MPLSound

(There'll Never B) another Like Me: ** 1/2
- Decent funky jam. Maybe not that memorable of a track, but its definitely funky

Chocolate Box: ****
- Contagious! After finally hearing the full version of this song... I can say with all honesty, this is the funkiest Jam in a decade. Q-Tips contribution fits in flawlessly. And the preview of the video looks absolutely hot. I hope for some remixes on a single release. (still pissed the whole vid wasn't up yet)

Dance 4 Me *****
- I thought the last track was the funkiest... but then came Dance 4 Me. The best one two punch of funk since.... ohhh hell.. I can't remember that long. This shit is the bomb!

U're Gonna C Me ***
- After the funky buildup of the first three cuts... this ballad was well placed... because I was so pumped a heart attack was imenent. Smooth mid tempo ballad. Nothing particularly intoxicating...but it is satisfying.

Here *** 1/2
- Continuing with the mid tempo romantic groove set up from the previous track... Here hits me right here. I love the lyrics and melody.

Valentina **** 1/2
- I'm trying not to sound all frantic... but damnit this cut rocks... who would have thunk it..?

Better With Time ***
- A true ballad. Prince continues to prove he can always make a quality slow jam. This is a serious grower.

Ol' Skool Company *** 1/2
- This funky track just has... swagger.

No More Candy 4 U ****
- Just cray Prince telling off everybody the best way he knows how. And yes.. it too is funky.

OVERALL.... 4 out of 5 stars.
This is one of the best albums Prince has produced in a very long time. The weakest track is the lead track... after that it just gets better. Of course among long time Prince fans.. there will be much controversy over this album. All I got to say is... funk all the haterz! This is what the funk we have been waiting for since forever. Some times we just want some pure unapologetic funk to groove to and this album delivers in spades.

Ley me qualify first. I wm a webmaster. I have owned my own webspace
and domain for quite some time now. So I'm not as critical on the tech
issues because I've experienced them.. I've seen them... I know how
that goes.

In fact a lot of peeps should have had issues in the past when HQ
or the Org would get a sudden rush of people logging on and you
couldn't access the site for awhile. ie Shit happens.

The Positives

- The three albums as promised... Both Prince albums included a track not available on thhe Target CD release.

- Nice look... if you liked the album covers then you'ld like the look of the site

- HQ video and music. (the choppiness was caused mainly by the rush of people online)... but they are HQ quality.. trust me

- The vids up include 'The Sacrifice of Victor' (43 min),
Caochella's 'Shhh' and 'Creep'... a few performances on Leno such as
'Turn Me Loose' and 'Guitar'...some of his classic vids like 'Sign O
The Times' and 'Alphabet Street' among several others.

- Ability to purchase Tickets (for the LA shows for now)

The Negatives

- They should have expected the surge they got. I know that's a
server side problem they may not have had any control over... but
still. This caused many problems ranging from slow prorogation over the
net, trouble with trying to DL the albums initially, a lot of dragging,
information such as membership purchases not going through properly,
etc

- Bria's video was up in its entirety... but as of now...
Chocolate Box and Crimson & Clover were both 'SNEAK
PEAKS'.....WTF!!!!!

- I'm a video game person and am familiar with flash sites like
this so I had no problem figuring out how to sign up or find the
content.... but I know many did.

Now that pissed me off. I'm a video lover and although I got
hold...umm... watched some vids never before seen... I really expected
those two to be up as promised.

Over all... was the $77 worth it.... hmmm... for me yes. As I'm a
person who is looking at it in terms of 'the year'... not just 'today'
Today I got enough to tide me over for awhile. I want my two new
videos.. but I'm happy with the new and HQ versions of the older and
bootleg stuff I got.

Now I have to go listening to the albums. I'll review them tomorrow on my Myspace blog in proper fashion as I have the last few
albums.

And of course for the fans/fam who couldn't get in.... by the weekend I should have a few treats up on the page.

Yall LA mofos must be lame!!!!  No way this happens in Chi-town.

Apparently for one reason or another... yall just didn't show the love for the Purple guy in Hollywood Sunday night.

Prince's Oscar After Party failed to sell out.   Not like it was a 75,000 seat arena or the tickets were a thousand dollars.  But a small venue concert/party with room for 500 fans... at $100 per failed to sell out!

Come on LA... where the fuck were yall????

Honestly... I do have my speculations about what happened and will post later.  But for now yall deserve the 'mean mugg'

I just really want to know who didn't go and why?

And if you did you ... did you enjoy yourself?

Rockin' the limo, boudoir ballads, Prop. 8, Barry White, sex, faith, Pro Tools. Was it a dream?

It was 11 p.m. on the night before New Year's Eve, and I was doing something I hadn't expected would crown my 2008: sitting in Prince's limousine as the legend lounged beside me, playing unreleased tracks on the stereo. "This is my car for Minneapolis," he said before excusing himself to let me judge a few songs in private. "It's great for listening to music." He laughed. "I don't do drugs or I'd give you a joint. That's what this record is."

That morning I'd received an e-mail inviting me to preview new music at Prince's mansion in the celebrity-infested estate community of Beverly Park, where he's currently keeping his shoe rack. The summons wasn't entirely unexpected. Prince, who's less reclusive than his reputation would indicate, has spent a year and a half consulting with culture industry leaders and occasionally entertaining media types, with an eye toward taking complete control of his own musical output.

His new mantra is "The gatekeepers must change," and he's refashioned his career to become one of them.

