Hello dear friends.

Today is a special day for me.  I've just arrived at one of my favorite venues in the world, Leuven's STUK, where I'll be playing two concerts, tonight and tomorrow.  And for each concert, everyone in the audience has a bed, and they fall asleep to the sound of me playing.  Both shows are sold out and I am genuinely excited about these two nights!  I even made a special slide show and a little movie (well more like a slide show put to music with some text on the images) to screen on the wall.  I will play until I'm too tired, and then go to sleep right there among the audience.  And of course I brought my pajamas.  My last concerts of the year, my first time playing in my pajamas!

But anyhow, tonight marks the release of a new piece of my music.  It's called "Music for a Sleeping Sculpture of Peter Broderick," and it is just that.  Music I made (all vocals and piano, with some electronic processing) to go along with a sculpture made of my me by Chrysa Chouliara, which lies there sleeping.

This release is limited to 500 copies!  And it is released in a very beautiful hand packaged case, with three paper inserts and a photo of the sculpture on the front.  If you'd like to buy a copy before they're gone, or hear a sample of the music, please head over HERE HERE HERE!!!

A huge thanks to Wim at Slaapwel for his enthusiasm and support, and for him and Gilke at STUK, for organizing these sleep concerts.  It's been a very busy year.  I have made so much music and played so many concerts, seen so many new places, met so many amazing people,  And for now it all ends here in Leuven with a couply sleepy concerts and this new release.  I wish you all a wonderful end of 2009, and let's see where 2010 will take us!

Much Love.

Hello friends!

I think it's about time for another news update.  I've been touring all the time, as always, and in between tours I've been working on my next full length album, which will be out sometime next year.  But I have two more releases coming out before the end of 2009, which I'm very pleased to share with you.

1.  Blank Grey Canvas Sky
- This is an album I made in collaboration with one of my favorite artists, Machinefabriek.  It will be released very soon on Fang Bomb records.  You can hear one track and order copies at the FANG BOMB SITE.  Rutger (Machinefabriek) and I made this album by swapping files back and forth over the internet.  Isn't it strange to make an album with someone you've never actually played music with before?  Well, after the album was finished, we went to the VPRO radio in Amsterdam and improvised a live session together.  You can hear this for free RIGHT HERE.

2.  Music for a Sleeping Sculpture of Peter Broderick
- Exactly how it sounds.  A girl named Chrysa Chouliara, attending art school in Amsterdam, asked me one day if she could use my face in a sculptre she was making.  She made a life-size sculpture of me which lies on a bed sleeping, with a tiny motor in the chest to simulate the sound of breathing.  I made a 30 minute piece of music with voice, piano, and laptop, to be played on a loop at the opening exhibition.  I am very happy with this piece of music, and very pleased to say that it will be released on the lovely SLAAPWEL RECORDS, who only release music to sleep to, and always with deluxe, handmade packaging.  It will be pressed in a limited edition of 500 copies, and released in December.  To celebrate the release there will be two Slaapwel label nights in Leuven, Belgium, at the amazing STUK venue, on December 10 and 11.  At these concerts, everyone in the audience gets a bed, to sleep at the venue, and I will be playing music while you go to sleep!  And breakfast is included!

Thank you for reading.  There will be more news about my next album sometime at the beginning of next year.  It has turned into a monster of a project, and I look forward to the day when I can share it with you all.

Autumn wishes.

Hello my friends!

I am happy to tell you that a collection of my music called 4 Track Songs has just been released on Type Recordings, on CD and double vinyl.  I recorded this music back in 2006, before I had ever released an album of my own, with some very cheap and basic recording equipment.

I made two short albums like this, and then I started this Myspace page.  I posted the music, and announced that I was selling my albums for $0.00.  All you had to do was write me on here and I'd send you one.

No one wrote.

My little virtual corner of the internet wasn't getting much attention then.  It took me several months to get rid of all the copies, asking family members to take five copies and share them.  I never thought this music would take me anywhere, I just wanted to share it with whoever wanted to hear.

