G-spot (CORE; NYC) - In addition to being the Founder of Girls Rock & Girls Rule, G-spot's front woman Gail Silverman is a sexy siren with a spiritual twist. She commands her audience's attention by juxtaposing her sassy wit & naked vulnerability, her magnetism & enlightenment, her wrath & passion, with a no-holds barred delivery of emotion. G-spot has been on the NYC Indie music scene for more than ten years. The band literally explodes on stage, current line-up includes the awesome Donald Dixon (who has been by Gail’s side from the beginning) on bass, Dave Perry and Glenn Jenkinson on guitar and Jovan Taylor rockin’ it on the drums.  Historically G-spot has offered listeners a punky, rock-pop, hi-energy wild roller coaster ride that takes listeners from one peak to the next, leaving them catching their breath & wanting more. More recently Gail has been delving into new material, playing unplugged performances that explore life's big questions and mysteries and showcases a slightly softer side.  Her most recent release is the new single "Faith", gorgeous and relatable in its message and simplicity, it builds to a lush finish and crosses genres with a broad audience appeal hitting them right at their heart center.  Moving forward expect lots of new material filled with unexpected twists and turns that are signature Gail/G-spot.  (myspace.com/gspotband)

Kitten & The Cougar (CORE; NYC) Kitten & The Cougar was formed by the two front women in Marisa Mini & The Underage Hotties, who were going to start an all-girl Dave Matthews cover band, but couldn't find enough chicks who played instruments. So the bassist and guitarist (who like to sing, too) gathered up a man drummer and declared themselves a new band last month. Armed with new sexy ska-punk covers of classics, lots of blonde hair, hot figures and an even hotter attitude, Morgan and Marisa ARE Kitten & The Cougar.  (myspace.com/marisamini)

Loki the Grump (CORE; NYC) [are] "known for their punchy hooks, driving pulse and a strong female vocalist who brings it all together. Kind of like the lovechild of Black Flag and Poly Styrene," says Church of Girl, while Village Voice describes them as "theatrical, sardonic punk rock."  The Girls Rock & Girls Rule 8th Anniversary Event will be Loki the Grump’s FAREWELL SHOW.  After 6 years of “puttin’ the FUN back in GRUMP” they feel like their mission of spreading Grumpiness worldwide has been accomplished.  THE ORIGINAL LINE-UP RETURNS for this outrageous event!  Front woman Michele Jaffe – an award-winning songwriter who has evolved from playing drums in punk/goth bands into a loud, raucous and in-your-face rock goddess, and monster bassist Phil Pham, recognized for his numerous stints in NYC rock and punk bands will be joined on stage once again by lead guitarist Howie Ingerman, who is notorious for playing through a barrage of hi-gain nastiness, and drummer Dawn Moore, a former DJ worshipped by her audience for her unique mixes of industrial, goth, new wave, modern and post-modern songs!  Current guitarist Dimitri Vishnepolsky – a Moscow-born violin & trumpet-playing guitar god will be strutting his violin & trumpet skills on a few songs as well!  Various Grumpies will be crashing the stage as well to join in on the chaotic fun!  This diverse combo will serve an off-the-charts farewell performance that will haunt you for days - pure Grumpy FUN!  Catch Loki the Grump at this Girls Rock & Girls Rule event in NYC!  It's your last time to GET GRUMPY!!  (myspace.com/lokithegrump)

R.A.D. (CORE; NYC) This trio was brought together by fate..3 years ago…Rew {vox, guitar} & Dee {bass} met in the back seat of a van on their way to a gig in Elmira. Dee was playing in G-spot & Rew was going solo…after hours of bonding, Dee sat in on Rew’s set & has never left her side.  3 months later back to a gig in Elmira, Rew & Dee were doing a mini tour w/ some other bands & they met Dr A{drummer}who was playing in Loki the Grump. When she saw ReW & Dee drummer free she asked if she could sit in at their next show.  Yes, she has never left Rew’s side since. Through various bands together these three always felt like they needed a 4th person.  Turbulence always arose & FINALLY these three have decided to become a trio.  They have a chemistry that is unmistakably comfortable.  They can read each other like a gypsy reads palms…they have fun & play from the inside out…simple, melodic, lyrical & powerful songs. R.A.D. won each other’s hearts over & now it’s time for them to win your hearts too.. R.A.D. is all over youtube & have been playing all over NYC & its outskirts…R.A.D. hosts ReW*S internet show *ReW & WhO?* once a month as they always back her up with perfection. These 3 have been through it all & will continue to find more to uncover…  check ‘em out.. & leave HaPPy…    (myspace.com/theRADband(youtube.com/rewandwho)

