I believe that there is no such thing as universal morals. I do not believe that there is a universal sense of justice. If this were so, then why do people get away with rape and murder and what not? To believe that there is a sense of universal morals would mean that there is something beyond us that has made these morals true. That there exists in our reality, in our universe, something that holds this objective viewpoint. Where is it? What is it? And how do we even know it exists? No, what makes more sense, is that our ideas of what "Universal" morals are, are made up from our collective morals. But these collective morals made from our experiences. They are humans reacting to situations over time then teaching the lessons they've learned to their young for generations and generations. That is not universal, that is of a human construction. These morals we find true, even if they are morals that we find true for all of us, are creations of our own minds that reside within our thoughts. They're not written down on some cosmic list of do's and do not's, should's and should not's. Our world culture, our human culture, has it's set of broad, over arching morals (that not all of us even follow anyway), that we, as a new, global society have begun to agree upon. Ursula K Lee Guin put it very nicely in her book The Eye of the Heron (and I'm paraphrasing here), "without me, there is no circle." She says this when she draws a circle in the dirt in the wilderness. What is the circle in the dirt to the wilderness? It's nothing, it does not even exist. It's a line on the ground and ants will still crawl over it, the rain will still wash it away, none of the things in the wilderness will even understand it's presence. It's then the main character thinks on her delicacy, and how much the fear of death at the hands of nature really claw at humanity, and how we build our buildings and think these urban thoughts, and lead these civilized lives to hide from that fear as much as we can. It seem this concept of Normative ethics, the idea that there is a totally objective, universal "right" and "wrong" is another way of denying what we fear. There no such thing as universal morals, because even the concept of "morals" is something that was thought up by a human, and exists only in the head space of humans. It is not "real" it is a thought (though that does depend on your definition of "real"), and although that thought can influence an action, it's just a thought, and is not universal in any way. Having said all this... I'm not saying that morals are not important. Of course they are. But, even if every single person in the world agrees to one particular moral, it will not make that moral universal, it will make it completely agreed upon as a global human moral, but that's not to say that there is a race of beings out there somewhere that would completely and utterly disagree with that moral to the core of their being. It's exactly like the way scientific theories work. We can not know for certain that gravity works everywhere, even though it works everywhere we've seen. To say that something is "universally" right or wrong is bordering on organized religion, and that's not a good thing to get mixed up in if you're trying to remain objective. So maybe a better term in my opinion to express the idea of morals being universal to humanity globally would be to say there are "global" morals.

............
The clouds are layered nicely here, pleasant to the touch…
They look so pretty, white, pure, and soft…
But no one tells you how cold they really are…
No one says how far you’d have to fall…
.. ..
In your eyes I saw these clouds
Complete with crystals white and soft, and pure
But no one said how far I’d fall…
When I can’t feel your hold, anymore…
.. ..
So I’m through with metaphors as inadequate as I was
I’m through skirting round words I was supposed to say
I miss you, every minute, every day
I miss you ever day
.. ..
So clouds are nice up here, in their place in the sky…
But they can stay there for all I care….
Because I don’t want their cold crystals, in your eyes…
I just want you, my eyes reflected in yours...
.. ..
So I’m through with metaphors as inadequate as I was
I’m through skirting round words I was supposed to say
I miss you, every minute, every day
I miss you ever day

In the kingdom of hope there is no winter here But every string of fate one day will disappear Although the darkest hour's before the dawn When kind's repaid our hope burns ever strong
And one volunteer is worth a million slaves But one good man is always hard to find And in hind sight the path is clear as day But days grow short as summers season ends
Remember it is everywhere Remember it is everywhere Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there
Practice outweighs talk in every sense And little of what you fancy does you good But with a quiet mind, the ear can hear And so little time, yet oh so little to do
So don't strive for truth nor seek to loose your illusions And do not fear, for all this soon will pass But there's no excuse for taking the beaten path And to do anything you have to get up off your ass
Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there
No yesterday no tomorrow no today! Don't try to get there 'cause you'll never find a way! If you're attached to things you'll surely go astray! It's as simple as everyday life as the way!
Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there Remember it is everywhere Remember it is always there
If you cannot find your own truth where you are Then where the fuck do you expect to find it?

