Hey All!

It’s been long since my last update. This doesn’t mean that I’ve had a lot of rest!

Not at all. After the Caribbean BluesCruise in January, I’ve been recording the first half of my new album, together with producer David Z. at the Castle Oaks studio in Los Angeles. I’ll be returning to L.A. in April to finish the recordings with producer Mark Dearnley (AC/DC, PAUL McCARTNEY, TOM PETTY and many more)
Release is set for July 15 in the States and September 15 in Europe. I promise you a great record!

I might be playing some of the new tracks at one of my shows, if I see no cameras or phones pointed at me ;-) YouTube is the last place where I wanna find the new songs, specially BEFORE the release date :-) The summer tours will bring us to the East- en West coast, to the mid-West, to Canada and many countries in Europe including Finland where I’ll be playing the dream come true kind a show with the one and only BB King!

Also we have a live chat planned @ www.anapopovic.org TONIGHT (sunday March 29) at 8pm - Western European time. For those of you from outside Europe here is a time guide:
- Central Europe (CET) 8pm
- UK (GMT) 7pm
- Los Angeles (PST) 11am
- Chicago (CST) 1pm
- New York (EST) 2pm

Would really enjoying meeting you during the chat to catch up!

Looking forward to my upcoming gigs in Swiss, France and Germany and of course our upcoming US-tour kicking of in Pennsylvania on May 15.

Check out my tourdates on www.anapopovic.com and see you real soon!

Friends!

What a great way to end the 2008: meet some of my most loyal fans and friends at the November/December German tour! thank you all for your kind support and friendship through the years. We love closing the year with Germany since they have some great crowds and great places to play. It's almost like 'home coming"..

This year's been very special for me and I enjoyed every moment of it.
I loved touring the US in the summer time, and Italy was fabulous as never before. Jamming with a lot of great and inspiring musicians among them a man who is one of my biggest influences, Mr Ronny Earl.

I am very much looking forward to the recording of my new record in L.A. in February. I am taking some time of to finish the songs, and get ready for going into the studio. I'm looking forward cruising again! This is the second time for me and it's better than the first time because I KNOW what kind of a party it is!

From February on we have shows lined up in Germany, Italy, Belgium, France and even Romania!

As I prepare to celebrate the Christmas holidays with my family, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a wonderful holiday filled with family and friends, laughter, love, good music, peace and happiness.

See you all next year!

Love, Ana

Dear friends!

I am so happy to see that my record 'Still Making History' gains more listeners each day! Thanks to YOU for spreading the word we are this week 4 on the Billboard Charts in the USA!
I'm also thrilled to see that the number of members of anapopovic.org
and anapopovic.com as well as myspace friends keep on growing fast!

2007 was a wonderful year!
"Still making history" came out, and gained a lot of popularity among my old and new fans, which I was truly hoping for. It is a personal record, and although, as you all know, I very much enjoy meeting you and talking to you after my concerts, there's always such limited time to tell everything I am experiencing, and everything that I've been through in my life.

'Still making history' was a way to share my memories, experiences and excitements with you. And if I managed to inspire you for a second to even think of becoming a musician (!) or just look at the world in positive but critical way and never stop asking questions, I think I succeeded in my aims.

We did huge amount of concerts on both sides of the Atlantic ocean, played Russia and Mexico for the first time, and I had my first movie experience while taking part in the filming of the movie 'Spring break 83' a month ago in New Orleans. It was a wonderful thing to start working with
Eclecto and Delta Groove, as well as with hard working people at Intrepid Artists who are, just as Artist Exclusive agency, very busy lining up new festivals and concerts for the 2008. They will be listed online shortly.

As 2007 is coming to an end I want to thank you for your endless support, for spreading the word, and enjoying good music. And most of all I would like to wish you very happy holidays, and a wonderful 2008.The rest of the year I will spend with my family and friends back in Amsterdam, and for those who know me well, know that this for me is a huge base where from I gain all my energy, the same one I give to you while doing the best job on earth: playing music!

With love,
Ana.

