How'd it ever get to be halfway to 2010?!  Anyway, just posted a sweet little song.  I went off into the hills and sat by a creek in a place called Rattlesnake Canyon and wrote this one.  Turns out it was a week before the whole place burned up in the recent big Santa Barbara wildfire.

Two things worth noticing: it's the first appearance of a banjo in my music (about damn time, have always loved the banjo) and definitely one of the tastiest guitar solos I ever recorded.

Much love, J

p.s.  finest bizarre phrase recently stumbled upon: "Prehistoric pregnant turtle"!

Well hello stranger. I know I know, what the hell have I been up to? Took a break. Just let the winds blow, see what or if inspires. Well, somethin did, and I wrote a new song, called Indigo. I will post it real soon, the first of 2009 in plan. Until then, happy holidays and have a great end of 2008. Remember, it won't ever happen again.
Love, J

howdy friend,
well i finally finished mixing the song 'Lipstick and Coffee'. think i spent more time mixing this one than any other song i've ever recorded in my life (literally took me over 2 months on and off after i put it off for a year (that's a whole other story)).

i want to thank a few friends that helped... glen phillips for loaning me his magic microphone, robinson eikenberry for the lovely snare drum, and chris thomas for playing the sweet brush snare part and making good suggestions on various stages of the mix.

most importantly, i'm giving this song away to say thank you to all the good people that listen to and support me.  i want everyone to have it, free! i only ask one thing of you: if you like it, share it with as many of your friends as possible (and ask them to share it with as many of their friends as they can). i want to see where in the world this little song ends up.

they say if you love something, set it free. well, it's free.
enjoy, and happy summer.

j

where have i been...? so unmyspaced for months. went to the redwood national park recently, the big ones up north almost at the oregon state line. trees so big and wise i can't even describe the feeling, but it's one of the best places i've ever found.

i'm workin on something, it's probably my most favorite song i've ever done. recorded a demo of it a year ago or so and planned to rerecord it more professional-like, but the demo just captured the feeling.. so i've been working on it adding to it trying to get the right mix for about 2 months on and off now. it's a tricky little animal, but i promise i'm almost done and can't wait to share it with you.

Happy new year friend. Finished off the year with a pow out in Moab Utah. Went crazy with my brother's camera and put a few pictures up here. I get all peaceful when I look at em, hope it works for you.
Things are good here, been working on my studio a bit, doing some long awaited upgrades, making music for a documentary, trying to start the new year out with a cleaner room. Guess I should put some new songs up soon, have been unmyspaced for awhile... soon...

As for 2008, have a fine year with many unexpected blessings, amazing coincidences, powerful dreams, good friends, and unconditional love.

just got back from seeing into the wild for the second time.  go see this movie if you haven't already, best film i've seen all year.  it's so rare these days that a movie really respects its audience and dares to use film as an art form instead of a financial institution, when a movie actually moves you or gives you the chance to look at life in a different way, ya know?

hello.
went on a cruise last week, was quite fun.
upon returning found this scribbled in my notebook...

the pirate scientist
and the naseous psychic
the lounge acts and gamblers
fabulous vistas of fading ports
of giant cities swallowed by
the wake of our massive ship
anything anytime
like rv camping on the sea
dismantling "the rose" at kereoke night
in and out of 3 ports many worlds
san diego pirate ship running through a russian sub
yelling "dosvidanya" and "slava bogu sevonya"
sleepy catalina and the screeching golf cart hillsides
we didn't make it far enough
to see the buffalo, cut off at the pass
saw one fish tho
ensenada and the shopping explosion
ponchos, blankets, pharmacies, cigars,
hats, silver, whores, flute music
what you want man?
horse badorties and sleeping on the sea
ahh the pirates life for me...
