Hello friends!

It's Sarah The Intern, once again.  We just got back from Austin.  It was a pretty interesting trip.  Well, Davis's methane gases were the most interesting part.  But I'll get back to that later.

I should have ridden my bike to Frank's house to meet up and leave, but I was wearing a brand new shirt and I didn't want it to get too sweaty.  So I just got Frank to pick me up.  Blah blah blah.

On the ride to Austin we made our regular stop at Bucees.  I got a Coke and Reeses Pieces of course.  Jessica had to make a tough decision between Wasabi peanuts or a "Sweet Energy" trail mix.  I think she should've gotten the peanuts, but she made the horrible decision of buying the sweet energy.  She ended up eating too much sweet energy and didn't feel too well for the rest of the ride and some of the night.

We made it to Momo's safely and loaded shit in and set up and whatnot.  The crowd was practically non-existent.   But apparently a bunch of people went to Dallas for the UT vs. OU game (laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame).  Oh and also Sonic Youth was playing that night, so that didn't help.

The opening bands were pretty good.  One of the bands had a saxophone and it brought back my love for the sax. Mmmmmmm.

A lot of our friends met up with us and watched the show.  Davis's brothers and dad showed up.  It was nice meeting them.  It was Adam's birthday so that made it even more fun.  Davis's dad has a kickass style.  He has a Fu-Manchu and a "pomp".  Very rockabilly.

Donna, Jessica's old roommate showed up as well.  It's always nice to chit chat and joke with her.  She's super funny, but, of COURSE, not as funny as me.  But close…Skyblue72 did a super fantastic set.  Jessica was hitting those damn drums so hard that the floor tom tom tipped over, the snare nearly fell, and one of the cymbals got crooked.

The show was awesome.  Definitely in the "top 5".  Or "top 8".  Haha.

After the show and packing up etc, Frank, Davis and I went to Adam's house to continue the fun, and Jessica went to Donna's house.  There wasn't any wrestling or boxing this time, but worse.  Me in a debate with some dude, Lance actually.  We were arguing about Feminism and it got really heated, but decided to agree to disagree.  And made up.

I had some fabulous Canadian whiskey.  Mist I think it's called.  It was very smooth.  Even though I like that burning feeling as the whiskey goes down my throat.  Ohh yesss.

Eventually we got to bed, around 7 am.  Davis fell asleep in the backyard on a lawn chair, Frank got to sleep on a real bed, I think, and I got to share a sofa with Lance.  Ha.  He passed out sitting so I just put my feet on his lap to sleep.  Then he eventually woke up and wanted to lie down too, so he rested his head on my ass, with a pillow though.  The last time someone slept on my ass was…. Well.  A bad experience, including smelly blankets with pubes on them.  And a shitty omelet…  I kinda felt bad for him though, because I don't have much of an ass so it couldn't have been that comfortable, so that's probably why he used a pillow.

Frank, Davis, and I had breakfast at La Madeleine.  I had a fabulous crepe.  Frank wasn't happy with his roast beef sandwich because it was too salty.  He complained about it so they gave him a turkey sandwich for free, but it was also too salty.  So Davis and I ate it.  Damn, this must be boring to read.  Maybe I should just make shit up and pretend it happened.  "It might be wrong, but it's right.  That's my motto" as Edie (from AbFab) would say.  I love that show.  Patsy is my idol.

Anywho, after that mediocre meal we met up with Jessica and Donna to pick up JZ.  They were shopping and taking a bit long and we really needed to go.  So Frank sent me into the clothing store to expedite the process.  When I walked in-  it was AMAZING.  And at that first second, I could totally understand why she was spending so much time in there.  They had amazing shoes, boots, jewelry, belts, and dresses!  Oh the dresses were fabulous!  JZ bought two really pretty ones.  I found a dress I liked and was a little tempted to try it on, but to noooo, we had to go.  Next time, next time.

Now I'm not sure what Davis ate to make him so incredibly gassy, but it must've been something bad.  He farted at least 4 times on the ride back, and keep in mind, this van is SPACIOUS, but he was still able to fill the van with the awful, AWFUL stench.  It was horrible.  Now, I've had plenty of experience with farts, and other things related.  Granted, I love to fart, and I love talking about farts, and drawing them, BUT these farts were lethal.  Definitely lethal.  We had to open the windows every time to air it out.  Some of the times I had to lean out the passenger window to breathe fresh air.  Davis claims that when leaving Austin, he gets gassy.  I think that's bullshit.  I think he's just dangerously gassy.  It was horrible!  Horrible I tell you!  I fart all the time, and I'm around farts a lot, but I have never, NEVER smelled a fart THAT BAD.  Ugh, just brutal.

Yep.  Brutal.