STILL MAKING HISTORY

This record started off as a simple reminder of the difficult path I chose in moving to Western Europe. Struggling to survive without letting it affect my music. The knowledge that, at a period when my country was facing difficult times and abandoned from the western world, I was fortunate to be amongst the very few who were at that time still able to do what they really love. When you're born and raised in a 3rd world country, you do not belong anywhere. You're in need of a job to survive, but you can't get permission for work. Doctors become secretaries, attorneys become cleaning ladies, and architects become hotel porters.
In my case, I decided to establish myself as a guitar player, in the company of the best guitar players who have permission to work.

The new CD explores these different worlds and how we try to connect, over decades, or hundreds of years even, and try to understand one another. It also
looks at love in many forms: true love, blessed love, new-found love, unborn love, judgmental love, forbidden love; there's lust and loneliness but also true happiness in there.

'STILL MAKING HISTORY' has a global as well as a private context. HISTORY IS NOW we are the ones who are writing it, and it's never too late to change.
WE ARE the ones that create history.

HOLD ON

This is a song that talks about facing up to the problems that you encounter when coming from a non-EU or non-USA country. The long lines to enter the country, NON EU/ EU passport lines, where The Ana Popovic Band members are standing in the fast EU PASSPORT line, but it takes forever for Ana Popovic herself to pass through security because of the wrong government in her country; a government that, just like the rest of the World, she, her family, friends and colleagues were all fighting against.

When I got my first recording opportunity in Memphis, TN I was initially refused entry to the USA. I had to return to the embassy with papers in triplicate and convince them that I wouldn't be defecting to the US for good. I was finally successful and the Memphis recording brought me my first American concerts.

"Hold on" is an optimistic view of a pessimistic reality. There's a hope that one day, people who do valuable work will not have to falsify their passports or get married to get a green card, and that one day there will be a way we can all get a fair start, no matter where we are born.

BETWEEN OUR WORLDS

Is a song I wrote fascinated by Africa, truly touched by the lack of any possibility to change your reality. If you're born poor in Europe or America, you still have a chance: you've got the right papers, the chance to find work, you live there. If you're born poor in Africa you can watch your kid starve, and you can't do a single thing about it. And I'm talking about somebody's LIFE TIME, - the only life he has, - a long, long time, spent just in poverty.

Then I thought about how the western countries all talk about it. They plan the help missions, they analyze, they try to accept each other, but the fact is that the sanctions remain, African mothers still fear their kids may starve, and finally very little changes. It talks about how we try to understand each other's worlds, but the fact is that the differences still remain. We in the western world live in comfort, while they, after so many years, still continue to struggle with Aids and hunger. It's been that way for so long.

STILL MAKING HISTORY

Talks about how there's always a chance to change reality and fight the wrong in the world. Too many sad things have happened to mankind in history - too many wars; people do not realize that HISTORY IS NOW. This is what will become our future history, this is what will go in the history books that our children will read and learn from. This IS OUR time, and we are writing it. This is what we will leave to our children. The books and the world we will leave to them.

SHADOW AFTER DARK

Talks about life in Serbia in the 90's from another side; the side of the real people, the true victims of the regime rather than the side shown on the BBC and CNN.
The reality is much different to what the media is presenting to us and only a half of the truth finds its way to the outside world.

It's the side of the people imprisoned in a dictatorship country. Where the government changes overnight. Where new governments make new rules and the people have to start playing by these new rules. When all the media of communications are in their hands, and you see no difference despite year after year of elections and demonstrations, then you need to be creative to survive.

Those are the years of Milosevic's government between 1990 and 2005. Unfortunately he still has people who support his legacy in Serbia.

IS THIS EVERYTHING THERE IS

Talks about two lonely people. They both are making their final effort in not wanting to spend another lonely night in an empty bed. They're getting ready for the evening; they sit close to each other but are still miles away. They miss each other by not being ready to make a first move.
It's a song about how many people we've missed in our lives. And about how many lonely people there are every single evening in every single nightclub.

DOUBT EVERYONE BUT ME

It's a story about forbidden love; about love being confronted with the prejudices of other people, and about how those people can judge someone else's love.
When it seems everyone is against and there is just one "for" that love.
It's fighting for what you believe in, even if others say it would never work.

MY FAVORITE NIGHT

I wrote this song in a couple of hours on an airplane, coming back home from a 5 week long tour and longing for my love who's been waiting at home…
It's about the girl getting ready and dreaming about her favorite night to come.
Just like Sting would say: "Bring on the night".

