I thought these were going to be a "from the label" type Q+A and then opened it to see my picture there.

Here is an attempt at being funny:

A friend of Dave's told me something very powerful recently. He had lost a friend at a young age before, and the advice he was given was to try and graft a piece of that person's personality onto his own. Its important to try to keep someone's memory alive by holding onto what you loved most about them with you and share it with the world.

When talking about Dave, there's a lot of things one could carry with them. The drive, the compassion, the desire to teach and especially the bravery to be who you want to be, no matter what anyone says.

1)

Because of the efforts of some amazing promoters and the involvement of an all-star list of DJs and Musicians, over $3000 was raised for the Neutral Zone from three events last month. A big thank you from all of Dave's friends to Chris Love and Lauren Flax in NYC and Simon from Sleaze in DC for setting these up, as well as the crews and any one who promoted or played at these shows.

Tricia Romano talked about Dave and the events in the Village Voice:

Here are some pics for the event from Studio B in NYC on the 21st featuring Spankrock, DJ Funk, Stretch Armstrong, Annalyze, Derek Plaslaiko, Lauren Flax and Oxy Cottontail: http://www.nickydigital.com/index.php?/gallery/album/C264/

If any one has any pics from any of the other events, please let me know.

2)

The good people at the Neutral Zone in Ann Arbor wanted to send their thanks as well to everyone:

"Already, people who loved Dave Shayman have contributed over $5000 to the Neutral Zone to honor his memory. Honestly, we're deeply moved by the generosity of these donations. In consultation with teenagers, music program staff, and Dave's friends and family, Neutral Zone has decided to dedicate these gifts to improving our turntablism and beat making classes and opportunities, including:
• repairing two sets of turntables
• bringing guest DJs to lead workshops with youth

Future projects that we're looking in to include
• a benefit music show, perhaps in June
• a graffiti mural in memory of Dave, led by a graffiti artist working with teens

Thank you so much for making these opportunities for our community's young people possible."

More is planned in Dave's memory at the Neutral Zone. You can still donate in Dave's name, either time or money, at http://www.neutral-zone.org/donate

3)

Many of you may have heard this, but if not its a live recording of Dave playing in Paris a few years ago. He takes the crowd around the world stylistically, representing the sound of each city in his set, the interaction and enthusiasm from the crowd is great. Its hard to listen to, but its also a great reminder of who Dave was as a person and a performer.

Here's a running list of links to more about Dave should you want to read or share.