Since beginning his gradual relocation from the Midwest to the Left Coast, Prince has headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and 2007's Super Bowl halftime show. He sold out a 21-night run at London's O2 Arena and released an album, a high-end photo book and a perfume. Most recently, he's whetted fans' appetites with sneaks of songs from three upcoming releases, first on the popular "Jonesy's Jukebox" radio program on Indie 103 and then on two websites, the now-dark MPLSound.com and the still-evolving Lotusflow3r.com.

This flurry of activity has been characterized by what might be called methodical spontaneity. Everything happens quickly, whether it's a show that takes place only a few days after its announcement or an evening interview arranged that morning. But Prince's personality seems to be governed by two oppositional impulses: the hunger to create and an equally powerful craving for control. Intense productivity battles with meticulousness within his working process. Others might not anticipate his next move, but it is all part of the chess game for him.

That's why I was there, on the eve of a holiday eve, as the mainstream music industry was enjoying a break from its ongoing plunge toward insolvency. The turn of the year is a slow time for pop, not the moment blockbuster artists usually release material. But Prince has been hinting for a while that his upcoming recordings might not be tied to a conventional label. Abandoning that machine, including its publicity arm, requires other ways of getting the word out.

Prince began experimenting with new methods of distributing music more than a decade ago, and his early efforts with the now-defunct NPG Music Club paved the way for later bold moves by Radiohead and others. Most recently he's partnered with major labels to get copies into stores. Columbia handled the release of 2006's "Planet Earth," except in Britain, where copies were distributed free via a London newspaper, the Mail on Sunday.

Now Prince is about to unleash not one but three albums without major label affiliation, and talking to well-vetted writers is one part of the rollout. How well vetted? "You're blond," he said when we met. "I thought you were a redhead." (He'd done his research; I'd changed my hair color only the year before.)

When I entered the house, which has the vaguely European opulence of an upscale spa, I found Prince with designers Anthony Malzone and Scott Addison Clay, examining mock-ups for a "highly interactive" website. "It's a universe," said Malzone, showing how a mouse click could make the whole screen rotate. "There's a lyric in one of the new songs about an 'entirely new galaxy.' We took that cue, and from there on, we thought that everything would emanate from Prince."

The website, still under construction, revealed the recognizable logo of a major big-box retailer with whom Prince is finalizing negotiations to distribute the albums. The three will hit the Web and that retailer, the artist said, "as soon as the holidays are over."

I'd be hearing music from each of them.

"Let's go to my car," Prince said. "We'll listen to the first album there."

Religious perspective

Entering his garage, he ushered me into a low-slung black sports car that he's apparently named after his late friend Miles Davis. I strapped on my seat belt, but we didn't venture outside. Instead, Prince turned serious as he brought up a recent New Yorker article that had spun beyond his famously controlling grip.

"I want to talk about that interview," he said, gazing seriously over the steering wheel before turning on the music. He'd felt the writer had taken certain remarks he'd made -- particularly one about gay marriage that implied he was against it -- out of context. (The New Yorker stands by the story.)

"They try to take my faith. . . ." he said, his voice trailing off. "I'm a Jehovah's Witness. I'm trying to learn the Bible. It's a history book, a science book, a guidebook. It's all the same."

Prince's understanding of religion requires him to avoid political stands, including those that concern morality. "I have friends that are gay, and we study the Bible together," he said. He did not vote for Proposition 8, the referendum to make gay marriage illegal. "I don't vote," he said. "I didn't vote for Barack [Obama], either; I've never voted. Jehovah's Witnesses haven't voted for their whole inception."

Prince, who became a Jehovah's Witness in 2001 under the guidance of veteran bassist and songwriter Larry Graham, views everything through the lens of his religion. No topic -- sexuality, civil rights, his disdain for corporate pop -- comes up in which it doesn't play a role. Recounting a recent meeting with Earth, Wind and Fire singer Philip Bailey, for example, he commented that that group's penchant for Afrocentric garb revealed a lost history similar to the one uncovered in the Jehovah's Witnesses' version of the Bible.

Prince's statements can sound extreme to a secular listener. Some have accused him of trying to conceal his views to avoid alienating nonbelieving (and, particularly, gay) fans. But his desire to be tolerant seems sincere. His favorite television show, for example, is "Real Time With Bill Maher." Asked if the comedian's confrontational atheism bothers him, he harrumphed. "That's cool," said Prince. "He can be what he wants. I like arguments. Somebody saying I'm a terrible guitar player feeds me."

Prince's faith fulfills a yearning that his songs expressed long before he became devout: a need for some kind of ruling theory to explain the sorrow and violence that intertwines with life's joy. Songs as early as 1981's "Controversy" focus on a quest for God, and his catalog overflows with complex number and color systems, prophetic statements and disquiet about the fallen state of humanity. In his religion, he's found a code as inexhaustible as the one he was previously generating himself.

Which leads back to "MPLSound," the album Prince recorded by himself at Paisley Park studios mostly last year. "People ask me, 'Why don't you sound like you used to?' " he said by way of introduction. "But that music doesn't have any wave energy to it. It'll move a party, but that's not what I'm doing here."

These tracks did sound new in some ways: electronica-based, futuristic and subtly mind-altering. They also harked back to early Prince, including touchstones like "When Doves Cry" and "The Black Album." Some, like one about a "funky congregation," could become live show pieces. Others, like the playful "Hey Valentina," inspired by his friend Salma Hayek's baby, and the Space Age ballad "Better With Time" -- dedicated to another actress pal, Kristin Scott Thomas, who costarred in Prince's 1986 film, "Under the Cherry Moon" -- contained sounds that didn't seem possible to replicate anywhere but in Prince's imagination.