CALENDARS

It's about a life that's completely changed after meeting that one person. It gets hard to explain how it felt before he came into your life. You even select the events that happen in your life by placing them before or after you've met him.
That way there are calendars before and after he came into your life. It's almost that you can't see your life as continuity, but as two different lives you've led.

U COMPLETE ME

This song evolved on a tropical island, being with my favorite person and simply going through our old SMS messages and writing them down on a peace of paper.
I thought - it's so difficult to write a true love song, because it can often sound cheesy. But I guess if you want to write what you really feel for him, to him, you'll try to sound cool. I thought it would make a great (and very honest) love song.

THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE

Every woman knows a man, or is with a man, or sees him on TV, or in a magazine, that she could call "the sexiest man alive". It's THE MAN that simply takes her breath away. Even though he could make her do things that she later would regret, she would willingly agree to them; even knowing that she probably would not keep him for very long, simply because he's not there to stay.

I hope you enjoy listening to it, as much as I enjoyed making it.

Love,
Ana

ANA POPOVIC signs for Delta Groove records

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Ana Popovic has joined the roster of recording artists at Delta Groove Productions in Los Angeles, with her first release for the label planned on June 19, 2007. Recording sessions in LA have been finalised with Grammy Award winning producer John Porter at the helm. Porter has worked extensively with Brian Ferry and Roxy Music as well as producing for BB King, Buddy Guy, Los Lonely Boys, Bonnie Raitt and Keb Mo.

Europe's hottest Guitar player
2006 has seen Ana Popovic undertake an extensive concert tour, appearing on 80 stages in the USA and a further 50 in Europe as well as one concert booking with a difference – the legendary 'Blues Cruise' where she was the first European artist ever called upon to play having her own band backing her on-board. Through these electrifying performances she has succeeded in establishing herself as both one of Europe's premier blues acts and as one of its' hottest guitar players.

In February Ana was a nominee for 'Blues Artist of the Year' by the readers of 'BluesWax Magazine' (Other nominees included Tab Benoit and Joe Bonamassa). In July she received an incredible six nominations for the 'Living blues' awards 2006, including 'Best blues DVD of 2005'(Ana!), 'Best Live Performer', 'Best Female Blues Artist' and 'Most Outstanding Musician (Guitar)'.

Ana Popovic, born in Serbia and currently living in the Netherlands, now has two studio albums and a live CD/DVD available, and a history of sold out jazz, pop and blues festivals worldwide. She is the only continental European Artist ever to be nominated for a WC Handy Award and is a winner of one of France's oldest and most prestigious awards a 'Jazz A Juan Revelations' at Juan Les Pines (2003). She was also nominated for 'The Best Blues Album' at the Jammie Awards, New York, (2003).

In the coming month Ana Popovic and band are scheduled in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. She'll be back in the USA in January 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah where other featured acts include John Mayer and Sheryl Crow.

Now, HOW ABOUT those summer tours?! Aren't you all asking yourself how is it possible to be on a 7 weeks long tour, just to close the summer tour, that started all the way in May?

Well..... I can tell you, I miss being on the road, already! – BUT- I'm loving every bit of my life here in Amsterdam!

In order to survive such long tours you need to have a great team beside you. I think the agencies did an excellent job; Piedmont Talent and his tours in the US got us to some great festivals, and great clubs, and introduced us to the new audiences. Artist Exclusive is constantly busy opening new territories, like England, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, etc. Street Team at the anapopovic.org site is making sure everyone knows what's happening on the road, and follows us on our intensive tours. That way I can devote myself to enjoy playing, and making my new record.

I took October easy, and kept it to 5 concerts for this month, cause I enjoy being home, as you all know. But I look very much forward to my upcoming German tour.

America was great! We had such a great time, America feels like home every time I go over there to play. All together 13 weeks this summer was just the right amount of time spent in the USA. Everything less then that would be a shame.
It was great to see some of the members from the .org site this summer. I enjoyed a lot our small party at the very last festival, knowing that I'll get to go home after one of my most intense tours ever.

Britain was fun to play for the first time. The recording session at the BBC radio was a great experience. The broadcast time will be beginning of next year; it will follow the release of my new record at the beginning of 2007!!!

Much Love

Ana.