Alright, I think that's pretty much it.  If not, I'm sure Davis, or Jess, or Frank will mention something.

Now I have to get ready for the skyblue72/Patrice Pike show at RUDYARDS tonight.  Kick ass!!!!!

skyblue72

p.s. I'm thinking about being a dead (and gory) celebrity or historical figure for Halloween, any ideas???  Oh, and the part about Davis farting a lot is TRUE.  Watch out for his ass.

XXX,
Sarah

hey guyzzzzzzz
what's shakin 'n bakin bitchez
over all, Austin was kick ass.  actually, all of it was.

the ride up was quite interesting.  jessica was in a really weird, sometimes obnoxious, hyper mood.  very unusual.  We were listening to the junior boys and jess was so pumped, enjoyed it so much and was bouncing off the walls like a crazy person.

The topic of hookers came up a couple of times in the van.  It was very interesting conversation.  Not really.

We also listened to Queen and jess, Joanna, and I sang Bicycle Race (faavvvvv) loudly with the passion of a thousand orgasms.  It was glorious.  And after that one, we listened to Don't Stop Me Now, which is a great song to increase ampedness.  Ya know.  Oooo the scissor sisters too, they're fantastic.  I actually have a buddy who was on the cover of their new Ta Dah album.  The bicycle messenger.

I don't know if he minds, but I'll let the world know that one of Davis's guilty pleasures is that "stand by your woman" song by lenny kravitz.  Yea, that's a pretty guilty guilty pleasure.  Yikes.

We arrived at Momo's in a timely fashion and proceeded to unload, which is always fun.  It was pretty bleak at first, but once Amy Wallace (who kicks ASS by the way) got on stage, it started picking up.  She had a big blonde fan base.  After amy's set skyblue72 started setting up their shit and whatnot.  That same old same old ya know.  When they got on stage and started playing though, it was awesome incredibly awesome times a gazillion to the infintieth power bitches.  Davis was kicking his guitar's ASS.  Ripping that shit apart.  Jessica was beating those drums like a red-headed step child, and Frank, well his dance moves were stellar as always.  If you didn't go, you really missed out.  It was probably the best show of theirs out of all the ones I've seen.  It totally rocked my face off.  Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Okay, so show ends, enter Patrice Pike.  She was pretty awesome.  We're all fans of her haircut especially.

Show ends, we shoot the shit, then load up.  Jessica and frank drove back to Houston afterwards in the kickass painted van, while davis, jo, and I stayed to go to a party at Davis's brother's house, adam.  Now, that was prettttttyyy nutty.  We drank entirely too much whiskey and a few beers.  Jo and I got in the dancing mood, the slutty kind, yeaaaaaaaaaaah.  We danced to Queen, fucking LE TIGRE(<3), and others.  I kind of memorized the Deceptacon music video dance and totally danced my face off.  Yeaaa check this shit out:

Hellz yea bitches

Then after a lot of dancing, davis, jo, and I thought it would be a good idea to having boxing matches.  Needless to say, I won all of them.  Not really.  I popped davis a couple of times in the arm, and this morning he woke up with it being sore.  Not surprised.  I woke up with a horrible stomach ache, and later found out that it was because davis popped me in the stomach, previously i thought it was just because of the whiskey.  After that nonsense I decided it'd be a good idea to get in a wrestling match with a man weighing 300something pounds.  Clearly I didn't win that one, but I did alright.  I woke up with 3 new holes in my jeans.

The ride back was tedious. Houston traffic is always a blast.  We picked up some amazing taquitos at a 7/11 though.

Alright, I guess I'll start writing this paper on mythology and the book of genesis.  NO THANKS.

Hugs, kisses, and assslaps,

Sarah

hello friends!  it's sarah the intern, once again.  we decided that it'd be fun for us and you to record our travel experiences in a diary, well, mostly this nifty blog.  so after each of our travels, one of us will post an informational, and fun to read(!) blog!  yipee!
the below is a unneccesarily long description of our Laredo experience.  (it's a little longwinded)

Laredo, TX

Sat. Aug. 26, 2007 to Sun. Aug. 27, 2007

The ride from Houston to Laredo was not too bad.  It did take longer than expected because of traffic, a detour, and traffic.  Not too long after we got out of the traffic, we made a stop at a gas station, to get gas, obviously, and to urinate/get coffee.  While the band was urinating, I was smoking a cigarette and chit-chatting it up with a crack head.  He was probably one of the nicest crack heads I've ever met.  But the band finished their biznazz and crack head and I had to part ways.  After a couple of hours driving, we stopped at a kickass DQ in some small fast food infested town.  I won't comment on what everyone else got, but I got some shitty "fried steak fingers" WHICH LOOKED just like chicken fingers on the menu board!  BUT I wasn't wearing my glasses, AND it was a four finger meal, opposed to the six finger chicken meal, which was the next picture on the menu.  Well, I decided not to reorder, because that would just be a pain in the ass, and I also didn't want to be a negative nancy.  So I sucked it up. Yeaaaah sucked it up, bite the bullet, what have you.  After the meal, I could have sworn I was going to have a heart attack, OR just an incredibly atomic fast food fart, both of which are just as dangerous.

