So we thought we'd give people an update of what’s going on in our world at the moment: The album is in final stages of mixing/mastering!
Christian and the team are doing an awesome job - we can’t wait for everyone to hear it and everything should be completed in a couple of weeks. Until then we're talking with the label about the release, and hopefully in the coming weeks we'll have a solid release date…the countdown begins!
**We also have some huge fucking news with the album THAT WILL BLOW EVERYONES HEAD OFF!
(we wish we could say more, but we can’t speak of it right now - just like before)** We'd like to thank our good friends Switchblade for touring the east coast with us in April/May. Congrats on the killer new album guys.
It was a huge success and big thanks to everyone who came out and supported both bands. The second leg of the promo tour continues late June and into July, this time with our friends in 5 Star Prison Cell sharing the trip with us. We will be hitting a few places we missed on the first leg, like Melbourne.
Check back for full dates later this week.
Also keep an eye out on our Website, MySpace and all things O.L.E in general as we're on the countdown to the album being dropped and things will be changing in preparation for the release. New merch will be released to coincide with the new album and artwork as well.
Until then check out this video - it’s a MasterCard add with some of the Our Last Enemy lads in it -Oli, Matt and John. (even MasterCard is getting in on this shit!!!!!)

This is an interview Christian did recently, where he talks about Fear Factory, Arkaea, Recording and Our Last Enemy.. Enjoy. When a press release landed in the MetalSucks inbox a couple of months ago announcing that Fear Factory guitarist (and former bassist) Christian Olde Wolbers had released a signature Randall amplifier head and was currently booking interviews, I got to thinking. Could I possibly land an interview with Wolbers — who also happens to be a talented producer who worked on the recent Threat Signal record and tracked vocals for the new God Forbid album Earthsblood — ask him the one obligatory amplifier question, and then proceed to ask him questions about Fear Factory, producing, and his new band Arkaea? Yes, yes I could. And so I did. Our conversation, after the jump.
So you’re in the studio recording with your band Arkaea. What’s the latest on that? I know you guys have some samples up on your Myspace. Where are you in the recording process? We’re in the studio right now, and I just started recording guitar. I’m like 2 songs deep. We just started tracking. We did all the drums already. We’re now tracking guitars. When the guitars are done, its bass and vocals. The record comes out March 10th of next year.
Oh cool, so you have a release date. Do you have a record label for it yet? Yeah, Koch Records.
So how did this band come together? I know you did some work with the guys in Threat Signal. Did it kind of come out of that? Partly, yeah. Raymond and I started writing for the next Fear Factory album. We noticed that the others weren’t ready to move ahead with that. Raymond and I were sitting with all this music that we had already started writing, and I wanted to get it on the shelf and make a record. So I was like 'well I always wanted to do a side project.' I did some songs in the past, but it never turned into a full length album. So this is really my first side thing. It doesn’t really feel like a side thing, it kind of feels like a real band that I definitely want to keep pursing and continuing. We just decided to do that, and we found someone who could do vocals. I didn’t have to look hard because I already had someone in mind which was Jon from Threat Signal. He fit in perfectly and recorded five songs with us. It was a good vibe, and he was down to play. He’s hungry and young and wants to go on tour. I decided to go with him, and then we got Pat who is also in Threat Signal. He was right there and seemed like the best choice after going through a couple of other people that didn’t seem like a good choice. We went with Pat, and it feels like a full lineup and band. It’s really good.
Do you approach the writing for this new project any differently than you would approach the writing for Fear Factory? You mentioned that some of the songs came about when you were initially writing for the next Fear Factory record. Yeah, I mean the way that Raymond and I approach writing songs has always been kind of the same. I felt that with the last Fear Factory there was a lot that I wanted to experiment with on the guitar but didn’t get the chance because the record had to be out so quickly. On this record I want to experiment more. With Jon coming in, it helped me open up a lot of riffs and parts guitar wise because he’s a different singer. He’s got a lot of top range. He’s up there range wise. You can hear him sing a Chris Cornell song with a lot of range. He helped me step outside of my box as a guitar player. I do a lot of other things in the band like play bass and producing and stuff like that. It’s nice to be able to expand on guitar and do things that I never really did in the past. So I am taking a different approach. In the beginning I wasn’t. I started taking a different approach as the band and the piece started coming together. I was like 'I don’t have to stick between these two lines. I can step outside of them and expand on things I usually don’t do.'
