don't want to have to follow-up... but captain oskar has truly gone a
full leap further and assembled an ep which screams further staggering
quality from beginning to end.
with contributions from bizzart, jamesphoney, jamesreindeer, les trucs and filkoe,
all of whom appear at the height of their game, and once again
featuring beautiful instrumental intro and outro pieces, the ep is a
fantastic voyage back into the world of oskars staggering invention.

album review at the spider hill
jamesphoney & jamesreindeer are delighted to annouce a most-favourable review of their debut collaborative album effort rough tongue surfaces at the splendid spider hill music review site. please do take a few moments to peruse the lines herein:
An admission. While listening through to this record in iTunes, your reviewer didn’t notice that he had the shuffle function turned on. When, instead of track two, a track from Flying Lotus’ excellent Los Angeles came on, it took fully three minutes to realise my mistake. All of which is in effect high praise for jamesphoney & jamesreindeer, whose debut album whizzes through territory marked ‘Anticon’ and ‘Warp’ with as much poise and assuredness as anyone out there at the moment.
In fact, Anticon is so clearly a point of reference, with the chatterbox repetition of abstract lyrical motifs riding on top of all sorts of electronic undulations that you can’t help but expect one of their prolific voices-for-hire like Boom Bip to rock up and throw in a guest verse. Not that he needs to - the delivery is sharp and incisive throughout, and imaginatively laid askew on top of the beats, even bringing to mind Def Jux maestros Company Flow in places. The two takes on the title track are dead ringers for something like Sage Francis, while the quasi-industrial soundscaping of ‘Atomic Test Site’ is as close as they come to the real hip hop boundary-pushers. While most of the record is great, I can’t help feeling they’re keeping themselves reined in within the safety of a set of defined influences, when there’s clearly enough talent and potential here to do something quite unlike anyone else.
Recording-wise, it’s also rough around the edges throughout - the mix is a bit uneven and muddy in places, and the beats not as crisp and decisive as they need to be. For the most part, that’s not a problem, and actually does the most to lend a chimeric, cLOUDDEAD-esque quality to some of the recording, but when they go into for Dalek-style huge washes of synth, it clouds the sound rather than giving it the distinct kick it needs. These slight reservations aside, Rough Tongue Surfaces is a first-rate bit of inquisitive, sharp UK hip hop that’s easily the match of anything else on the scene. Let’s just hope the next record takes them even further.
please do be sure to wander over to thespiderhill.com for more music related word treats

Estetik -EstetikTitle: Estetik Artist: Estetik (Audi88&James P. Honey) Release:15.12.2008 Label: Leave.music www.leavemusic.de
Watch out – here comes a bomb! A special album that will reset your radio and TV polluted ears and brain.
Audio88 and James P. Honey are the shot firers behind the project called Estetik. Released on Germany’s groundbreaking leave.music label, which is known for its intelligent and pathbreaking music. A dream team, introduced to each other by Moshe, both became friends and partners in crime.
Estetik reminds me of the glory days of Punk or the beginning of Grindcore (!!??), yes you’ve heard right, no disruptive attachments. Three-minute poetry! Duets sung in English and German at the same time – nonrecurring! The lyrics are fast and mean, and sometimes you can’t decide if you should laugh or cry. Wit without nonsense and investigative word journalism without throwing dirt. Sixteen tracks made with a sharp tongue and heart blood. Sharp and cynic duets done by two geniuses, lyrics with an unmistakable message. The potential of this album is unbelievable and when you will listen to this music you will agree that this album is a huge milestone in experimental Hip-Hop. Music and cuts made by Yannic, Moshe, Desad, Misanathrop, Joel Siméus, Drumkid, AbSurd, Playpad Circus, Phontiac and DJ Breaque underline the unique character of this special album.
Album of the year – decide which year(s)! Tip of the month.

album review at snowdrop music
we are honoured to announce that the 'rough tongue surfaces' album has received a wonderfully complimentary review, and a great honour as being the first album to be featured on the brand new music blog snowdrop music, written and curated by vincent van cutten based in paris, france. please do take a moment to read his kindly lines herein: -
Rough tongue surface is born froma triple collaboration. The two english rappers James and James(jamesphoney jamesreindeer) and a swedish producer who made the music, whose name is joel simeus. And it's such a wonderful collaboration.Thetwo James both have voices full of personality but totally different.Reindeer flow is quite nasal and sounds agressive like, when Phoneyones sounds quite much more peacful and relaxed, but not lessconvinced. The sound of Simeus are quite dark, and you can easilyconcieved the whole album as a trip in some kind of chlostrophobiacarea. The only picture of the really nice package of the cd is a smallimpression of plane, landing or almost crashing on the bottom of thealbum. Some might say that the general impression of the album is adark trip of people in a plane which is in a compromised situation. Some might see it in a more organic way, related to the name of thealbum, and might see it as an interior trip inside rough organs. Thedrum machines of Simeus are quite often distorted, and increase thisimpression of rough. The changes from one track to the other are oftenfilled with radio voices and waves, which bring a nice feeling ofdreamy impressions, interrupted by the voices of james and james, thatlead you from dreamy sad songs to half awake way of concieving musiccomposing .It might be kind of a drugged trip too, the terms"ascent" and "descent" would fit with that, but it would be reductiveto consider this album as an album for weedsmokers, though weed smokerswill definitely enter in this trip without problems and woulddefinitely enjoy it.One of the track is apart from this dreamystate, and it s produced by nimrodsaarpreme. We could say it's the moredirect song, the one your ears will remember the more easily, possiblythe more accessible. Let's call it the awake song of the record. It'scalled dh.106, and on this track, the two james released this veryinnovative sing of basing a rap song on a leonard cohen loop. I guessonly typical openminded english rapper could bring us to the idea thatleonard cohen and hip hop can fit together. It's totally the kind of album that might have been published on anticon records, oakland, if anticon has an english wing.
-
needless to say, we are wonderfully glad at such praise, but also would highly recommend you wander over to snowdrop music, and bookmark it for your convenience, as it shall surely be featuring some of the most interesting reviews on all types of cutting-edge music in the weeks, months and years ahead... and on a personal note, might we make known that vincent is also an incredibly talented musician and performer in his own right. both jamesphoney and jamesreindeer are huge, undying fans of his work and would keenly encourage you to wander over to his myspace page to have a listen. so, pertinent links for your attention would be:
