I just ate a bag of Fritos and drank a can of Coke. It was a highly dissatisfying snack. I wanted something salty, and the recent Father's Day reminded me that Fritos were my dad's favorite snack. So I bought a bag. And the Coke? Self-explanatory. In any event, the Fritos weren't as salty as I was hoping and actually are quite dry. Then the Coke wasn't that cold. I emailed the office services team where I work because there's little worse than lukewarm Coke. All in all, not the snack I was needing. Harrumph. You know you're grumpy when...

My tennis shoes are floating in a bathtub of water. What's up with that?

Not much better than hooking up some monster cardboard speakers to a portable tape player and listening to a Trylons practice tape while still at work!

Current mood:  annoyed
You know how it feel when you've been planning for something, preparing for something, equal parts yearning for and dreading something -- something that could make a lot of other things fall into place -- and then that something is delayed? That's how I feel tonight. The something will eventually happen, but it not happening when it was supposed to sure knocked me for a loop.

Current mood:  calm
The office is dead silent at 4:24, as most people took advantage of the early holiday closing at 2 p.m. I'm puttering around, tidying up my desk and doing some long-neglected tasks. No plans tonight, but scads going on Saturday and Sunday. Not sure if I'll go to church on Sunday -- it's been ages. How do you recognize Purim or Easter?

Last night after work, I met up with Deb at the East Broadway stop on the F line. Not far from a fatal mugging-shooting, and a housing project, Chinatown subtly edges toward the foot of the Manhattan Bridge. We walked along and around East Broadway, exploring the Chinese shops, groceries, and restaurants, and I have to say, I think I like East Broadway more than the Chinatown proper closer to Canal Street. Some highlights: The Hong Kong Grocery (I think that's what it's called.) is an amazing food museum, with loads of cheap produce, fresh fish, and Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese snacks and specialty foods. I picked up a rice cake for Chinese New Year next week, some muscat gummies, and some Chinese toothpaste. I'll have to go back; it's a sensory overload. We also stepped into a small mall of sorts. Think the Porter Exchange, but with more going on: pajamas, shoes, electronics, video games, a noodle shop, and so on. They were just closing up -- it was about 8 -- so we even missed most of the action. Before ending our amble, we popped into Yummy Noodle on Bowery for a quick bite. Wonderful. Another highlight: The First Chinese Presbyterian Church was also once a church catering primarily to sailors. The church -- and its organ -- have been put on the historic register.

I was, am, and forever shall be in a band called the Anchormen. And Chris, our mysterious bassist, just made a cell phone ringtone for our song "Spy Pond." It's like Metroid on an IV drip. Best thing ever.

I just got back from a doctor's appointment. I've lived in New York for just more than a year now, and I just recently chose a new primary care physician. Last week, I went in for a physical and blood test, and today I got the results. It seemed a little steep to pay a $30 copay for a 45-minute wait and a 15-minute report back, but the results are good. Low cholestrol. Good blood pressure. Nothing of immediate concern, although I did get a prescription to combat some icky toenail fungus. I also learned that I may have slight hypothyroidism. It's not that low, so I'll wait for another blood test before we think about that further. I don't like the idea of taking medication for the rest of my life, especially because I hardly take vitamins, much less medication like aspirin.

On Sally's urging, I'm checking out MySpace. I wish that there were a way to combine all of my online profiles, blogs, etc. Like, it'd be great to be able to populate this blog by pulling in the RSS feed from my Media Diet instead of being dead as a doornail hereabouts. What do you dig about MySpace? How is it different from and better than Friendster, Orkut, blogging, LiveJournal, and blardy blardy blar what else?