The key to this particular aural universe, it turns out, is the ubiquitous computer platform Pro Tools. Prince avoided the system for years. One thing he's truly moralistic about is the use of artificial vocal enhancement by subpar artists, which in his view has reduced mainstream pop to a "weak diet" of sugary junk. Yet he's unlocked new elements within the very control surfaces Pro Tools employs. Using both analog equipment and digital technology, Prince has come closer to the body-altering music he wishes to make.

"I'm interested in the inner workings of music, the effect on the body," he explained. "I'm trying to understand why we respond to beats differently." His former associate, the producer Terry Lewis, helped him realize Pro Tools might help. "Terry talked me into it. He said, 'Don't think of it as a digital machine,' " said Prince. " 'Don't play by its rules.' I just took it and started flipping things."

As the music played, Prince singled out a few lyrics. "The songs we sing lift us up to heaven," he said as a song espousing "old-school ways" played. "This one's about Babylonian tricks." Then the music ended, and we moved on to the next offering -- one that took us into Prince's bedroom.

Celebrating pleasure

Before the New Yorker piece, the biggest question about Prince's spiritual conversion concerned its effect on his own sexual expressiveness. No one in pop has written more powerfully about the transformative power of sex. His sometimes perverse, often humorous fairy tales opened up worlds of pleasure and possibility to listeners. After finding Jehovah, however, fans worried that he would denounce his most fruitful subject matter.

But a really powerful code can unlock anything. "I've studied Solomon and David now," Prince said, referring to two famous Old Testament lovemen. "[In biblical times] sex was always beautiful. You come to understand that, and then you try to find a woman who can experience that with you."

Songs on all three of Prince's new projects celebrate carnal pleasures, but the album he played in his white-carpeted bedroom explores the topic from top to bottom. It's "Elixir," the debut of Bria Valente, Prince's latest protégée. Valente grew up in Minneapolis and attended parties at Paisley Park as a teen, but she registered on Prince's radar in Los Angeles. A tall brunet with a smooth, delicate voice -- "she knows how to use her breath like I do on my falsetto, to make it glide over the track," he said -- she is Prince's collaborator, along with keyboardist Morris Hayes, in reviving the quiet storm sound.

"This might be my favorite," he said, playing a steamy ballad. "Remember those old Barry White records? A whole lot of people are gonna get pregnant off of this! I gotta call her." With that, he left me to contemplate Valente's "chill" songs, the heart-shaped mirror over his round bed and the large Bible on the nightstand.

It never became clear whether Valente is Prince's partner in more than an artistic way. Since meeting him, she has become a Jehovah's Witness. She lives just down the hill from Beverly Park, and later in the evening, she joined us at a nearby nightclub -- she's a friendly young woman who held her own in conversation with the superstar directing her career.

At the club, Prince carefully sat me between himself and Valente, only touching her once, when he gestured for her to accompany him to the front of the club to check out the noisy blues band rocking the crowd. Later, she laughed when he sneaked away to play a quick keyboard solo with the band. "He's like Velcro," she said. "Stuck to the stage."

Beautiful women always have been important in Prince's life, both as musical collaborators and as prominently displayed companions. He has been married twice, separating from his second wife, Manuela Testolini, in 2006. Now he carries himself with the exacting self-sufficiency of a middle-aged bachelor. Often citing famous beauties as close friends, he never mentioned a sexual conquest.

Whether or not he needs a day-to-day companion right now, Prince does seem to require a muse. Valente's project has allowed him to make more openly sensual music than anything else he's re- cently produced. He even took the high-fashion-style photographs that will adorn the CD booklet.

As her album played, he spoke of other female musicians he currently admires. "Have you heard Janelle Monae?" he asked. "She is so smart. How about Sia, do you like her?" The jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding was due to spend a few days with him later in the week. The names of previous collaborators peppered his conversation: the singers Tamar Davis and Shelby J., his old companions Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman.

For now, Valente is the conduit for Prince's female energy. Her music sounds contemporary but also connects to earlier Prince protégés like the Family and Taja Sevelle. Though he was quick to praise her songwriting abilities (and to point out that he helped her cement a good publishing deal), he spoke about her songs as they played, almost as if they were his own.

"The art of making records, I give it so much respect," he said as the album's final track, a New Age-flavored set piece about Valente's baptism, concluded. "But it gets trampled on for the sake of commerciality."

He led me back into the hallway. "Let's get in the limo to listen to the last one," he said.

An album's range

"Lotus Flow3r" will likely be greeted by Prince fans and the general public as the central product of his latest creative spurt. It's a full band album with a sound that ranges from cocktail jazz to heavy rock. The first track included the lyric his Web designer had mentioned about the expanding universe, while subsequent ones referred to traveling to other dimensions and transcending race.

Directing his driver to take us for a spin after leaving to change from black loungewear into a red suit, Prince explained that "Lotus Flow3r" began to emerge during the sessions for his 2006 album, "3121." Prince selected the best of his massive output for this release, delaying its finish until he was sure every element hung together.

"The thing that unites these songs is the guitar," he said. He'd fallen back in love with the instrument after playing in Davis' backup band during a 2006 tour. He singled out a vampy solo in the samba-influenced "Love Like Jazz." "When we do this live, that's going to go on forever," he said with a grin.