Jessica was pretty hyper during the ride.  She claimed it was because she did not exercise that day, but I think she was just really excited to see the bikers at GW's Roadhouse, but granted, some of them were incredibly sexy with their biker-gang attire, leather assless chaps(HOT) and all.

When we arrived at GW's Roadhouse, we were welcomed, or just intimidated by the motorcycle convention in the parking lot.  Frank was extremely careful maneuvering the van around the motorcycles and cars.  He, along with the rest of us, did NOT want to piss off a biker.  I think their thick, long, and hairy mustaches are the most intimidating.  We got there around 8, I think, and set up til 10 pm.  During the sound checks, one of the mics wasn't working, and apparently it must be really hard to fix a mic.  So the band enjoyed dealing with that nonsense for an hour, with the roadhouse sound guy. Other than the bikers, we had some super awesome kickass Laredo fans check us out.  They were very nice, and well behaved.

The venue put us up in a hotel, which I wont name, but more like, um, schmotel.  Anyway, it had a kickass pool.  I just want to thank baby jeebus that I didn't have a blacklight in the room.  There were visible stains on the carpet, could be cat, or child piss stains.  There were cigarette burns on the carpet where the "desk" and chair were.  I'm assuming that's where the chain-smoking prostitute sits during the business transaction.  BUT I do have to say, that I've stayed in worse places.  The worst was some place in San Antonio; there were pre-inhabitant pubes on the blankets.  Anyways, back to the shitty hotel.  The vending machine was all sold out, that pissed me off because i was in a super unhealthy soda mood.

We left the hotel unscathed, and hopefully with no diseases.  The ride back seemed to be a lot shorter than the ride to Laredo.  I slept most of the way.  Being an intern is hard work, believe me.  But it's barrels of fun, so it's totally worth it. Yeaaaaaaaaahhh.  We made two stops.  At one gas station, the women's restroom was so dirty that Jess had to announce the state that it was in, while she was on the pot.  And when I walked in, yes, very very dirty indeed.  But I've been in worse.  I got a soda, REESES PIECES(fuckyesss), and some KICK ASS sunglasses.  They're really big, black, super 80's, with blue tint.  For our second stop we went to Buc-ee's.  It was my first time to ever experience a Buc-ees, and the band was really excited for me, because they though Buc-ees are so kickass that anyone's first time at a Buc-ees is like going to Disneyworld for the first time.  It was close.

After Buc-ee's we continued our journey back to Screwston.  Luckily there weren't any bad suprises, so we mad it back in good time.

Well that's pretty much it for Laredo.

THANK YOU LAREDOANS FOR COMING TO OUR SHOW!
WE HEART YOU!

<3,
Sarah the Intern

we're mixing our new record and it's exciting! for us. and i can't sleep because i'm really pretty fired up about it. oh yeah, and because of my anxiety and o.c.d. that always throws a little party into any earnest efforts towards slumber. steve christensen is the engineer/producer and he kicks total ass. or totally kicks ass. yeah, plus i just got back from watching 'blades of glory' and i gotta say, i'm kind of inspired. i mean if two dudes can rock the gold, so can you. and you and you and you. know what i'm saying?

right, so this is why you shouldn't blog late at night after waaay too much caffeine. well, for me way too much is like one cup of coffee. so whatever.

point being, our new cd is gonna come out within the next few months and we hope you like it because we're thinking that it ROCKS!!!!!!!

and we just got a new van and it's name is trogdor and it ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO!!!!!!!!!

love to you and yours and theirs and all of them. and all the rest of them!

hey peoples,

thank you so much for allowing us to ROCK friday night at rudyard's. we had a great time and hopefully y'all did too. we actually had to turn people away at the door because that joint was packed! i mean that fine establishment was brimming with even finer folk. your support left us all teary-eyed. in fact, all day yesterday i cried elephant tears in my little loft, with my soft blankee by my side, bawling like a baby, remembering the time when michelle robbins called me dumber than her little baby cousin and.....

oh, tears of joy..cd release...right, right. sorry.

but seriously, we just want to thank everyone who came out and supported local music, and our music, and music in general, and thanks for the love because it felt great.

see you on new year's at dean's. let's party again, for the last time this crazy year. and not like it's 1999, for the love of god. but if you want to, that's ok too. whatever floats your boat. shoes.