Anyhow, now the music is more widely available, for anyone who would like to hear it.  There is a very nice review which I am very thankful for RIGHT HERE.

And the same site made an interview with me recently, so if you'd like to read more about some of my recent and upcoming projects, you can go RIGHT HERE.

Best wishes to you all!

Hello my friends.

As I mentioned before, this year is completely full of releases and concerts from me.  Right now I'm in the middle of a giant European tour, and it has been really, really lovely.  Thank you so much to everyone who has come out to the concerts so far.  I wanted to give you a little update of my projects for this year.  I am working on my next full-length album, which should be released early 2010, but between now and then there are a bunch of things coming!

SOLO RECORDINGS

Five Film Score Outtakes --
This 3" CD-R is being released today, May 27!  It comes in a deluxe package from the small Italian label Secret Fury Hole, in a limited edition of 200 handmade copies.  I will be selling the first copies at my concert in Milano tonight!  It is exactly how it sounds, five outtakes from a film score I made in March, for a short film by Matt Clark.  Piano, violin, cello and guitar.  If you want one, you can order HERE, or email me at peter.broderick@yahoo.com, and if I have any copies left I'd be happy to mail you one!  EDIT JUNE 21:  I'M SORRY THESE ARE ALL SOLD OUT NOW!  :-(

Music for Falling From Trees --
This is a 30 minute piece, in seven sections, all made from piano and strings.  The North American and Japanese release will be handled by Western Vinyl, and released in July.  Elsewhere the mini-album is released by Erased Tapes, in stores on June 1st.  And I'm selling copies at my concerts now!

4 track songs --
In late Summer, a very strange collection of my music will be released on Type Recordings, on CD and double vinyl (the vinyl has four bonus tracks!).  This is music I made before my first album Float, all recorded on a 4 track cassette recorded with very limited equipment.  The music is all over the place.  Sometimes instrumental, sometimes singing.  This is my music in it's most raw form.

Ten Duets --
This little album was released on tape cassette only, by Digitalis Ltd., in a limited edition of 300 copies.  Unfortunately it has already sold out.  And at this point there are no plans to reissue it.  EDIT JUNE 21:  THERE IS NOW TALK ABOUT MAKING A SECOND EDITION OF THIS TAPE.  POSSIBLY 200 MORE COPIES TO COME!  :-D

Home (reissue with bonus disc) --
At some point in the next few months, Bella Union will be reissuing a two CD version of my album Home.  The first disc is the original album.  The second disc is called "Second Home", and is a collection of alternate versions of songs and unreleased tracks.  It features many of the live versions I play of my songs, and some of the songs I play live which haven't been released.  All recorded in two short nights at the Efterklang studio at the end of last year.

Docile (2nd edition CD) --
This is my first mini-album, just solo piano, originally released at the end of 2007 on Kning Disk, and the CD version has been sold out for a long time.  Finally we have made a 2nd edition of the CD, which I have for sale at my live concerts now.  You can email me if you'd like to order one.

Blank Grey Canvas Sky (with Machinefabriek) --
I  am VERY excited about this album!  Machinefabriek is one of my favorite artists working today, and we have recently finished a collaborative full-length album.  Six tracks, just under 43 minutes.  Probably my most experimental release so far, we tried a lot of different things on this album, pushing ourselves to explore new areas...  And for me the result is the collection of music I feel most proud of so far.  It will be released on the awesome Swedish label Fang Bomb, on October 1st, on CD and WHITE vinyl!

OTHER APPEARENCES:

V/A - Scott Walker:  30 Century Man --
I've had the honor of contributing a track to this Scott Walker tribute album.  I made an A Cappella version of his wonderful song Duchess, which appears as the first track of the album!  It has recently been released on Lakeshore Records.