Positioning "Lotus Flow3r" as a rock record is a canny marketing move, given urban radio's current focus on hip-hop-defined samples and beats. This music sounds more organic, meant to be played live, and Prince is trying out players for a new band, ones who'll be able to grasp the tricky changes in the new songs. He makes decisions, he said, by "listening to the universe. If a name is mentioned to me three times, I know I need to check it out."

Whatever band he assembles will have to be able to leap from the light-stepping funk of the song simply titled "$," about "the most popular girl in the whole wide world," to the soul jazz of "77 Beverly Place," to the heavy-metal thunder of the album's title track. That song references both Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendrix, but asked about the influence of the latter rock god, Prince demurred. "I try to play guitar like singers I like," he said, later adding, "Don't you think journalists can be lazy, I mean, when they make comparisons?"

He delivered this criticism in a kind tone. Talk turned to the Internet and the need for musicians to claim a niche. "My audience is really big, though," he said. "And they're really easy to reach online. Everything has gone viral."

He continues to be firm on copyright issues -- "I made it," is his simple response to those who call him a hypocrite for restricting his material online even as he uses the Web for his own purposes -- but seems fairly open to trying new ways to promote his avalanche of music. "You can put in that I'd like to play the Troubadour," he said, though he hasn't made any arrangements for local club dates.

As the night wore to an end, the conversation turned free form, touching on topics ranging from Edie Sedgwick (he saw "Factory Girl") to Ani DiFranco (he loves her) to his favorite guitar (the blue and white Stratocaster he played during the Super Bowl, named "Sonny" after an early mentor). And then the limo pulled into the driveway.

He hugged me goodnight, and I got into my mud-stained Mazda Protege. Hugging the road down Mulholland Drive, I asked myself, "Did that really happen?" So many moments would seem fantastic in the retelling.

But then, as Beverly Hills became the Valley, I realized how carefully executed this visit had been. Each listening environment had been ideal: the close confinement of the sports car for the intense "MPLSound," the boudoir for "Elixir" and the classic rock star ride for the far-reaching "Lotus Flow3r." And though Prince had been open about many things, he's also an expert at wielding the phrase "off the record."

What I'd experienced was like a dream -- a dream Prince had designed just for me. Which is what he's been doing for his fans for 30 years.

Category: News and Politics

During the debate, there were a couple of major points concerning attitude which really struck a nerve with me.  One of course refers to the title of this blog.  I have heard McCain use this reference to Sen. Obama in context of rally points during his campaigning.  But to actually in Obama's face point the finger and go 'That One'.... was very disrespectful and further painted a picture of who McCain truly is… an out of touch bitter old man.

If this was an isolated incident... not much would be made of it.  But after the last debate in which he sat there looking grumpy... never engaging Obama in dialogue or even acknowledging Obama with as much as a respectful glance... what other explanation could you come up with other than a grumpy old man with a disdain in stead of mutual respect for Obama.

The comment I found to be the most condescending, however, happened early in the debate.  It was when McCain 'assumed' that the 'black' gentleman who asked the question about the recent bail out plan had never heard of Fannie May or Freddie Mac.  Whether there were racial undertones in that assumption or not isn't really the point... it was still short minded of him to assume that an average American citizen who just asked the question concerning the bail out plan... i.e. concerning Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, wouldn't know who they were.

Obama on the other hand did what he has been doing when ever asked... he actually answered the question.

McCain has no respect for the intelligence of the average American.  The most blatant proof is his pit bull with lipstick he's trying to pass off as VP material.

I wanted to post a few truths and mistruths which were spoke about in the debate.  These can be researched.  I sourced MSNBC and the Associated Press for most of this info and direct quotes.

the first was a small one... but still shows you the type of thinking McCain has.  He said Obama supported a congressional earmark of $3 million for an overhead projector at a planetarium in Chicago, Ill.... "do we need to spend that kind of money?" is what he said.

Well the truth is the money was for an overhaul of the theater system, which projects images of stars and planets for educational shows at Chicago's Adler Planetarium... a Landmark Museum. When Obama announced the $3 million earmark last year, Obama said the planetarium's 40-year-old projection system "has begun to fail, leaving the theater dark and groups of school students and other interested museum-goers without this very valuable and exciting learning experience."

Note that one tank. which may be very helpful in the War in Iraq can carry an initial cost over $4 million... with hundreds of thousands to millions more in upkeep, repair and operating cost. McCain has no issues with that spending... but has problems with an education tool which services thousands of children and families every year.

Healthcare is a major concern for me... not only am I very dependant on it... but I have several children as well.  So thinking about how we are going to be able to afford quality health care is a priority.

McCain said he would provide a $5,000 refundable tax credit for families to buy health insurance "rather than mandates or fines for small businesses as Senator Obama's plan calls for."

The truth is Obama's health care plan does not impose mandates or fines on small business. He would provide small businesses with a refundable tax credit of up to 50 percent on health premiums paid on behalf of their employees. Also, large employers that do not offer meaningful coverage or contribute to the cost of coverage would be required to pay a percentage of payroll toward the costs of a public insurance plan. But small businesses would be exempt from that requirement.

This is in contrast to what McCain has suggested.

While McCain's plan offers families a $5,000 tax credit to help them buy health insurance. The corresponding increase in taxable wages would result in a much smaller cost than the value of the tax credit, at least at first. Over time, however, the value of the tax credit may diminish as premiums rise. However, the Tax Policy Center estimates that McCain's plan would increase the federal deficit by $1.3 trillion over 10 years mainly because it would lead to less tax revenue coming in.

Another point on healthcare is that McCain wants to 'deregulate' it.  Isn't deregulation what got the economy in trouble now...?