Would you say it’s a little more experimental than what you would do with Fear Factory? Yeah, definitely. Also I have been listening to a lot of other bands. Deftones have always been one of my favorite bands. They’ve always used a lot of different textures. Steph [Stephen Carpenter, Deftones guitarist] is a really close friend of mine, and he has rubbed off a lot on me because we’ve been hanging out for 15 years. We used to play a lot together in a band called Kush, and we have a lot of mutual respect for each other. When I listen to the songs and play them, I know that there are some influences from certain bands from when I was a kid. I would be like 'whoa, that’s something Andy Summers from the Police would do.' There are definitely a lot of different influences. There’s a Fear Factory influence of course. There are a lot of melodies and the vocalist has a lot of range.
Do you plan on taking this band out on the road? Yes, in February. We’re working on going on the road in February. We’ll try and do a U.S. tour and go to Europe later that year too and do some festival stuff. There are definitely touring plans.
Cool. As far as Fear Factory goes, you mentioned that the other guys were busy. Burton is doing his thing. Yep, and he’s a father too. He’s busy and doing his own thing. He went on tour with Ministry for a while. We’ll come together and figure it out and do a record. We also need to find a home for Fear Factory because we don’t have a record label. So there are a lot of things like that. We’ll all come together eventually.
So for the time being the focus is on this. You also seem to be doing a lot of producing lately. Is that something you are inclined to do as a full-time thing? Yeah. That’s right. I won’t do it for just anyone. I will find good opportunities and bands that I like.
Is that how the God Forbid thing came about? Yeah, because we are all in the same family [Fear Factory and God Forbid share a management company. -Ed.] They’re good friends, and it was just easy for them to come and do it out here. They’re a great band.
You were just doing the vocals on that record right? Yep. They recorded everything [else] on the East Coast.
How did it come out? I just got the record today. I have to download it from the server. I haven’t listened to it yet.
I understand that you have a new amplifier from Randall. How did that deal come about? Well, Jody Dankberg is one of the reps at Randall. He came from Krank. I was a Krank artist for a while because I was such good friends with him. Once he left Krank and went to Randall he told me that I should try some things out. He said that if I liked it that there was a home for me there. I had a lot of loyalty towards Jody so I was definitely willing to try Randall’s stuff. It’s a lot more reliable, and they have some other items that are really more functional for me like their power amps and pre-amps. There are some really cool people in the company. I met everyone, and I was just blown away. That’s how I moved forward. He was trying to bring a lot more signature stuff to the company. We got to talking and I ended up doing a signature head. That’s how all that came about.
Cool. Other than you doing the Arkaea record and Fear Factory who knows when, are there any plans to do anymore producing in the meantime or is Arkaea the focus for now? I think I’ll be working on the Threat Signal record after this, but this is pretty much the focus for right now. After this is done, I will be working on the Threat Signal album. There’s a record from Our Last Enemy, a band from Australia that I will be recording. They’ll be coming right there. There will be some tours coming up for sure once we’re done recording this album.