The Rosies (NY) The Rosies, who were recently named Long Island’s Best Up and Coming New Band by The Long Island Press, defy easy classification, challenging listeners with its infectious melodies, powerful vocals and three-part harmonies backed by driving, and at times dark and haunting, rock, blurring genre lines along the way. The quintet recently put out their first self-titled EP and are stoked to be participating in their fourth Girls Rock & Girls Rule event. (myspace.com/therosiesband)

Trauma Team 666 (NYC) Trauma Team 666 formed in June 6th, 2006 on the streets of New York City. It is fronted by the always intoxicated ChasTITTY Chace.  Bloody Mary is the VERY DANGEROUS drummer. Please keep your hands inside that ride at all times!  Paul Mastiff is the solid rock guitar star who keeps the rest of the fucktards in line. Danny Nads is the very over qualified bassist.  All members will be available after the show for general butt kissing, autographs and free drinks! Come get sick with Trauma Team 666 or stay home and be a loser.  Your call. (myspace.com/traumateam666)

Girls Rock & Girls Rule NJ....

.. ..

The Bloomingfields (NJ) Janet Donofrio of The Bloomingfields sings rousing originals like  “You Lied to Me,” “You’re Bad for Me,” and other uptempo rockers about love and marriage. ....

Janet first started writing and performing with guitarist-husband, David Rieth and bassist, Brendan Mee in the East Village back in the ‘80s, playing clubs like CBGBs, Kenny’s Castaways, and ABC No Rio. Now joined by Andy Day on lead guitar and John Packel on drums, the band writes and rehearses in the Bloomfield Avenue basement studio of Janet and David’s New Jersey home. Their songs “Email My Boss,” “Little Kung Fu Shop,” One Fine Summer’s Day,” and “Cold Snap” are included on the Parents Who Rock CDs, Go Play Outside and Let ‘Em Play on Snowdome Records. Parents Who Rock is a Montclair, NJ-based non-profit association of musicians who volunteer their time and talents onstage and behind the scenes to raise money for organizations throughout the community.  (myspace.com/thebloomingfields)

Edible Red (NYC) Led by firecracker front woman Collette McLafferty, edibleRed is an eclectic New York City-based five-piece collective of atypical musicians. The memorable songs the band creates can be heard on their debut CD, Welcome to My Bad Behavior, released on veteran indie label Select Records. Since thier label debut release, they have been featured on MTV Latino, FUSE, KROCK2, Oxygen Network, Showtime and Maxim Radio.  (myspace.com/ediblered)

G-SPOT (CORE; NYC) - In addition to being the Founder of Girls Rock & Girls Rule, G-spot's front woman Gail Silverman is a sexy siren with a spiritual twist. (The CCNY Sessions)".  Catch Loki the Grump at a Girls Rock & Girls Rule event in a city near you!  It's time to GET GRUMPY!!  (myspace.com/lokithegrump)....

Tara Elliott and the Red Velvets (NJ) "With a booming voice and a solid rocking/punk band behind her she kicked ass! She was one part Meat Loaf, one part Romeo Void, one part Janis Joplin, and one part Iggy Pop. She's definitely someone to keep an eye on."-The Writing World of Gary Wein
Tara Elliott and The Red Velvets is a NYC/NJ Garage, Punk Blues power trio, with Tara Elliott (songwriter, singer, guitar), Jeffery Phillips (lead bass, titanium legs) and Werner Wilding (drums, Austrian). Their sound reflects influences:  Muddy Waters, The Stooges, The Velvet Underground and The White Stripes.
After years of singing delta blues, Tara heard The Stooges' classic “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and discovered her truth: a lust for punk rock. Her songwriting had
metamorphosized. She ignited the blues, punk and classic rock into her own explosive expression. ....

Alycea Ench (NYC)  Alycea is a singer songwriter whose voice is original and honest and connects directly on an emotional level with the audience. Her music springs organically from that fertile loam where American Folk Music intersects with American Rock and Roll.  (www.myspace.com/alyceatour)

the*Dirty*Mothers (CORE; NYC) ..raunchey..dirty..compatible...