Setting up a system in which Insurance companies will compete for customers in a deregulated environment is dangerous.  Obama didn't have to say what I believed the primary problem would be.  As it is in other industries... the cost may seam to go down.... but they are made up by eliminating critical elements of coverage.  With out regulations to guarantee what is covered... many people would think they have good insurance... until it comes time to pay for a service they don't cover.  Sure you can gp get new coverage eventually... but it would do you no good while you are sick now.

But listen to McCain and Obama about there fundamental beliefs about Health care... when asked, "Is health care in America a privilege, a right, or a responsibility?"

McCain's answer was 'responsibility'... Obama's… a 'right'.

That alone tells you at the core of McCain's beliefs is 'every man for himself'.  If you don't have adequate Healthcare... it's your responsibility to get it.  Of course since he doesn't want to regulate it... he's leaving the citizens to the mercy of big business sharks.

Obama's message is about a country that takes care of its people... it is your right as a citizen to have your medical needs met... regardless of whether you are capable or incapable of doing it yourself.

Think people please.

This one or THAT ONE...  there is only one answer.  and looking at the current administration as a guideline... an administration whose policies McCain has supported 90% pf the time....

It certainly ain't THIS.

Do you see any difference in these pictures?

There really isn't much difference is there...?

Racism is not limited to just one form.  It can be a defining characteristic of an individual or a nation.  It can be a word, an image or a gesture with harmless intent but none the less with racist under tones.  Which brings me to the published image of the Spanish Olympic Basketball Team making slant eye gestures while the games are being held in China.

Questions have been raised concerning reactions over the image.  The most curious one actually questions why are people offended...?  Because in view of some... there is nothing racist about the image.  Its just an attempt at humor or it's being viewed out of context.  If I've learned one thing through the years on the internet... it is how differently my customs, morals and values as an African-American citizen can differ from people of other races and nationalities.  Certain beliefs and ways of thinking which are common place in my society... just isn't the same elsewhere.  But there are still many common bonds which unite us throughout the world and one of which is typically intolerance of racism.

As measured by American standards... this is a racist image,  It does not mean that the people who are in it are racist or that the country of Spain is racist on a whole... but this team is a representative of the best of Spain.  As representatives they carry a certain burden on thier shoulders... and one of those burdens is how the Spanish will be percieved through thier actions.  It paints a picture of Spain being at the least racially insensitive.

There are several sources which would comfirm and possibly better explain to those whom would challenge this notion why we as Americans and those of like mind would call the Spanish picture racist.  The United States of America has a 'not so proud' history of open racism which was enforced by government policy and instilled into private sectors of American society.  From this was born a high level of racial sensitivity as the country eventually took actions to do away with racism, in all of its forms.  Racism, unfortunatelty still exist in America... but now-a-days it is viewed as part of a degenerate sub culture and propogated by small specific groups and individuals.  Of course there is a often a problem identiying those who are still racist and how they influence the society because many keep thier beliefs hidden as they wish to aviud a form of prejudice against themselves and thheir racist beleifs.

Sources of negative stereotypes relevant to the Spanish image derive from various early American media including he cinema and politiical cartoons.  Images of Chinese with slanted eyes, buck teeth and coke bottle glasses were common place.  In cinema those images combiuined with over the top accents and behavior painted a very offensive picture.  These images were not unlike another more notorious form of cinematic and political stereotyping known as 'black-face'... a stab at African-Americans.  But these were not the only ethnic groups in America to be potrayed negatively.  Others negative stereotypes took stabs at Native American Indians, Jews, Mexicans and people of Arabic decent among others.

However as the nation has tried to mature and enforce 'civil rights' these images are no longer common place, but as I said... the racial sensitiviity born from them is now pat of our culture.

Which bring me to these statements.  I've noticed that many people from other cultures around the globe speak of American society as if they 'know' American society... but don't realize that they more often than not... are basing thier views off of propogated 'stereotype' themselves.  If they truly knew our society... they would have no question as to why we would find the Spanish Basketball team's slant-eye gesture offensive and racist.  But the most ironic part about this situation is that if this were the American team which had done this action... the international outrage would have been phenominal to say the least.  Many other nations are quick to denounce the American government and its values... but will not hesitate to hold us accountable vs. our own values which they too often claim not to share.  It is a double standard that Americans actually don't mind to much.  Because hey we know the real deal.

They can always put us down... but they are always trying to come live here, always duplicating our culture, enjoying the fruits of our creativity and while thhey always condemn of for 'interferring' in political matters around the globe..... if another country lined an army against thier borders... they go crying for 'big brothers' help.

I don't believe Spain is necessarily a racist country... but the gestures in the picture are none the less racist and offensive.  I do beleive, however, that the Spain as a nation may in fact be racially apathetic.  Lastly argueing with people who have never shown any sensitivity as to how offensive thier words can be to others over an issue like this is pointless.  It is a way of thinking which won't change.  People like them will never view acts such as this as offensive unless it is directed towards them.  If you were to openly link thier countries to its 'allies' (which they were not) of the past who commited genocide in the name of racial superiority... you may see a pattern.  As nations... they were ignorant to the most devestating act of racism in modern world history.  It is not unreasonable to assume that just as American culture has been grown to be racialy sensitive based on the past... their cultures may have grown to be raciallly insensitive.  Does anyone think as cultures they would get ruffled over a picture?

Most peeps who live in the Metropolitan Chicago area which includes NW Indiana knows about the storms and the three tornados which touched down on Monday. What most of you don't know.. is that I live just outside of Chi in Griffith, IN where one of the category F2 tornaodes touched down and ripped up my small town.