Cool man. I appreciate you taking the time out of your day. Thank you so much man. Anytime. -VN

Our Last Enemy will be stopping by 2rrr studios on monday night for The Dead End radio show on 88.5FM for a live interview about whats been happening in the 'Enemy camp, including relocating to L.A, the album with Christian Olde Wolbers from Fear Factory, and upcoming shows......CHECK IT OUT.... The Dead End 2rrr 88.5FM 10pm - 11pm, monday 8th of Dec
Below is a transcript of the interview Matt did for fasterlouder/metal as fuck, enjoy - O.L.E ************************************************************** fasterlouder.com.au/Metal As Fuck interview transcript: This week I somehow struck it lucky and scored the first ever interview for rapidly rising young local band Our Last Enemy. I chatted with Matt, the band's bassist. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Our Last Enemy, the band was formed in 2006, and plays a thrashy, groovy, industrial style of metal with gothic overtones. As happens in many cases, the formation came about after the disintegration of other bands. Matt, Jeff and John were in a band whose singer departed; and Oliver's band had just split as well, so they asked him to come on board. Jake joined a couple of years later, and the unit has been constant ever since. With five members, each with big personalities, Our Last Enemy maintains a particular style of working that ensures creative input from each member. Because of this, their method of writing is a fairly long process because of two elements: the first is that they never rush things; the second is that each band member comes up with ideas for tracks on his own instrument. 'We have a system where we'll give it a try no matter what it is, but if it doesn't work, we'll go back to the original idea,' Matt explained. 'But we also work democratically, in that if the majority rules we go with it. We try to make sure everyone feels like they're getting their creative juices out and try to accommodate everyone. It's a big democracy, really.' Our Last Enemy's first recording - their EP ...Is Death - was released on the internet for free download. It's a reasonably bold move, particularly given the fact that most bands still try to sell their early releases as much as they can, and get the word out via sales and reviews. The decision to do this came from a fairly hard-headed and realistic view of bands' debut releases, and the realistic notion that kids are already downloading music for free anyway. 'Well, we put it up there because a lot of kids download music for free anyway on different programs, and as a local band you don't make any money anyway,' Matt told me. 'We thought that it would be a good idea because, having toured up and down Australia a couple of times, it's a good way for people to hear our music without having to pay for it. It's not about making money or trying to get sales but just about people hearing the music.' When I spoke to Matt the band was recovering from a blistering three-states tour of Australia, down the east coast. 'Recovering' is quite literally the word: because they go so hard on stage, none of them got out of the tour without injuries. 'Oh dude, all of us have injuries at the moment!' he laughed. 'Jeff fractured one of his fingers, Ollie cut his head open on my bass, I cut my fingers open on my strings and have to go to a chiro because I twisted my pelvis, and John's keyboard fell on his foot. We put on a big show physically, but by the end of it we're all pretty hurt; we've all been to chiropractors and massage therapists to get the knots out!' While it might seem a bit gratuitous for a band to go to such lengths to put on a series of shows, for Our Last Enemy it's more about physically expressing the music. 'If we're playing this heavy music, we wanna be showing that, theatrically, we're as brutal as our music,' Matt explained about the process. 'We don't like seeing bands that play this brutal music that doesn't seem to affect them - but when we play, we mean it.' After he said this, he came up with an analogy for the way it is. 'Some bands look like sheep in wolves' clothing; we're the wolves in wolves' clothing'. I wondered aloud to Matt if that could get out of hand, when they go so hard from a tour they are injured to the point of needing intervention. 'We're young, we can handle it,' Matt laughed. 'It's cool. The best thing is that people who come and watch the show, they kinda like it when you hurt yourself.' It's been a huge year of firsts for Our Last Enemy; not only have they released their debut EP, but they also brought a publicist on board; they have been signed to local metal label Riot!Entertainment very recently - like, within the last couple of weeks; they are heading to Los Angeles to record their debut release with Christian Olde Wolbers, of Fear Factory fame, in the next month or so; and will be the first band to write an exclusive tour diary for the little-heard-about, but soon to be released, online metal zine, Metal As Fuck. All of this means that those of us who aren't on the east coast are going to have to wait a little bit longer to see these guys hit our stages. Their signing to Riot! happened very soon after Our Last Enemy started working with their publicist, and the rate at which things have been happening for the band has blown these guys away. 'Someone must've been listening!' laughed Matt. 'We've been looking for a label here in Australia to put the album out. The way it happened was that our publicist presented our stuff to the guys at Riot! and not long after that John rang her and said he'd like us on board.' Being signed to Riot! hasn't really changed the way that the band perceives things for themselves, but this is primarily because everything has been moving so quickly for them. They haven't even really had a chance just to get together and debrief over a drink. 'We've tried to organise a band night to go out and celebrate, but we haven't had time,' Matt reflected. 