JETTY ROAD ANNOUNCED AS PERFORMERS FOR THE 38th CMAA COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS OF AUSTRALIA

Jetty Road’s three finalist nominations for Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Group / Duo of the Year will not be the only thing keeping them busy on Australian country music’s night of nights.  They have just been announced as performers for the awards, performing their smash hit single Million Miles.

Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Hi Everyone,

Last week we flew up to Sydney to attend the finalist announcements for the 38th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia and we are..... finalists in 3 categories!!!

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

SINGLE OF THE YEAR

BEST GROUP / DUO

As you can imagine, we are thrilled to bits with the result.  Tamworth Country Music Festival, here we come!

(See bottom of the blog for Jetty Road in Thursday's The Australian newspaper)

We are also thrilled to report our new single World Keeps Turning has rocketed into the Australian Country Singles Chart.  Only two weeks in and it's already sitting at #24!

The video clip for World Keeps Turning has just been finished (directed by Ross Wood) and we think it's our best yet.  Starring 13 year old Daniel Russell as the lead character, it tells the story of a boy when his father suddenly passes away.  Be prepared to get the tissues out everybody!  We were privileged to work with Daniel; his last job was starring as Billy Elliot in Billy Elliot - The Musical for the Melbourne production!

We'd also like to thank the amazing children from Valley View Primary School who also starred in the clip.  Such professionals!

Until next time,

We’re back from our overseas trips for another year!

Here’s what we’ve been up to….....

Australian Independent Country Music Awards

We had barely been home a week before we headed off to the Australian Independent Country Music Awards in Mildura.  And guess what?

We WON!

~ 2009 Australian Independent Group/Duo ~

~ 2009 Australian Independent Album of the Year ~

~ 2009 Australian Independent Artist of the Year ~

What an amazing night.  We have only ever been a finalist in one category once before at these awards so to win three was unbelievable!  A big thank you to everyone who sent us congratulatory emails and sms’s, it was very much appreciated.  It just goes to show that good news definitely travels fast!  As you can see, Simon was not there on the night as he was still in Germany.  But he was definitely there in spirit!

France / Switzerland / Germany

After playing at the Gympie Muster, we jumped back on a plane and headed over to Europe for another 3 week tour.  Although there were many long hours driving in the van (luckily no flat tyres this time!), we made some great friends, saw the most beautiful places, and played concerts to great audiences - with some even turning into die hard fans, many of them travelling from country to country to come to our shows 4 times over!  We thought they were mad, but we now think they may have caught the Australian music bug!

Below: And our last performance in Switzerland..... the audiences really go all out for their country music!

With our amazing Swizz agent Irene

For some of our trip we stayed at a place called the Sheep Farm, nestled amongst the Swiss hills, overlooking Lake Luzerne.  Judging by the photos, you can tell our job is pretty hard and tedious at times

New Single Released

What song do we follow up the massive success of our last single Million Miles with?  It didn’t take us long to decide what the next single would be; it was unanimous.  The song has received some amazing feedback since the release of the album in April, and it has also been a favorite of ours and audiences at our live shows; but most of all, it tells a great story.  It is

World Keeps Turning

Featuring the Australian Children’s Choir

The song was written about a friend of Simon’s whose father passed away one day when he was at school.  At the time, he confided of his struggle to comprehend how the world continued to go on as if nothing has happened, while his world had fallen apart.

World Keeps Turning is at radio now.....

WEFEST - U.S.A

After leaving Calgary, Canada, we fly to Minneapolis USA for Wefest.   To break up the trip we are staying in a town called..... Fargo! (yes, after the famous movie).  Not knowing whatto expect, we were wuite surprised.  Turns out, Fargo is not 'in the middle of nowhere' like the movie suggests, it's actually quite big town.  They apparently filmed the footage for the film somewhere near Minneapolis, but liked the name Fargo, so decided to use it.
The next day, we head out to Wefest to play on main stage alongside some pretty amazing names in country music. When we arrive, they show us our dressing rooms.... right next to Brooks and Dunn and Taylor Swift!
We play to some great reviews and then hang around to watch both the Taylor Swift and Brooks and Dunn shows from side of stage.  The crowds at Wefest were HUGE (see below)

We even met Kix and Ronnie before their show - very down to earth, nice guys who say they are definitely looking forward to coming back to Australia - yippee! (little did we know that they would have been talking about their farewell tour - a press release was issued only two days later about their upcoming retirement.  Did we have that much of an effect on them?).