(myspace.com/thedirtymothers)

G-SPOT (CORE; NYC) - In addition to being the Founder of Girls Rock & Girls Rule, G-spot's front woman Gail Silverman is a sexy siren with a spiritual twist. She commands her audience's attention by juxtaposing her sassy wit & naked vulnerability, her magnetism & enlightenment, her wrath & passion, with a no-holds barred delivery of emotion. G-spot has been on the NYC Indie music scene for more than ten years. Historically G-spot has offered listeners a punky, rock-pop, hi-energy wild roller coaster ride that takes listeners from one peak to the next, leaving them catching their breath & wanting more. Think Janis Joplin meets the Donnas, with an attitude & an edge reminiscent of rock divas such as Joan Jett.
Moving forward expect lots of new material filled with unexpected twists and turns that are signature Gail/G-spot, and more new tracks released over the course of 2009.  (myspace.com/gspotband)

Josephine (NYC)  Josephine's lineup includes former members of Pettycoat, the Cruxshadows and Violator. Some of the music influencing Josephine includes My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, Slowdive and the Cure. The band decided to name the project after the late Josephine Rubino, mother of the band's singer/songwriter/guitarist, Xtina (Christina Rubino). Both haunted and inspired by her memory, the band writes beautifully anguished songs wrought from the heart and ether. Native Brooklynite Xtina fronts the band singing with her signature pained rasp. Also native to Brooklyn, Val Gentile's energy charged guitar and backing vocals add a driving edge. Delaware's Tracy Thompkins' skillful drumming and razor sharp timing drive the rhythm. On the bass is New Orleans' Leigh Regan whose in the pocket playing infiltrates the low end with a heaviness and sensitivity that completes the overall sound of Josephine.  (myspace.com/josephinebandnyc)

Royal Pink (NYC) Forged in the fires of Brooklyn’s Willie Mae Ladies Rock Camp, the women of Royal Pink have been bringing their special brand of feminist slut rock to the clubs of N.Y.C. for the past three years. With lusty lyrics and a double helping of bass, Royal Pink are the illegitimate, out-of-control, gum-snapping love children of the Ramones and the Shangri-Las. Their songs range dramatically in style ‹ from tricked-out blues to sweet ballads to badass punk ‹ but their vibe remains the same throughout their energetic set: bouncy, sexy, and fun. Light-hearted in nature, Royal Pink weaves innuendo into such wide-ranging themes as politics, literature, personal hygiene and part-time jobs. At their raucously dynamic live shows, you are as likely to see singers The Duchess of Pink and Baroness von Pink spanking each other as you are to see audience members disrobing and throwing their clothes on stage. Their performance style, however, isn’t as much about tawdry sex as it is about embracing different forms of sexuality. Comprised of and catering to various sexual orientations, Royal Pink’s lyrics go far beyond the typical ‘boy meets girl’ or ‘girl meets girl’ clichés.  (myspace.com/royalpinkrocks)

Stark (NYC) is Joe Hogan on guitar, Eric Robel on drums and Lani Ford—vocals/bass.  She slings poetic hillbilly angst, dipped in sleazy underground NYC rock.  Check out www.starknyc.com and ww.myspace.com/stark.  The CD Put It ToYour Head is available on cdbaby, digstation and itunes.  It was recorded at Schoolhouse and One East Studios in NYC by Joe Hogan with Lani on bass and vocals, Rob on drums and backing vocals, Josette on guitar, and guest backing vocalist, Pam the Metal Queen Grande. All songs were written by Lani Ford, who has received ASCAP songwriting awards for each of the past 4 years.  Songs and performances from both albums have received excellent praise from press and radio. STARK is a New York City rock trio with old school roots and original tunes!  STARK has played the NYC club scene for over 6 years with Lani always out front, busting up the norm and lifting hearts with her intelligent, harsh, honest, funny lyrics and huge voice.  STARK has also toured around New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maine, Connecticut, England, Holland, upstate New York, and Texas. STARK is finishing up a 3rd album called Race To The Floor to be released at the end of the Summer.  STARK is playing acoustic gigs for the Indiegrrl Conference in Nashville in August 2009.   (myspace.com/stark)

GRGR's first ever themed event and our 2009 debut showcase! It's gonna ROCk!!!

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

Current mood:  aggravated

ARGH!  IE & MySpace are not playing nice!  If you are on Internet Explorer and can only see 3 band bios here, please let us know.  There are 6 band bios here, which those on Firefox can see... so I don't know what the deal is.  Trying to fix it - please let us know if it works.  Damn incompatible bastards, the lot of 'em...