What made this even worst was that the eye of the tornado passed with in a couple of blocks from where I live... AND I SAW IT ALL FROM MY BALCONY! This was the scariest most destructive event I have ever witnessed. I wasn't listening to the radio or TV so I was totally surprised when what looked like a regular thunder storm developed and quickly with in moments dropped the twister on top of us. Although it was dark... I could clearly see the cloudy sky... but then the wind started stirring.... the rain started coming... the sky turned pitch black... lightning began to flash none stop like a strobe light........... then Whoooooshhhhhhhhhh!

The trees in the courtyardvisible from my balcony began to buckle and sway as a massive wind came rushing through. I live in the Mansards which is mentioned in one of the clips. I'ld never seen wind that strong. And like an idiot... I sat there looking at the trees bend.. sway and break in front of my eyes. I was even talking with Darlene on the webcam through this.. then the power went. The sound of the wind and the debri was madd crazy. Then the burst passed.... even though the powerful electrical and wind storm continued on and off for the rest of the night.

We just got our power back this morning... but the damage is severe and it will take some time getting things cleaned up.

The biggest blessing was that my mother and grandmother had literally missed being in the tornado's direct path by moments. They were driving home from the store near Ridge and Cline (mentioned in the news clips) and had just pulled into our parking lot as the sky was turning black. The car escaped damage because ift was on the soth side of our building... away from the tornado's primary wratch and away from the areas with the abundance of trees. I was scarred that they had got caught in this while still on the road and was thankful when I learned about tweent minutes later as the rain and winds died down... that they were safely parked by the buiding.

The Joker is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson, the character first appeared in Batman 1 (Spring 1940). The arch-enemy of the superhero Batman, the Joker is a master criminal whose characterization has varied from a violent and murderous sociopath, causing chaos and committing crimes for his own amusement, to a goofy and virtually harmless trickster-thief.

He has been potrayed in three seperate generations on film and television.  Each portrayal has been drastically different... yet all considered good.  So here's the question to all the Gotham fans..... who do you love?

Leave a comment explaining your choice a bit if you choose as well as your thoughts about the Batman movies (and TV series) as well.  Also.... who shoulfd be the villain(s) in the next movie?

Hey peeps...

Just want to say a couple of tidbits...

First I guess I don't blog enough?  Or is it that people NOT on my friends list are not privy to my friend only blogs or my bulletins or my 'status' oe any other tool available on myspace to express myself.  Hmmm........

Friends concerned about the Housequake.com incident... thanx for the continued support.  But the banning was not unexpected nor is it a loss from my position.  My only issues are that that I never broke the rules... and only said what I did after trying to defend myself against lies and accusations they (mods) and a couple of like minded members drummed up to begin with. As many of you pointed out... unto deaf ears... I did nothing to instigate their attacks... and was chastized for defending myself vs. lies.   Even my efforts to resolve the problem in PM before I lobbied my lone insult were ignored as they continued thier attacks.

They say I repeatedly attacked the moderators...???  I looked through every blog I have ever written... and I see no attacks. I see only one insult which was said in frustration after I saw they did not want to resolve the conflict... only feed and attack more.  They have even twisted that around and are saying I called some one a 'silly bitch'.   YOU may feel like a silly bitch... but YOU are propogating a lie.  I never used that phrase.  Bitch..? yes.  Silly bitch..? no.

I previously criticized how one incident was handled. But even in that instance... no insults... no personal attacks.  I have read the thread which was started to discuss the banning and it sickens me to see lie after lie like this being said.  They say I repeatedly insulted members of the forum... that is also a lie.  I ONLY insulted Dancelectric who first insulted me and even then it was not a direct insult.  Asking if someone is on crack is not calling someone a 'crackhead'.  This is the internet.. find a forum where people don't regular post that question to people who make post which make no sense.

They have continued attacking my character even after the ban by extending their focus to my Myspace page attacking everything from my personal description to the very content of my page. (Knowing full well that thier site is monitored by the 'Prince police' and yet they keep stressing my pages content).  They say that it was 'relevant' to  the issue because I made it relevant.  Which... again we know is a lie as it has been pointed out by others, that THEY brought my profile into issue as part of thier drummed up attack vs. statements I never made.

The only ones who have repeatedly attacked and insulted any one are the housequake.com mods.  But when they do it they never see thier words as insulting and/or they make excuses which only apply to them... not to the members.

I once thought highly of those who ran that site... but this behavior has been rpeated too many times.  They have done it to others... they have doen it to me... they will do it to someone else.

Why not tell the truth instead of lies if you must?  Or is it  you must resort to lies in order to make your actions appear valid?

Hopefully this is the last bit I have to say on the matter.  There  are other forums and not all are Prince related I am a memberof long and good  standing ... as well as a life outside.  I think the power trip some get on the internet is the stuff of psychiatric study.

After a past conflict with the moderators at housequake.com, I recieved countless messages and dozens of new 'friends request' from people who saw what was going on, enjoyed my little corner of the planet and mostly was happy that someone had the balls to stand up for themselves with out fear of neing publically attacked or banned for having a view not popular.  It is apparently OK to insult, belittle, make false accusations, gang up on, etc... even if unprovoked... as long as you are part of the 'inner circle' or more so... a moderator.

Apparently respecting people in thier house even in the midst of a full out assualt on all grounds I've just mentioned.... is NOT OK.

Peeps... you are a witness to hypocracy at its finest and what has become a 'totalitarian' way of running a website.  These people have allowed the positive support they had gained in the past and the little favor they have achieved from the Prince camp after the PFU initiative to go to thier heads.  Power has now currupted them completelty.  People were already afraid to express thier true opinons and views on the site with out becoming ostracized.... but now thier jurisdiction apparently covers the rest of the net as well.

They have become what they have fought against.

Months ago when a moderator, Parade, got caught up in a heated debate... she lashed out and told a member to "FUCK OFF".  She contnued to attack other members and lobby insults which commulated in a threads being closed.... only for her to abuse her Mod status to re-open one thread and deliver a very childish, "I know I'm right".

Was there any repercussions for her actions...? We complained to the highest authority at HQ but were told that she acted out of 'frustrations' and was only human.  There were no repercussions for her actions.

So now we have me... who broke NO RULES and flamed NO ONE whose worst crimes was lashing out my frustrations in my personal blog after holding everything in during a full out attack by several mods and members over statements I NEVER SAID OR IMPLIED to begin with.  I was defending myself vs. unprovoked attacks and flat out lies drummed up by others.

But as bad as it seams... what makes it even worst is that when I saw things getting out of control.... I WENT TO PM, as per the rules, to try and peacefully resolve the conflict and keep any further bloodshed (namely mine) out of the public eye.  I stressed that they mis-intepreted what I was saying and my repsonses.  I tried to explain and clarify where there may have been confusion.  Dancelectric responded with something eccletic and continued making the false accusations he drummed up to begin with.... Cateto refused to talk about it in private even though I asked to put past differences aside... and GSH flat out ignored my PM...no response what so ever.

What more could a person do?

And they continued on making personal attacks:

GSH and Turnitup basically called me a liar and hypocrit based on something I never said to begin with.

Cateto reponded publically: "Do not count on me to provide fun by engaging in discussions with self-proclaimed wise people.  I'd rather become member of the Opus Dei than trying to discuss seriously with such kind of people"

If this isn't a flat out insult... I don't know what is.  the words may not have been as straight to the point as 'bitch'... but an insult is an insult.

And then Christer, the organizer of this project who read little of what I actually said and only went by the accusations drummed up, posted this:"Come on, Big Daddy. I don't believe you when you sound intimidated and disappointed on behalf of Prince because of my coversongs. I'm sure you just want to have the same phonecall from Prince as all the people here at Housequake do: "Thanks for supporting me buddy...I want to invite you to Paisley Park as my very best fan-friend. We'll have some cake, and we're gonna talk all night about which of my songs you like the most". But neither you, me or any of my artists will probably ever get that one. Either you like my songs, or you don't. I listened to yours on your website, and I think that all of my 81 songs were way better, but I'm not gonna hassel you with my opinions (more than this one time). Keep on making coversongs in your garage. As long as you enjoy yourself, and follow your American rules, it's cool:-)"

This was insulting and belittleing AND allowed!!!  He not only posted it on HQ... but on The Org as well!!!   And on the Org... where i originally posted the EXACT SAME QUESTION... there was no argueing or twisting of what I asked as it was on HQ.... why...?  No personal vendettas and i AKSED THE QUESTIONS IN A DIRECT AND RESPECTFUL MANNER WITH OUT BASHING ANY ONE. It is interesting to note how one forum with no personal vendettas vs. a person handles the very same questions vs. the board with the vendettas.

Of course on HQ my questions led to attacks by Dancelectric which cascaded into a mess.  Not one of the moderators in the thread sought to calm or at least stay nuetral if they didn't know who started what.... they instead played true to form and instigated the already heated conversation further.

What can a person do in those situations where Private Mail and rational talk are brushed aside in favor of attacks and lies?

Yeah... I lost it and lashed out.  But I did it in my own house instead of disrespecting them in thiers. I didn't realize thier mod jurisdiction reached out to MySapce as well.  But now 'we' know.  Sure I left the blog open for public view... it was a lash out due to my frustrations.  It was the equivalent of going outside and screaming as loud as you can.  I felt talking behind thier backs was not the course and wanted them to know how frustrated I was at these unfair set of events.  If they wanted to discuss this rationally (as they now insist).... my PM was there and they cannot say that I didn't try to do that first because I DID!!! Did i post what I said on HQ...?  no... Parade copied what I said here and posted it there... in the very thread she was telling me to stay on topic about. That act drew what I said more into the public view than intended.  Another rule broken but given a free pass for a moderator. Very few people would have seen what I posted as I didn't think the general HQ public needed to know everything only my actual friedns there who would not have needed to be pointed to my blog....but like I said... Parade is one interesting case.

And I leave you with this bit of hypocracy...
Cateto: "You know, there are times when every quaker would feel the need of using cursing and big words, because all of us get heated sometimes; but we restrict ourselves and do not use such words."

And yet ms. 'Fuck Off' Parade is still a moderator.

Case and point made.

p.s.

Billy Jack Bitch just keeps playing in my head right now... I wonder why?

Its been awhile.... but I'm having issues.  I've tried to live a peaceful life and stay out of conflict at some of your favorite Prince fan site.  But they just won't let me be.  A lot of you read what goes on there regularly... some of you don't  But more so to those who do... I need a few questions answered concerning this thread...

Prince Sues Norwegian Label Over Covers Comp

If you are a member of Prince.org then the thread whioch mirrored the one on housequake was titled

Prince sues AGAIN!!!!!

Was it something I said...?

Was i doomed from the time I hit post...?

Am I being sensitive but did the argument in that thread seam more personal and have nothing really to do with the topic?