So, our last North American festival is over!  A few days later we jump back on a place and travel the 24hr flight back home again, but boy, is it worth it; we're coming back home!  And even better, to Gympie!

Gympie Muster 2009

Our trip back to Australia is only for 1 1/2 weeks before we head back over for 3 weeks to France, Switzerland and Germany.   Just enough time to see our families and head to the Gympie Muster, one of our favorite festivals of the year. Our first show is opening up the Crow Bar on the Thursday night and after this, we are kept very busy until we leave after our last show on Saturday night.  Some of the highlights were taking part in 'Muster Chef' for this year's CMC Gympie Muster special (stay tuned to CMC, we believe it's aired at the beginning of October.  All the money raised went to a good cause; Rural Aid, BUT we do apologise if anyone bought Paula's deathly undercooked strawberry pancakes; let's just say they were ....... interesting.

Major Queensland country radio station 98.9 fm also held a competition to win a campside concert with Jetty Road, which turned out a fantastic success.  The winner, Marita was a very worthy winner with an deluxe campsite.  At this stage, we're not sure who came out the winners, her or us?  We played a mini concert at her campsite to about 150 happy onlookers; was truely one of the highlights of our festival.

Congratulations Marita and thank you to 98.9fm for running such a great competition!

No rest for the wicked.  After Gympie, we have a coupld of days to rest before we head back overseas.  Get ready for the next installement detailing our travels to France, Germany and Switzerland.

Yeeha!

Until next time,

Holy Moly!

Jetty Road with dual chart No.1's

While waiting to board our flight back to Melbourne at LA airport last week, we got the fabulous news that only did we remain at #1 for a 4th consecutive week on Australian Country Radio (at time of posting it is now at it's 5th consecutive week at #1!!), but we also climbed to #1 on the CMC Top 30 Chart this week!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has been voting for the clip on CMC and requesting at radio - we couldn't have done it without your support.

What an amazing surprise, and also a fantastic welcome home!

We won't be in the country for too long though as we are leaving mid next week for the last leg of our world tour - France, Switzerland and Germany, but before then we head to the Gympie Muster (tomorrow!).

Lots of great things will be happening with Jetty Road at Gympie this year. A couple the these will be the 98.9fm Jetty Road campside concert competition taking place on Saturday morning as well as Jetty Road featuring in part of the CMC Muster TV program - so stay tuned!

Current mood:  stoked
Hi Everyone,

What a wondeful wake up we had a few mornings ago; turning on the computer to find that Million Miles is No.1 for a third consequtive week on Australian Country Singles Chart!

Combine that with the Million Miles video clip climbing to No.2 on CMC this week and you can see why we are all fired up to come home and celebrate at Gympie!

So, a HUGE thank you to everyone requesting Million Miles, whether it was on radio or CMC (or both!), and can't wait to catch up with everyone on our return.

Cheers,

Lee, Paula, Jules & Simon

No.1 on Australian Country Radio!

We were delighted to receive the news last week that we have our first radio No.1 for our current single 'Million Miles' - but it will also stay there at No.1 for a second week!

Thank you so much to everyone who have requested to song on radio. We can't thank you enough. We’re so rapt that both radio and fans have loved the song.  Funnily enough, during our trip to Canada last year, we also achieved our first #1 on CMC too, so Canada must be our good luck charm!

Million Miles is has also climbed to #3 on CMC this week!

Please keep us in your daily voting schedule to try and make it go to No.1 :)

After an awesome riverside show on the Wednesday night in France, we drive through the night to catch our plane to Canada.  Luckily we left ourselves plenty of time because we got a flat tyre on the busiest roads in Paris, the notorious
Peripherique.