I'm gonna have to get some help from my old logic professor for this one :-P The things that we value, are not physical things, they exist as ideas that we can effect, be effected by, and can attribute worth to, (getting a good grade, although the A is a letter printed on a page, it's the concept of the letter that's the grade, which is an idea that we've attributed value to). Because the things we value are ideas such as that, and we cannot share those "ideas" directly to each other, (we have to use words, which are colored only by our own individual experience, and thusly are rather poor tools for communicating ideas perfectly from one to another. For instance, two people can say they find getting an A important, but how do hey know they both value it in the same way, with the same intensity? It'd take further communication and further muddling of the primary idea :-P), we can only share with ourselves our true values. Meaning that we can only rely on ourselves for our true values as well. So if we can only rely on ourselves for true value, then even things like religion and what not who tell us they Have The Answer! are nowhere near being completely objective, because they're not you, and do not know what you value. So, that means that along with you being the only person who can know what you value, all the things you've been taught as "objective" values and what not, are only social constructs that people have come up with for themselves over the years, and tried to communicate to others, meaning that they're not objective at all! Meaning that there is not and has never been any objective value! Just a lot of subjective value. BUT! That's a great thing! because if there's only subjective value, and you can only rely on yourself for your values and what not, then you can come up with whatever you want to be valuable, you get to make the point for what is in your life! LOL. And as much as people usually tend to try and shy away from that, by using things like religion and drugs. It's a fuckin truth, and it means you get to make whatever you want mater to you, so don't worry, there was never a point, so can come up with whatever point you want :-3 V=The things that we value exist as ideas that we can effect, be effected by, and can attribute worth to D=can share ideas directly to each other T=Only share true values with ourselves (only you can know your true values) R=Can only rely on ourselves for true values A=even things like religion and what not who tell us they have the answer's values are completely objective Y=they are you K=know what you value C=all the things you've been taught as objective values are only social constructs that people have come up with for themselves E=All the things you've been taught as objective values are social constructs that people have tried to communicate to others O=All the things you've been taught as objective values are objective I=There is and was objective values S=Only subjective value G=There being only subjective value is a great thing U=you can come up with whatever you want to be valuable Q=As much as people tend to shy away from you being the only person able to come up with what is truly valuable for yourself by using things like religion and drugs W=There was never a point 3=You can come up with whatever point you want :-3!

Perplexed, it shows, with you sitting by my side This sea, of clones, and everything I meant to hide
But if this dream could be for real, and if you tell me not to fear Then maybe when, it snows, I'll get to stay with you right here
And maybe when, it shows, I hope you'll find it's worth the tears To come
Without, the masks, made up for every circumstance Beneath, the flow, of events spinning round so fast
This glow could light the path a ways, no need to take it day by day We could sit, right here, and watch it go by year by year
And when the sun set's gone and our time's moved on we'll laugh the troubled days away With no more masks to hide the ocean vast and wide to share with you up till the end I'll be in heaven there and then, and we could, do it all again … I'll be in heaven there and then, and we could, do it all again …
But in the time, to come, the tears will build up one by one And as the clones, move on, they'll whisper "something gone all wrong"
And then you'll say it's not for me, and you will say it's not to be And then you'll stand, and turn, and simply walk away
And when the sun set's gone and our time's moved on we'll laugh the troubled days away With no more masks to hide the ocean vast and wide to share with you up till the end I'll be in heaven there and then, please let us do it all again… I want to do it all again, please let us do it all again…
Even though you've left me here, with nothing really left to feel Your memory, sustains, my heart on troubled days
But I can laugh the thought away, with nothing left to say… Just memory to craft my masks, made up for every circumstance
And no one left with to confide, just masks… to hide…

New song... working on lyrics still, rough draft, and actually trying to see if i can come up with a postal service type song to go with the lyrics... that'd be pretty cool, though i'd have to like... go over to christian's house to lay the vocals down because i don't have a good mic or anything :-P Perplexed, it shows, with you sitting by my side This sea, of clones, and everything I meant to hide But if this really is for real, if you say you'll still be near Then maybe when, it snows, I'll get to stay with you right here And when, it shows, I hope you'll find it worth the tears To come Without, the masks, made up for every circumstance Beneath, the flow, of events spinning round too fast This glow could light the way, no need to take it day by day We could sit, for years, and watch it past by oh so fast And when the sun set's gone and our time's moved on we'll laugh the troubled days away With no more masks to hide the ocean vast and wide to share with you up till the end I'll be in heaven there and then, and we could do it all again… But in the time, to come, the tears will build up one by one And as the clones, move on, they'll whisper "something gone all wrong" And then you'll say it's not for me, and you will say it's not to be And you'll stand up, and turn, and simply walk away And when the sun set's gone and our time's moved on we'll laugh the troubled days away With no more masks to hide the ocean vast and wide to share with you up till the end I'll be in heaven there and then, please let us do it all again… I want to do it all again… Even though you've left me here, with nothing left to feel Your memory sustains my heart on troubled days And then I'll laugh those days away, with nothing but my masks… To sit here by my side… With no one let with to confide Just masks, to hide…

when words will wander without worry some songs still sound so somber sorry but balance beams both bought and borrowed reach rich regretful regales rallied
well when will witches wonder why? some sang so sweet some sat so shy beware bandmates bewitching brand risked represented repertoire