'We've got four weeks until we go to LA; we have thirteen songs demoed, with pre-production done, and have another five on the burner that we want to get ready for LA as well. So we really haven't had time to reflect on anything. It'll hit us soon; but it hasn't really changed the way we think about ourselves or the industry.' It's a big deal in anybody's book to score an invitation from Christian to head over to LA to record a debut album. Being curious as to how this came about, I asked Matt for the story. It turns out that this one exciting event comes down to an email that Matt sent to Christian one night. 'I sent Christian an email and didn't think anything of it. In the email, from what I can remember, I did the whole self-promotion thing, that I'm in a band from Australia called Our Last Enemy, and wondering if you'd be interested in having a look at our stuff,' Matt recalled. 'We didn't hear anything for months, and thought that he probably didn't even read it. Until one night Oliver rang me and said, 'guess who just wrote back to us saying do you guys wanna come over and record an album or a demo'. We went 'whoa!'' he laughed. 'He gave us his manager's email and told us to talk with her. So in talking with her we found out the budget for what it would be and realised that it was something we could do.' The band is totally pumped that Christian was interested in them enough to check out their material, but are also humbled by it at the same time. 'He's quite a busy guy - we're just really humbled that he took time to check us out.' Which is really only half the story. For the four - six weeks that Our Last Enemy will be in Los Angeles, they'll be living at Christian's house: something he offered them in order to save them money. In the interim, through talking with Christian's manager, Christy Priske of Archetype Management, the band have also discovered that she is keen to take their material and shop it around in the US. This is more of a big deal than it seems, because Archetype deal with bands like Fear Factory and God Forbid, and it's a great doorway into the US market. It's during the time that these guys will be overseas that they'll be writing their exclusive diary for Australia's newest metal mag, the upcoming Metal as Fuck online zine. Even though the zine isn't up yet - it won't appear until early 2009 - I asked Matt for a sneak-peek into what we can expect when the diary does go live. 'We're just going to write it as it happens,' he said. 'But we're going to try and aim it to two types of people: people who don't really understand the production side of music but who want to know what's going on, and people who are into production and recording. We're going to try and keep people involved.' Given that the band has done so much, and that they've had such a positive run, I asked Matt before he had to go whether there were many benefits stemming from the fact that they've had a publicist on board. 'Yeah, one of the benefits is that they just specialise in their field,' he enthused. 'That's one thing. I mean, as a band we're concentrating on writing these songs and getting them ready, and doing shows, and it's hard for a band to be doing everything at once. It's hard enough to find all the contacts and to find the time to do that,' he explained. 'Getting a publicist was high on our agenda. We knew we had a big product coming through and knew we had to hit it the right way. I recommend it if there is any local band that's going to do something big - if you don't have something big to publicise, they won't do it - then get someone who knows what they're talking about to do it for you.' Our Last Enemy is happy to announce that they are now working exclusively with world renowned metal P.R company Kelli Wright Publicity.
This is a great honor, being the company’s only Australian client taken onboard at this point in time.
Kelli and her team were the bands top choice from day one.
They will be taking care of promoting the Cross Boarder Contamination tour, the move to the U.S, and being the first Australian artist to record with Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory (God Forbid, Mnemic, Fear Factory, Bleed The Sky) as well as general media relations.
With Kelli Wright PR already having worked with archetype management in the past, it seemed like a perfect choice.
With a few other coincidences popping up, there’s an aura of fate surrounding the match up, as is often the case with OLE and its choices.
Kelli and her team have already been hard at work, and things are just warming up.
Keep checking back for major updates to this site over the next few weeks, and see you at a show!
For all media/interviews/press please contact Kelli Wright at info@kelliwrightpublicity.com

Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, In January '09 Our Last Enemy will be heading off to The City of Angels (Los Angeles) to record their as yet untitled debut album with renowned industrial metal producer Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory, Threat Signal, Mnemic, Bleed The Sky, God Forbid).
After gaining rave reviews all over Australia, the band has pricked the ears of the Fear Factory guitarist and will be locked down in his LA studio for most of January 09.
The Band has been in talks with Christian and his management for some time now, organizing the production of the album and other legalities, and we apologise to the people that wanted to know sooner! This is/was the reason for us cutting down on shows as we have been 100% focused on this album.
We have heard all the rumors - from the band breaking up, to being signed to a certain metal label.
But we can assure everyone we a far from breaking up and we haven’t signed anything.... yet.
We have already spent countless hours in the studio on pre production, and in the rehearsal room writing, meeting with solicitors and our P.R team to make this as good an album as we possibly can.
We will be in L.A for a month, recording and mixing at the Fear Factory studios and hopefully squeezing in a few shows once we have put everything down.
We have organized our next run of tour dates - The Cross Border Contamination Tour, with a few fucking awesome bands that we know and are friends with - 5 Star Prison Cell, Voltera, Daysend, Face of Mutiny, Devilution, and many more who will join us along the way. Check the shows section for updates, gigs all through October/November.
SEE YOU AT A SHOW!!!!!!
