Current mood:  breezy
Hey, everyone! It's been a while! Hope you're doing well and enjoying the first blush of spring.

I'm
psyched to report that The Hidden Mitten is having our one and only
spring show -- indeed, the Second Annual Spring Sock Hop! -- on Saturday, April 4, at the Empty Bottle.
It should be quite the cathartic, over-the-top blast, as we haven't
played since December and will be taking a brief break afterward
because my baby is April 30. Please join us!

I'll repeat so you can mark your calendars:

SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 2009 @ EMPTY BOTTLE
THE HIDDEN MITTEN'S 2ND ANNUAL SPRING SOCK HOP
FEATURING ME: NINE MONTHS PREGNANT!
Presented by the badass Chicago Independent Radio Project
Prizes for coolest socks and funkiest dance moves!

Spread
the word and bring you friends! It shall be a party! Plus the money we
make will help us put the finishing touches on our new EP, which
includes fan favorite songs "We Can Feel You," "Turn Around,"
"Desdemona," and more! :)

LOVE & GUITARS,
Erin

Hi, Mitten friends! I'll be back shortly with big news about our next show. But first! In case you missed it, there's a 5-part studio diary on my personal blog for your reading pleasure. The Hidden Mitten was at Strobe in December to work on our next EP. Hell yeah! Can't wait to share it with you.

The diary starts HERE with part one.

LOVE & GUITARS,
Erin

Thanks to everyone who made our first (annual!) sock hop worthy of the awesome socks and awesome bands we saw and heard on Thursday. I'm still recovering. Until I find the energy for a proper recap, you may enjoy a few pics and Thax Douglas's latest poem about the Hidden Mitten. If you took photos, send 'em on! And also check Thax's page for his poem about fellow sock hoppers Cameron McGill & What Army. Until next time . . .

LOVE & GUITARS,
Erin

P.S. -- Next time is Saturday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at Permanent Records on Chicago Ave. We're doing a not-to-be-missed in-store show with the one and only Unicycle Loves You. Come buy "Roma, Roma" before we run out -- thus helping us fund a session recording new songs like "We Can Feel You" and "Turn Around." XOXO

From the Reader: You gotta love these guys. No, seriously, you gotta, or they might show up at your house in their 70s-prom duds and bounce up and down on your bed until you agree that you really, really do. Admittedly their heart-of-gold-foil schlockabilly is pretty lovable: Take the single "Pizza Party," which is like Black Flag's "TV Party" if that song had been backhandedly sincere instead of just backhanded. The Last Slice, their new EP, includes "Summer of Fun," which sounds like Iggy meets Jan & Dean, and the goofy romance "Come Into the Hot Tub With Me." The Limelites also do covers. And weddings. Alleged singer Johnny Agatucci hasn't made a single gig so far—I'm starting to doubt he exists—but Brian Costello (who also hosts his own live-action talk show) is doing fine filling in. The Black Bear Combo headlines tonight's show, billed as the Hidden Mitten's First Annual Spring Sock Hop; Johnny & the Limelites, the Hidden Mitten, Cameron McGill & What Army, and Big Science open. 8 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, 773-276-3600 or 866-468-3401, $8.

Current mood:  aroused
Hi, Mitten friends! Are you ready for our newest, coolest, soon-to-be-an-institution creation? It's exactly three weeks away, so mark your calendars and start spreading the word!

8 p.m. Thursday, May 8 @ the Empty Bottle:

The Hidden Mitten's 1st Annual Spring Sock Hop! starring . . .
Black Bear Combo
Johnny & the Limelites
The Hidden Mitten
Cameron McGill & What Army
Big Science

Open Books will be there with an optional "shoe check" and prizes for coolest socks and best old-school dance moves. The Chicago Indie Radio Project (CHIRP) is also presenting and will be on hand with the latest news on their badass efforts to bring indie radio to Chicago and the world. Woo!

For this show, I really wanted to try something different to shake me out of my winter blahs. I needed to expand my musical horizons. So I asked for advice from some of my favorite big players in the Chicago scene.

Hence, the lineup have you thrilled and enchanted, sweating and drooling, on May 8 -- everything from a punk rock marching band that blew everyone away at the CHIRP record fair last weekend to a red-tuxedo-wearing James Brown-meets-indie-rock band that blew me away at a Victim of Time show to a touring singer/songwriter with string instruments, accordian, and pots and pans. And that's not to mention the post-punk/new wave of "next big thing" Big Science and, of course, your friendly sock hop curators, The Hidden Mitten. I seriously cannot wait!

Special thanks and love go to Evan from Bound Stems for bringing Big Science and Cameron McGill & What Army to my attention. Cameron and his army are on tour and just stopping home in Chicago for the night -- let's show them a warm hometown welcome! -- and Evan says to expect a "big 'un" from Big Science. Don't know what that means, except that you don't want to be late on May 8! Show starts at 8.

I'll greatly appreciate your help spreading the word! We all endured a shitty winter, and now spring is here and it's time to celebrate. WOOHOO!

LOVE & GUITARS,
Erin

In addition to some very exciting gigs coming up of which we will speak at a later date (hint hint) I’ve decided to put up another have-realized monstrosity of a song that we really love and started playing live. ENJOY!