Which mod is the bigger bitch... Cateto, GSH, Turnitup or Parade?

Is Danceelectric on crack?

Do you buy that Christer isn't making any money from that 'tribute covers' album set or seeking free publicity...even though he keeps posting the link for people to buy the CD or pay for a download?

What is your honest opinion based on what you heard of the covers?

Here’s a recap of what occured:

Post 1
J7s first report
Post 2
Follow up
Post 3
Only reference related to comments from original hip thread

I go over these post again and again and again.  I try to find some wording in them which attacks Housequake.com.... can’t find them.  I look for some sarcastic or ’nah-nah’ statement which should have provoked a response... can’t find that either.  I try to find the relevance to posting a link to a blog serving some other purpose rather than posting ’actual news’.... and I simply can not find it either.

But I do find these statements...

"Good to see him around again! (Doesn’t mean though there was no hip op at all.)"... Parade, 1st posting from a mod later quoted by another mod Vc61.

"...because we all know that a bentley is infinitely more sexy than a hoverround or a cane."... sarcastic remark from Sevennynine referencing the blog article.

"Hey jseven,
Did you get permission to post that fan pic on your website drfunkenberry.com? You being Dr. Funkenberry explains also why the story is written as it is"... from Parade

"LOL!! Yeah right, must be true if you post this on your own website."... from vc61

Both made comments even if true showed no respect J7’s right to privacy... not to reveal ’private’ information which this most certainly would be.  Even if this was his blog.. as the alleged ’ghost writer’ he has a right to his privacy which a couple mods around here ignored more than once.

Note J7 had made no responses past the ones linked at the top to this point

"Boohoo boohoo. If Jseven had just written a neutral report and hadn’t brought up the hip story again we wouldn’t have brought it up again. Jseven keeps trying to prove that it didn’t happen. And personally I don’t like it if you bring up a report from ’just another website’ which seems to be your own website. I can start a blog too and make a total different story. Prince was seen at Harvelles and that is a fact for me. Concerning the hip story I still believe the sources HQ has."... once again Parade and this post speaks volumes.. since J7 never brought up the hip story again in the first place... THE MODS DID!!!

I myself added to the conversation providing information about hip surgeries because I thought it may have been true... while also asking for civility.  Also by now... dozens of other posters the saw same thing... the moderators were defending an attack which was never made.

But this is the ones which really got me from Catelo... I’m not going to quote in their entirety... but the links are here...

"Do you think HQ (and the team of mods) are credible? That is all: there you have the answer. You can believe us or not. But our background is there to check. You are free of course to ask the same questions about others too." Link to post

"If anybody is here to get information with an open, objective attitude: try to actually read what has been posted, then make your own opinion. The situation is quite clear."Link to post

Thier you have it... a play by play recant of what happened. Not all mods added to this... but the ones who did.. were the cause, fuel and primary instigators of the situation.  Countless members tried to point out what was going on but the mods in question... dismissed what was being said... continued making attacks until ..well... they discovered the only sources which were wrong... was thiers.

So... Turnitup.. my questions to you (or any other mod who wishes to address it) are simple (or maybe not)... does it really matter whether J7 owns drfunkenberry.com or not since all he did was use it in reference to report on something which accually ’did’ take place?  Because seriously... I could understand your point if he linked to an article discussing an event which never occured... or at the least somewhere in his post or on the blog actually made reference to the hip surgery.  But he never did.  The closest response he made which had ’any’ relevance was...

"All I tried 2 do was help out the site n simply say it was not true. I was not trying 2 protect any1 or cover up anything. All I tried 2 do was help out."

I fail to see any attacks vs. this site or it’s moderators coming from J7.  Nor did there exist any such post in the ’now missing’ original hip thread.  Yet some of you attacked his credibilty.  You keep saying you were defending your own... but defending it from what..?  Becasue he never attacked it.. he simply told the truth  !Yet the most you can say is that he clouded an issue... which was clear to him to begin with... by reporting on a Prince sighting which he has done with regularity for a very long time...because he linked to a blog with a couple pictures?  Furthermore... and I beleive as fans and as members of this community who had to watch this unprovoked assualt on one man’s integrety which proved to be unfounded......... Where is the Proof of the one aspect you are still holding onto?  Where is the proof linking J7 to drfunkenberry.com?

Becasuse.. I’ll tell you... I’m not some internet guru per say... but I’m far from a net idiot as well.  I’ve looked all over that site... as well as checked the registration of the domain name on ’Whosit’... and... I found nothing linking that site directly to J7.  I’m curious as I sure many now are... are you getting your intell once more from a ’reliable source’ or do you have concrete proof to the matter?  And even though J7 has not publically asked for one himself... by proxy ’we’ who tried to point out to specific Mods that thier actions were uncalled for... and had to bare witness to the assualt on J7s credibilty and character as well as our own based on this issue... would like to see a public apology which transcends simply pointing the finger at your ’source’ and still pointing at finger at J7 basically saying, "If he didn’t link to that blog...".

You are still shielding yourself from blame in this situation by blaming your source and still trying to discredit J7s credibilty with this ’irrelevant’ Dr.funckberry blog crap. ie Like my 12 year old son who got an F in English... you’re making excuses.

I find it odd that you who used a misleading photo to ’enhance’ a reported story by you which ultimatelty turned out to be false.... now point the finger of blame to your ’source’ and to J7 for linking to a blog which stated a true event... whether he wrote it or not... as justification of washing your hands and offering no public apologies... to J7 and to your members whom you attacked over this issue.
