my friend tom greenleaf (may he rest in peace) made some
bumper stickers back in 83 that featured a cop car chasing some dead heads in a hertz rental car

the heads were all hanging out of the car
which was sporting a few stickers itself and the hertz tags and the black and white in pursuit had the siren going and the cops didnt look to happy chasing themsleves down a few deadheads..the TEXT on the sticker was in big black letters

"WHEREVER WE GO THE PEOPLE ALL COMPLAIN"

One morning after the 3rd HULT show in1983, we were in the lobby of the hilton next door to the hult with about 15 people ,checking out of the hotel and having bloody mary's,and chilling WITH PHIL LESH. PHIL was sitting in the lobby waiting on his ride or whatever, and this one HEAD had a box of bumper stickers he was letting PHIL look thru.

There must have been 50 or more stickers in there.

So i ran and got Tom and told him to bring his stickers to the lobby and give one to PHIL ...so phil is handed the a formentioned sticker and sez with the BIG PHIL LAUGH "HAW HAW i like this one but i wouldnt put it on my car ! "

When phil gets up to leave the HEAD offers phil his choice of stickers,
phil sez "no thanx man but i will keep THIS ONE!."

PHIL dug toms sticker WHEREVER WE GO THE PEOPLE ALL
COMPLAIN and he kept it

ANYWAY 2 days later in park city,UTAH we are walking
towards the gate when, from behind us on the road, CHEERS start to be heard rising from the DEAD HEAD foot traffic as LO and BEHOLD >>>PHIL is cruising up the drive towards the show,driving a dark blue rental from HERTZ accopanied by a woman in the passenger seat.>>>>

as PHIL cruises by us we see that THE MAN has put tom Greenleaf's sticker on the rear of his rental CAR

ALRIGHT PHIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was PHILS favorite sticker
and we just freaked YAHOO!!!!! screaming and waving at phils car and phil gives a nice little wave back man what a laugh true story

here is a little story.....

Well we stayed in the same hotels as the band during the summer of 82 thanks to boulder Dave greenberg who would let me and my gurl sleep on his floor...............one of the most generous heads ya could know for the whole tour

well after the alpine valley shows of 08-07 and 08-08-82 we stayed at the interlaken lodges for the night and during some of the day off

a huge resort with a hotel and condos for rent on the lake/golf course

so of course while the dead are staying in the hotel part.... dave has secured a whole condo for the regular crew and the regular stragglers...what a scene ( another story entirely )

We did see the boys all on and off during the tour and we always said "HI BRENT" to bobby when we saw him just to help him keep his ego in check hee hee


We were late leaving the condo that day for the FAMOUSIOWA CITY FIELD HOUSE SHOW on 08-10-82 ,due to something about a few cops , a lot of hippies and a kitchen table covered in marijuana

anyways better late than never we hit the road finally for iowa city ,unscathed

haveing no idea where Dave was or where the band was staying for this LAST SHOW OF THE tour due our
tardy and rather hectic departure pretty frazzled from the road and a good long days drive
from alpine

we hit iowa city and pull into the first hotel we see ,the KNIGHTS INN

i leave my 3 other travelers in my yellow 73 VW squareback, covered at this point on the last legs of 2 tours ,both spring and summer,with about 100 stickers up and down the sides and bumpers(remember?) and head on into the bar at the knights inn to scoff some to go coffee and see about directions towards the campus

for a little impromptu parking lot crash scene and we can wake up at the show tomoorow in the sun and unshowered YUM YUM or so we had voted in the car

inside now the bar is yer basic iowa hotel bar straight out of something between twin peaks and blue velvet complete with soft red lighting and sparkles and a real cheesy piano player on the lit stage playing along for his partner a blonde with the sparkely dress and really heavy on the blue eye shadow and dark roots and she was probably a real looker a decade or so ago and if my memory serves they were finishing up with their rendition of FEELINGS and getting ready to segue into MACK THE KNIFE i mean this was as good as bill murrays lounge act during the GOOD OLD DAYS of saturday night live i am definatley living fear and loathing in IOWA here~~~~~~~when i hear some guy laughing at the other end of the bar i mean laughing HAWWW HAAW HAAAWWWW you know the one i mean yup PHIL FREAKIN LESH
is enjoying a heiniken and the lounge act !!! i am like frozen hey phil ! great tune huh!!!????? feelings whooa whoaa feelings feeelings@@@@....... suddenly i am forgetting about the iowa state u campus and am highstepping to the front desk uhmmmm do you have a dave greenberg here????bam !!!! we found it !!!! out to the car and a few profesional floor crashing minutes later packs and all scurry past the front desk to the welcome confines of the floor of a hotel room in the KNIGHTS INN sharing a little of Mr Fatty with dan healy and harry popick and dave and

what a fucking scream.
