Status:

Emotions are a weird thing... Watching the sun get close to setting, wondering why I feel strangely like a storm of sorts is coming.

Words:

Maybe it's time to express myself in more than 140 characters at a time. I write rarely these days. I no longer keep a journal and I rarely blog about things except DJ mixes and gigs. An almost daily accounting of my emotional and intellectual state of being use to be very important part of who I was, it may have been who I was. I was as much a collection of words on a screen as I was a living breathing person.

I still love words, both written and spoken. They are amongst the most powerful things in human existance, both more deadly than weapons and more healing than the most advanced medicine. They are also extremely dangerous, as is anything that powerful.

Every year or so it seems my life drastically changes, in some facet, for good or ill. A lot of these changes can be traced back to a a thought, feeling or whim put into words. I think this might be why during a time of peace in my life I tend to avoid writing in lieu of other creative outlets, like cooking or music. Both have the use of knowledge gained to manipulate ingredients into something new and pleasing, as does writing. Though the only side affect is someone not enjoying it...

However if  I truly wished to avoid change due to words, I would refrain from speaking not writing. Spoken word is much more powerful than the written one, I am not 100% sure of why this is, though all of the worlds religious and magical texts all reiterate this many, many times. Not sure what it is about lips and tongues that make the spoken word and kissing the two most powerful things I have experienced in my existence, though they are.

I am sure there is a physiologically sound chemical explanation for all of this, and there was a time in my life I would have searched for it. I no longer care about the scientific cause, I am much more interested in the metaphysical outcome. The road of humanity where emotions and intelligence only truly count in their interactions with other sentient beings.

Storms:

Yes I feel a storm brewing somewhere over the horizon of my life. Storms aren't always bad, though I always fear that they will be. Storms in life whether love, strife, success, failure, loneliness, or any of the rest of the gamut make us who we are for better or worse. In a way I welcome the storm, though for all the ineloquence of the phrase: It scares the shit out of me.

Love and Light, Kisses and Words.

Friday night I had the pleasure of attending First Fridays at Medusa Lounge with music selectors Darren Revell, Shok and guest Vixen van Gogo.  I had a night filled with ups, downs, great music, people I see daily and some I rarely ever see. In short it was a night out, with all the magic, vexation, conversation, subtle glances, excitement and mischance that makes them what they are. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to capture all of this in DJ mix. This is not the music I am known for spinning, this is about capturing an emotional rollercoaster, telling a story, the adventure that was Friday June 5th at Medusa Lounge. Here it is:

First Impressions

Bloc Party - Hunting for Witches (Crystal Castles remix)
Crescendo - Are You out There (Vandalism Club Mix)
The Killers - Mr Brightside (Bass Weasal vs. Miley Hook remix)
The Foals - Electric Bloom (Malente Remix)
Audio Bullys - Dope Fiend (Tommy & Udachi Remix)
Covenant - We want Revolution (Shok's ReRevelation Remix)
Crystal Castles - CrimeWave (Sinden Remix)
LadyHawke - Paris is Burning (Funkagenda Remix)
Leaether Strip - What If (Classical Mix)

A few technical details. This was recorded live in one take in my apartment with out planning what I was going to play, I think it is very similar to what I might have played if I spun that night and captured the vibe I was feeling. Recorded on 2 Pioneer CDJ-800 cd players, and a Pioneer DJM-800 mixer into a Gemini iKey USB key recorder.

Category: Romance and Relationships

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns.  Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues.  He believed that thereason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families.  As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome The good Saint Valentine was a priest  in Romethe days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270.

With love there is always suffering it seems and I guess it it is fitting to have a holiday commemorating someone who stood up in the face of adversity for those who dared to love... remember that today instead of trifles like cards and chocolates. Hold someone you care about and be happy you are able to.