Bass player Rusty came to the rescue (mechanic by trade) and we were on our way within 15 minutes!

Merritt Mountain Fest - Canada

We caught our plane and headed on to our next adventure in British Columbia, Canada.

On the Friday we travel to Merritt Mountain Fest, BC - Canadas home of country music (just like Tamworth to Australia).  Our first performance is for the Australian hour showcase with fellow Aussies Tori Darke and Candice Long.   It was a great success with many loving the Australian accents!  Amongst our media commitments, an appearance on CMT - Canada’s version of CMC (see photo below) and our main stage performance, we had one of our biggest career highlights so far; being inducted into the Merritt Walk of Stars.

We were very honoured to be invited to take part.
Some of country music's biggest stars have been honoured with a position on the Merritt Walk of Stars, including Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Brad Paisley, the Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith and only one other Australian country music artist - Keith Urban.   Imprints of our hands were taken, which will be cast in bronze and mounted along the ‘Walk of Stars’ throughout the town of Merritt.  A huge Jetty Road mural will also be painted to accompany our handprints - we still can’t believe it!

After Mountain Fest, we then drive 8 hours to Calgary, with the next two weeks filled with radio and tv commitments and a little sightseeing through The Rockies, Banff and Lake Louise - such a beautiful part of the world.

During this time we had some amazing news; our newest single ‘Million Miles’ hit #1 on the Australian Country Singles Chart!

The next festival on our schedule is the Big Valley Jamboree, the biggest country music festival in Canada.  Headline performers are Tim McGraw, Gary Allen, Kevin Costner, Glen Campbell, and Josh Turner.  On the Thursday night we perform on the B stage to rave reviews; so much so, that we get a call the next morning to play the main stage!

We are the first Australian artists ever to do this.  We play our show that afternoon to a huge crowd, ending with a standing ovation, glowing press reviews, even roses on the stage!  It was truly memorable.

(Josh Turner on main stage at Big Valley Jamboree)

What was to happen the following day was something we will never forget.  The next day, we were relaxing at the festival, watching other artists and looking forward to watching Gary Allan in concert.

Lee, Paula and Paulas husband Damian were on the poser deck (a mezzanine level overlooking from side of stage) enjoying US star Billy Curringtons set, when they realised dark clouds were coming in.  The closer the clouds got, the worse it looked, so we decided to leave quickly.

We were metres away from the stage when the dust storm hit; the force of the wind so powerful, and the main stage collapsed.  The poser deck where we had just been sitting just moments before was crushed under rubble.  Julian was out front of stage watching the concert and left only minutes before it happened, so unfortunately he thought we had been buried.  He was sorting through the wreckage trying to help people out, all the time thinking that we were in amongst it all!   One of the women that Julian tried to free unfortunately died; 4 more were critically injured and 4 seriously injured.  The lady who died was sitting in the same row and 3 people up from where wed been sitting.

The rest of the band were all ok after taking shelter, however it took us a while to find everyone.  That night we were all shaken up by our narrow escape but very thankful that we all made it out unscathed.

Billy Currington and some of his band members were injured; Kevin Costner, who was due to take the stage next, was also trapped under the stage along with some of his crew.

We would just like to say that our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the woman who died, and to all the families of the injured.

The following day we headed back to Calgary and will now set off to the U.S to play a main stage at our next festival, WE Fest.  WE Fest has a line up of stars that would make your jaw drop; Brooks and Dunn, Taylor Swift, Trace Atkins, Tim McGraw, Big and Rich, Toby Keith, Kelly Pickler and amongst them, Jetty Road!!!!

We can't wait to come home trip home for the Gympie Muster in a few weeks before we head back to Europe!!!

Until next time......

Cheers :)

After climbing to the top position of the Australian Country Singles Chart last week, JETTY ROAD's latest single MILLION MILES has remained at #1 this week. In addition, the clip to this single has risen to #3 on CMC in Australia. A big thanks goes out to all fans who have been requesting this track on radio & CMC.. these votes make a huge difference!