Taxi Taxi - Step Out Into The Light EP --
I've been a huge fan of these amazing Swedish girls since the release of their first EP in 2007.  Later this year they will release their first full-length album.  Just a couple weeks ago they released this digital EP, which ends with me covering their song "Belle".  My track was recorded and mixed by Nils Frahm, while we were on tour in England back in January, and he played some beautiful piano on it!

soccer Committee & Machinefabriek - Redrawn --
I contributed a track to this remix album.  All artists were asked to remix or cover a song from the amazing soccer Committee & Machinefabriek album from last year, "Drawn".

Balmorhea - All is Wild, All is Silent REMIXES --
Another remix album I made a track for.  Balmorhea are some of my greatest friends and favorite musicians, so I was happy and honored to remix the last song on their latest album.

Heather Woods Broderick - TBA --
Yep, this is my sister!  I absolutely love the music she makes, and I helped her to record and mix her first full-length album, which will be released this summer on the awesome Australian label Preservation.  I'm so excited for this music to be released into the world!

Nils Frahm - The Bells --
OK, I didn't actually play anything on this album (aside from the one track where I am laying inside the piano, on top of the strings!), but Nils and I rented a church in Berlin for two days, and I acted as "producer" as he recorded an album of solo piano music.  This is some of my favorite music I've ever heard.  If I can only recommend one album this year, it's this one.  It has just been released on Kning Disk, as solo piano series vol. 2, the follow up to my mini-album Docile, on CD and 12" vinyl.  It comes in amazing handmade packaging, with photos of the recording session inside, taken by Nils's father, who is an amazing photographer.  I could go on and on about this music.  I love it.

-----

I think that's enough for now.  There are a few more things I haven't mentioned, but for now I'll leave it at this!  Thanks for reading, and maybe I'll be playing a concert near you soon!

Love,
P

Dear friends!

Happy May to you all.  I'm writing from Cork, Ireland.  Today is the second day of my first big headlining tour around Europe, which is nearly six weeks long!  All the dates are posted on my main page, so please feel free to have a look and see if I'm coming to your city!  I would love to see all your friendly faces at the concerts.

And today is a special day, because I have just received copies of my brand new mini album, Music for FALLING FROM TREES, which I'll have for sale on my tour!  I was commissioned to write this music for a new contemporary dance piece by Neon Productions (London) back in January.  The music is comprised entirely of strings and piano, although sometimes those sounds were altered to create other tones within the music, such as the sound of a ticking clock, which was called for in the script, made by tapping on the body of the violin with my fingernails, and some sections have extended droning tones which were made by extending and processing violin and/or piano.  You can hear a couple samples on my page.  And you can see a small video clip from the dance RIGHT HERE :-)

This little album is being released by two lovely record labels.  ERASED TAPES will release it in June in Europe, and WESTERN VINYL will release it in July in North America.  For those of you in Europe, you can buy the CD from me right now at my concerts, or you can head over the the ERASED TAPES STORE where they already have it for sale!  Yahooooo!

Music for Falling From Trees!

And also, I wanted to take this time to tell you that starting Tuesday in Münster, one of my dearest friends and favorite musicians, NILS FRAHM, will be joining me for the rest of my tour, playing support for most of the concerts.  At the end of last year, Nils and I rented a church in Berlin (where he lives), and he recorded a beautiful album of solo piano, which will be released soon on the lovely Swedish label KNING DISK.  Nils mostly just improvised for hours and hours, and I layed in the church staring at the ceiling, sometimes giving him rules such as "Make a song only using the notes C, E, and G."  At one point I layed down inside the piano, on the strings, and told him to make a song called "Peter is dead in the piano."  I think this is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard, and Nils is one of the best friends I've ever made.  A beautiful person who makes beautiful music...  HAVE A LISTEN!

Take care!

Hello my friends!

2009 has gotten off to a very busy start. Tons of concerts, tons of new projects. Lots of very exciting things. I have begun work on my next proper full-length album, and I'm going to be spending some time on this one. I estimate that it won't be out until next year sometime. BUT, in the meantime, I will have a bunch of smaller releases this year! Already confirmed are a 3" CD on a small Italian label, a CD release of my score for Falling From Trees, a reissue album of some old 4 track recordings, and a collaborative full-length album with one of my favorite musicians working today, Machinefabriek.

