Damn...
Just got power and internet back after 7 days without and I'm feeling pretty lucky. Looks like half the city is still without - most of my neighborhood included.

We had it really easy. Our neighbors are all awesome and we had a pretty good time, all things considered...plenty of alcohol helped. Nothing like hot vodka and pineapple juice to make a blackout tolerable. All in all, it turned out to be a really good chance to get to know our neighbors and spend some time away from computers, tv, work, etc.

Was getting kinda antsy about making music but fortunately most of my stuff is battery powered so I could still jam out. Doc and I recorded a couple of Ike Jams on a little pocket recorder..will probably post on the t.wai site soon.

Hope everyone else is doing OK - please let me know if I can help you with anything.

What a great night. Great crowd, great acts, great vibes.

Thanks to J. Thelonius, Thomas Ayresol, and AWAKE for turning in such killer sets.

If any of you haven't checked these guys out yet, now is definitely the time. Here are some links>>

J. Thelonius - I really enjoyed Jesse's set. Nice textures and beats to keep your head bobbing. This was his first show so I'm really interested to see where he goes next.

Thomas Ayresol - Well, what can I say about Thomas? I always enjoy playing with him and was really feeling the new tunes. A helluva nice guy and good friend as well as an always interesting artist. Great tastes that taste great together.

AWAKE - These guys are fucking amazing. I've had the privilege of playing with them before but this was my inauguration to the acoustic AWAKE and damn, it was TASTY. Do yourself a favor and see these guys as much as possible.

t.WaI was filmed on Friday for inclusion in a documentary about experimental music so we're really excited about that. Thanks to Simon and Jonathan for thinking of us!!

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the night a success...we've played to many empty rooms so it sure is nice to have a receptive audience. You are much appreciated..

My father-in-law, Don Moon, passed away yesterday afternoon after a brave battle with cancer. He was a great man and I will miss him forever.

Don Moon loved ice cream. He loved chocolate gravy and biscuits. He loved KFC original chicken and McDonald's french fries. He loved westerns and Clint Eastwood. Walking Tall (the original please). Booty Call. He loved Elvis Presley and oldies music.

Most of all, Don Moon loved his family. His was an unwavering love that didn't have time for resentment or grudges. Don was a man of character and I hope that I can be a fraction of the man that he was. I will always love and remember him for the happiness that he gave to others, whether through a well told joke or a funny story or just by putting his arm around you and telling you that he was there for you.

He touched more people than he probably ever knew through just being himself.

Rest easy my good man. I love you more than you know.

I think I'm ready to move on to a new project. I've stumbled and stuttered around with trying to finish Candy Coated Conspiracy for too long now. Its going up on the net in the next few days as an EP - free download - 6 tracks. Will post more info soon.

I need to move on...get a fresh start. So I'm getting rid of the computer and making my next CD entirely with my circuit bent and/or modified toys, keyboards, etc. No synths (unless you count the SK-1), no beats, no DSP.

I'm posting the first track that I've completed using this method. Other than a little compression on the master track, "Alive on the Inside" was made entirely on a bent Musini and a bent SK-1.

As many of you who know me personally are already aware, we're in the process of losing a close family member to cancer right now. Lots of well meaning people send messages - but so many center around Christianity and God.

"God won't give you any more than you can handle." - What the fuck does that even mean? If I never have to read that insensitive yet supposedly thoughtful line again it will be too soon. Even though I realize that people are trying to be nice when they say this, please tell me how this is supposed to help.

I'm not religious at all. I have no use for organized religions and believe that they are the cause of the majority of suffering in the world. I think religion divides families through intolerance. I just can't buy into the idea that one group of people has all the answers while the rest of us are doomed.

I feel infinitely more spiritual and fulfilled when listening to music than at church. The biggest help to me through this process has been music. An album like The Soft Bulletin touches me deep in places that have never been reached in a church service. I guess it feels more real...more true, more moving, more emotional, more PURE. Not filtered through generations of interpretation.

With all that being said, I was reading some liner notes that Wayne Coyne wrote about religion and it hit me like a fucking brick.

I had wholly rejected the idea of religion when I was seventeen. But, in hindsight, I didn't really know what it was I had so easily dismissed. It was around this time of 1988-1989, I was 27 or 28 when I began to understand and appreciate how useful and genius this invention of God, Jesus, and any form of sacred submission truly was. The humbling capacity of worshipping something more powerful than yourself and the unquestioning moral structure it rewarded you with were both aspects of religion I once pointed out a signs of weakness -I now looked at as simple human needs. The desire to believe is so instinctual and so pleasurable that for most people it's never challened. But I had challenged it and decided to side with science. It's easy for a seventeen year old - much toughter for a twenty-seven year old..The temptation to retreat into a world of angels and demons intensifies as one experiences the meaninglessness and evil of reality. The more one understands reality the more one is consoled by this ingenious fabrication...However, I could not, once knowing the truth, go back to, what would have been, a more comforting lie....So as I walked into the increasingly bleak, godless horizon - a tinge of regret would be attached to my resolve...I was resigned to believe in only "the real"...But I longed to be immersed in the "Guiding Light"....

Wow...its amazing when you read something that clobbers you over the head with feelings you didn't even realize you had. Thanks for listening to me...

We've been really busy with stuff lately...lots of new developments over the past few months.

We've hooked up with Dave, one of Doc's old buddies to sing and deliver words of wisdom and he is kicking some serious ass..we've got some new songs featuring him up on the page so check them out if you get a chance.

We had a kickass show at Rudyard's last Saturday with the Jonx and 500 Megatons of Boogie - our first with Dave - good crowd, great sound, and fucking amazing bands to play with...what more can you ask for?

Next up we are heading into the studio to make an "official" album...excited to see what we can put together working in a different format than our usual "plug in, press record and GO" method.

Our next scheduled show is at Last Concert Cafe on 9/13 with the Defenestration Unit & Consider the Source (from NYC) - should be a really amazing show so please come out if you can. The last time I played at LCC my audience was a bunch of hippies who didn't think to much of my stuff so any friendly faces will be MUCH appreciated!