Band Bios for GRGR 2009's debut event and first ever themed showcase:  PUNK NITE!!!

....................

Loki the Grump (NY; CORE) LOKI THE GRUMP [are] "known for their punchy hooks, driving pulse and a strong female vocalist who brings it all together. Kind of like the lovechild of Black Flag and Poly Styrene," says Church of Girl, while Village Voice describes them as "theatrical, sardonic punk rock."  With a mission of "puttin' the FUN back in GRUMP" it's no wonder LTG has been spreading the grumpiness worldwide to a rabid and ever-growing fan base who proudly declare themselves GRUMPIES. Frontwoman Michele Jaffe – an award-winning songwriter - has evolved from playing drums in punk/goth bands into a loud, raucous and in-your-face rock goddess!  She is joined by guitarist Dimitri Vishnepolsky – a Moscow-born violin & trumpet-playing guitar god; monster bassist Phil Pham, recognized for his numerous stints in NYC rock and punk bands; and a rotating roster of kick-ass drummers, with the incredibly rockin' Jovan drumming for GRGR events. This diverse combo serves off-the-charts performances and hook-laden songs that haunt you for days - pure Grumpy FUN!  They recently launched their sophomore album, a limited edition CD titled "Who U Callin' A Pussy! (The CCNY Sessions)".  Catch Loki the Grump at a Girls Rock & Girls Rule event in a city near you!  It's time to GET GRUMPY!!  (lokithegrump.com)

Marisa Mini (NY; CORE) Marisa Mini & The Underage Hotties (NY; CORE) plays dirty, funny, rough-around-the-edges rock. Led by guitarist/singer Marisa – who made her GRGR debut acoustically with hilarious songs about sodomy, vibrators and blondeness -- the band is now a four-person force.  Energized, mohawked hottie Bryant takes lead guitars, adorable and precise (and blonde) hottie Bettie Morgan rules the bass and second vocals, and pounding metal man hottie Jovan delivers the drum beats.  Their live performances have  culminated in blood and bruises, but everyone's guaranteed to have a good time! S.M.U.T. (NY)  is a Brooklyn based Punk band with an attitude. Hailing back to the early days of Punk and smashing it up with their own individual style of harmonies, hardcore breakdowns, oi,  and aggro, they will smack you upside the head with sound. S.M.U.T. is fronted by Cutie Calamity, NYC artist and ex manager of Reagan Youth and Bryant Furey of the Liberties & Marisa Mini on Guitar and Vocals, with Big Joe on Bass and Vocals & Will on drums. S.M.U.T. is good, aggressive, fun music for anyone with a sense of humor and a love for shaking things up.  (myspace.com/nycsmut)

Solito (formerly "S") (NC/SC)  Solito is an art punk duo AND a fusion duo.  The art punk set is an hour plus of in your face 3 to 7 minute songs that meld the styles and technique of punk, metal, pop, and prog. This version of the band has been compared to Talking Heads, Zappa meets Butthole Surfers, Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth.  The fusion set is an hour plus of “tumbling jazz interpretations”. Solito’s unique compositions are simple yet interesting in form and style. Mostly influenced by 70’s fusion and Miles Davis. In both of its incarnations, Solito performs mostly original music with a couple obscure covers.  For the last 12 years Shawna and Moose have been playing hundreds of shows covering North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina. They have also been involved in 4 full length recordings. In October of 2008, Solito opened up for Unknown Hinson and were part of a Girls Rock Girls Rule Tour based out of New York City. Tibbie X (NY)  Tibbie X is the lead singer/antagonist of Kissy Kamikaze NYC Femme Fatale punk. Having toured across Europe and a part of the NYC underground for over 13 years she has reputation for her aggressive vocals and violent stage antics. An East village warrior with a lot of heart she claims to only write love songs, suicidal/homicidal truths, personal disasters made universal. Her solo work is self labeled as "Romanticide chaoscore". (myspace.com/Kissykamikaze)

Trauma Team 666 (NY) Trauma Team 666 formed in June 6th, 2006. It is fronted by the
always intoxicated ChasTITTY Chace.  Bloody Mary is the VERY DANGEROUS drummer. Please keep your hands inside that ride at all times! Paul Mastiff is the solid rock guitar star who keeps the rest of the fucktards in line. Trauma Team 666 has an impressive NEW bassist.  Said bassist will be officially revealed that very night! All members will be available after the show for general butt kissing, autographs and free drinks! Come get sick with Trauma Team 666 or stay home and be a loser. Your call.