But the first thing I have to share with you is this brand new tape cassette album on the Digitalis label! "Ten Duets" is exactly as it sounds, a collection of ten duets, each one for a different pair of instruments, recorded in various places over the last 8 or 9 months. The tape comes with a deluxe fold out showing 11 polaroid photos. 1 photo of each pair of instruments, and then a cover photo which is a photo of all the other photos, taped to my sister's head! There are only 300 copies of this little album, and the copies I got are pretty much gone already! But Digitalis still has copies, so head on over HERE if you want to buy one! Can you tell I'm excited? Check it out!!!

EDIT 3/27:  Digitalis has completely sold out.  Check Boomkat.com in 7-10 days.  They will be getting quite a few copies, but once those are gone, they're gone!

Ten Duets!!!

Hello Friends!

And happy 2009 to you all!  I hope the year is getting off to a good start for everyone.  For me it's been very very busy so far.  Lot's of exciting new music things happening, and I want to tell you about a project I just completed.

It's a nearly 30 minute piece of music, in 7 sections, commissioned by Neon Productions to accompany their new contemporary dance piece called Falling From Trees.  The piece is for four dancers, and is also accompanied by video visuals.  As Adrienne Hart (the writer of the dance piece) says,  "The piece is set in a psychiatric hospital and centered around one man’s struggle to retain his identity in the most extreme of circumstances."

The score is made up entirely of piano and strings, the piano loosely representing the the patient in the story, and the strings loosely representing the three females who work at the hospital.  I am quite pleased with how this music has turned out!!  And I believe it will be released on CD later this year.   More details to come on that...

Falling From Trees premieres January 21st at 8 pm as part of this year's Resolution! Dance Festival in London.  Sadly I can't be there, so if you happen to make it, please let me know how it goes!  I haven't even seen the piece yet!

Very best to you all.
Peter

Hello Friends.

I'm writing to ask for your help on a new song. I would like to ask whoever is willing to make a recording of themselves reciting the text below, and then email the recording to me at peter.broderick@yahoo.com

Speak it, whisper it, shout it, sing it, growl it, get your child, parrot (this would be especiaiy cool -- bonus points to whoever gets a parrot to do it!), dog or cat to say it, however you like. All recordings will be used in this song. You can also send me a CD-R of the recording if you wish. Just email and ask for my address :-)

Here is the text, and thanks so much in advance if you can help me out on this!

where is your body
swimming in the river
and why can't it be warm like ours

a heart that would never rest
unwillingly asleep

what you've left behind is not enough, not enough
because no one was ready

Hi Friends!

I don't usually post reviews on here, but today I'm bursting with joy because of a very nice 5 stars out of 5 and CD of the week at THE SUNDAY TIMES, for my album Home, and I wanted to share it with all of you!!

I also want to say thanks a lot to the kind folks who came out to my shows in the UK and Brussels this last week, and to remind people in the London area that next Sunday, November 2nd, I'll be playing at the amazing Union Chapel. This will be my first concert with an extra musician. There will be a baby grand piano in the old church, and I'll be joined on stage by an amazing violinist named Guggy from the great band Seabear. With this extra help I'll be able to perform some songs off my albums that I haven't been able to play by myself in the past. I think it will be a very special evening, especially because Sylvain Chauveau and Greg Haines will be playing as well! I hope to see some of you there :-)

Take care,
Peter

Hello friends!

As some of you may know, my new album Home was released on CD and digital formats yesterday in North America by Hush Records, with European release to come in mid October on Bella Union, as well as a limited edition vinyl on Type Records.

To celebrate the release of this album I've made a SPECIAL PAGE for it, where you can stream six of the songs (which is eight in total if you count the two on this page, which is almost the entire album!), and you can read a little bit more about it.

You can either click HERE or find the page as my top friend. I will use this page in the future as well. Whenever I have a new release I will update the page with songs from that album :-)

Best wishes,
Peter
