Here's another track from the 2008 album that never was.  This one will more than likely never end up on an official release, so I thought I'd throw it up here at the very least. I actually like this song quite a bit, perhaps you will as well...

I just posted one of the demos that I recorded about sixteen months ago. As contradictory as this sounds, a lot has happened since then, but at the same time, not much has happened.

I believe it was in February of 2008 that I recorded about twelve demos for what I thought was going to be my next record. For several reasons, both understood and not, that project was put on a shelf.  Or scrapped, depending on how you look at it.  Near the end of the year I inadvertently began work on a totally different project under the name of Luna Versus You.  I say inadvertently because it was just one song created for a friend to use with an animation project. Turns out that I liked it and kept going until that initial burst of steam ran out.  There are eight songs now, and apparently, that will more than likely be the next album that I release.

Honestly, I'm not sure of what direction that I'm headed in these days.  You may read that as, I am fairly certain that I'm wandering around a little bit lost. So until I find the right path again, I thought I'd at least share something from the one I thought I was on a year ago.

I'm sitting here staring out the window at the puddles of rain water gathering in my muddy yard, drinking my latte and dreaming of a tour.  Not one of my own, but one that the thought of washes away the dreariness of this gray, wet day. I'm imagining an evening of a pure indie pop blissful lineup involving The Breakups and Jenny Owen Youngs. Would this, could this dream be made to be true on a glorious day in the future? My ears and soul would be so fulfilled.

Much love,
Richard

Dear Axl,

Your new album is really bad.
I hope you die in a fire for making your fans wait 17 years for that crap.

Love,
Richard

The recording of what is to become my next album came to a screeching halt several months ago. I could blame it on our puppies, I could blame it on health issues or I could blame it on day to day distractions that come and go. The truth is I'm not sure of the exact cause. It just happened to suddenly not be happening.

At first, and for a while, I was quite distraught over the situation. But I have come to accept that I just needed some redirection. The first two albums were done in a week's time (hell, I recorded another friend's new album in a day), what with the timing and inspiration and everything else falling into place under those circumstances, but this project has shown it's face to belong to a completely different beast. A more curious beast, one that wants to be patient and explore it's strengths and weaknesses and exploit them both to their fullest potential. One that wants to gestate a bit more and emerge a stronger, more mature animal. A more sexy beast, if you will.

Time will tell if this approach is beneficial or detrimental to my process.

Until that time arrives,
Take care,
Richard

For the first time in ten (10) years I will step on to a stage with a full band, next Saturday at the EARL. A band comprised of four other people that I will have met about ten hours prior to stepping on said stage. The twenty minute set we will play will consist of songs that didn't exist until we wrote them during said ten hour period on that day (hmm, with the exception of the one required cover song). There will also be five other bands performing under these strange circumstances on that evening and you can read more about what this madness for charity is all about at thehappenstance.com

...and it is in the form of a new album of the same name. HELP IS ON THE WAY was recorded in about the same number of days as my last album but this time I did it all by my lonesome. The last week in February and the first week in July with four months of hesitation and self-doubt sandwiched in-between.

The first release show is scheduled for Sept. 8th at China Cat in Los Angeles, CA.

The album will be available in select stores (in limited edition packaging) , CD Baby and iTunes shortly thereafter.

Thanks for the support!
Richard

p.s. it's ready for you at CD Baby!

Rose and Sharon insisted that I play a song at their house concert in Atlanta. I insisted that I was drunk. I also tried to tune Rose's beautiful guitar but failed...
