello champs and champettes

It's dark in Glasgow and it's been raining, but there is always sunshine in our hearts....

And there is thought of playing upbeat electro-pop 3 nights running at the end of November with some bands that are friends of ours and bands that we love and hope will become friends of ours.

We hope to see you at one of the following gigs;

EDINBURGH

GLASGOW

OR FIFE (although we haven't designed a poster for that yet)

Thanks for all your support through 2009 - we've had a great year and look forward to celebrating with you at Sneaky Petes, 13th Note or The Greenside.

Lots of love and lemonade always

Hello little championettes!

I am currently listening to a fantastic little girl group from the late fifties called The Bobbettes. They did a fabulous song called I Shot Mr Lee which is worth trying to find.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cFIxUl7NBM

This is a clip of them singing it live nowadays. Back then they were only fifteen when they originally recorded it! Very talented ladies!

Anyway, I have stryed from the topic...

Tonight FUTURISTIC CHAMPIONS WILL BE PLAYED ON RADIO 1!!!!

Yes that's right, the ever so dashing Mr Galloway shall be spinning 'You Make My Heart' and at a reasonable time too!

In other news... we are playing a 'secret' gig supporting the cinnamons at Nice and Sleazy's tomorrow night.

PLEASE COME AND CHECK US OUT ON SATURDAY AT CAPTAINS REST!!!

Now go and look up the Bobbettes!

Lots of Luv and Lemonade,

Casio Carla

Hey all

As the title suggests we are taking our search for pop perfection to King Tuts Wah Wah Hut on Friday 18th September.

We are supporting ex-Ash chanteuse Charlotte Hatherley. Check out her own delicious pop tunes at http://www.myspace.com/charlottehatherleyofficial

And we have tickets to sell at five pounds a pop - a saving of £2 from the door price.

Send us a myspace message or email retrochamps@hotmail.com if you would one, two or more.

In other news we have a mini-tour sorted for the end of November taking in Sneaky Petes, the 13th Note and a brand new venue that we have never played before The Greenside in Fife, it looks great and they are very enthusiastic.

Come down to Tuts for lots of sugary pop goodness.

Lots of love and lemonade

Quite a long blog title, but we are pretty busy just now, so here is the news.

Harry has produced a brilliant thumping new mix of 'You Make My Heart'. We love it and hope you do to. The initial demo received almost 6,000 plays on myspace. We hope the numbers for this new version will shoot up.

And new song 'Let's Make Out' is also up. It's also featured on the lovely Jim Gellatly's latest podcast along with loads of other great music. Details on how to download it are below and on our comments board.

And last but not least, we play with Unicorn Kid and Young Fathers at the good old Cabaret Voltaire on Saturday 15th August. We have limited tickets for a fiver so come on down.....the price is right!

Lots of love and lemonade

Hello everybody!

We finally got around to recording a dirty princess 'lectro mix of Let's Make Out featuring Fergus Weir (or as I like to refer to him... Fergalicious!).

Anyway, hope you enjoy it. It's become a bit of a live favourite.

In exciting news watch this space for two brand-new-never-been-played-before songs!

I'm excited! I hope you are too.

We do like fizzy cola bottles! Check this nice article on us.

During music festival season there will likely be lots of ‘cool’ new indie bands thrust upon us. But Anna Docherty meets a bright young band that is unashamedly pop.Small seeds, acorns and ugly ducklings - our favourite magical tales involve unlikely things that turn into something wondrous. The Futuristic Retro Champions are a bit like the musical equivalent, in that they started out as a little art college project about four years ago and have since paint-by-numbered their way to something brilliant, colourful and charmingly wonky. It’s been almost as gradual as the ‘tiny acorn’ tale - just with added pop, fizz and sparkle. And yeah, it’s pop - but who said pop can’t have integrity? Producer and guitarist Harry Weeks believes, ‘the only way to make exciting music is to have something creative to write about. All of us work with one or more of video, visuals, performance, dance or writing outside the band - so being able to bring all that together makes it more interesting.’And you can pick up on this patchwork of creative forces in the music; their sound is rich, breezy and unconstrained. Cecilia Stamp, the band’s bass player, notes that: ‘we all have our own interests and I think these show in the music.’Their sound flits from hyperactive electro tales of ‘manbags’ to tender little ditties, like ‘Isn’t It Lovely’ - which sounds like love set to music and carries the little heartbreaker of a line ‘When you’ve left my side, I’m left to wonder... am I happy inside’. Lead singer Sita Pieraccini delivers each note in a punchy Scottish brogue, all husky and defiant. And perhaps the reason it all works so well is because the band have never tried to muscle their way into the music game. ‘We do what we do and don’t try to dress it up or turn it into something else,’ explains keyboard player Carla Easton, adding that: ‘being in a band is exciting and I would hate to feel like it was a full time job, because then it wouldn’t be as special.’In other words, it’s all still a bit of a novelty for them and consequently their music sounds much more alive. They sweat pure pop and their bodies probably run on fizzy cola bottles. And, most importantly, they are intent on spreading the pop gospel. ‘We believe that pop is not a dirty word,’ says Easton. Music to our ears.