much love,

inspired by the brothers wilkins, who recently posted their current favorite records, it is i, jessica, who will now attempt the discipline of reeling off some favorites of my own. i'm going to do a top 10 stream of consciousness list. so that means that this may not be all of my absolute favorites of all time all together and thought out carefully. it's just what i'm into right now, or what has inspired me or has been on my mind as of late. talk to me. let me know yer thoughts. ok, here goes:

*joni mitchell- don juan's reckless daughter

when joni burst onto the scene, she was something of an anomoly in that she was a confessional woman songwriter who sang from her guts about her turbulent inner life. she was a psychological landscape artist, giving bob dylan a run for his money in the rich lyrical lyricism department. she's an inspiring figure. and she had damn cool style. anyway, i love this album because it's joni at her grooviest and most hypnotic. jaco pastorius plays bass on this record, and the mood is just so dreamy...like driving through golden summer fields during sunset.

*metric-live it out

this is a kick-ass record by a dynamic and kick-ass band. emily haines blends soft, feminine candor with don't-you-dare-fuck-with-me-and-i've- got-something-to-say-about-it-even-if-you-don't attitude. great musicianship with a post-punk edge and fantastic social commentary.  'buy this car to drive to work, drive to work to pay for this car....'.  flippin sweet.

*dinosaur jr.- green mind

well, i was out with my friend rachel r. tonight and we got ice cream at amy's (mmmm...butter. thanks davis for the tip). the song 'green mind' came on and i was overtaken with love for this record. j. mascis writes such hooky pop songs that are so overdriven and heartily played that the contrast is really sublime. his guitar playing is so frenetic, sloppy and great, the drums thunder and crash so sweetly, and i'm in love all over again as a teenager on dope.

*bob dylan- blood on the tracks

obviously a classic. everytime i listen to this record, i cry. enough said.

*miles davis-in a silent way

this is one of miles' first forays into electric/fusion/psychedelic jazz. and it's a magical journey. the hushed mood lingers, then weaves and flows like a lazy river, then gaining speed builds and intensifies. throughout the record the rhythm section (tony williams- drums, dave holland-bass) lays down a groove and sticks with it. and there's only 2 songs. the feeling and style are a major precursor to lots of electronic ambient stuff that was to come and is happening now. it's still fresh after 40 years! amazing. plus john mclaughlin's guitar rocks. this is an amazing listening experience. especially late, late at night.

*tori amos-under the pink

this is a groundbreaking record if you ask me, and here's why- of course tori's playing and singing is fantastic, but the grooves here are otherwordly. they slam in such a wide way. something about her sweet high singing, her wierd fucking lyrics, changing time signatures and deep soul-meets classical piano slamming makes me go crazy. like a fox. 'god sometimes you just don't come through. do you need a woman to look after you? ' haha.

*police-zenyatta mondatta

well, these guys were an ok band (!) but anyway, this was one of the first records i ever bought, and i still can't get 'canary in a coalmine' out of my head. I sing it like every other day or something. yeah, it's like that.

*neil young and crazy horse-live rust

this record is a study in contrasts, starting off with beautiful, acoustic dreamy songs like 'sugar mountain', and turns into a full-on rock assault by album's end. another case of unhinged, loose playing creating an incredible aural assault. but the songs, the songs.......'needle and the damage done' is one of the best non-preachy anti-drug songs ever. and this version of 'cortez the killer' makes me want to rock and sob in the same breath.

*donny hathaway-live

another live album. donny hathaway was, according to me and i think frank probably too, one of the greatest soul singers ever. he jumped off of the sears tower in chicago in 1979. but this live performance starts on grooving and just don't stop. hathaway was a masterful rhodes player, and his rhythm section, especially the mad funky conga player, went off on this record.

*jeff buckley- grace

i remember the first time i heard this record. i was in a band which consisted of me on guitar and my friend matt on drums. we were living in baltimore at the time. anyway, he put on this record and i had to sit down when i heard jeff buckley's voice. because if i didn't, my legs would have given out. this record is so impassioned, equal parts rockin' and sweet, sweet, soft. spine tingling.

well, it seems like i could have listed ALOT more. like this doesn't even scrach the surface of my musical tastes and loves and influences. but that's all for now, kids. talk amongst yourselves.

love,

jessica

wow..................................

metric rocked the meridian so hard last night i am still shaking. both davis and i are literally weak in the knees from jumping up and down on the concrete floor throughout the whole entire show. and bob from the meridian is such a great guy- he introduced us to the band and they were really cool people as well as totally bad ass musicians.

if you're not familiar with the band metric you will be soon, because not only are both of their records great, but their live performances are simply electrifying! i was thoroughly rocked and inspired. check them out at ilovemetric.com. their fan page is also one of our myspace friends, in our "top 8" even. check it.

just wanted to say that.
