BISHOP ALLEN (Brooklyn.,NY....)
http://www.myspace.com/bishopallen

Pop music and poetic insight from Justin Rice, Christian Rudder and friends.
New album 'GRRR...' out now on Dead Oceans reveals that after comparisons to other artists—Jonathan Richman, The Kinks, Bright Eyes, Spoon, etc., plus rave reviews from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly and many others—they’ve developed an artistry and sound unmistakably their own.

“..with a keen ear for a melody it really does feel like you’re listening to a best of collection, every track offering up its own sparkling charms and reasons for you to hit Replay.” SoundsXP (album review)

DAVID CRONENBERG’S WIFE (....London....)
http://www.myspace.com/davidcronenbergswife

Their recent album ‘Bluebeard’s Rooms’ was voted in SoundsXP’s top 10 albums of 2008 and they’re currently putting the finishing touches to a brand new one, which will no doubt be full of unhinged skewed-pop gems like the last one.

“It’s strange that they’ve been stuck with the anti-folk tag when they’re as much devotees of the darker side of indie rock, and singer Tom Mayne has something of a Mark E Smith or Nick Cave in the strangeness and directness of his grim lyrical thoughts….in short it’s dirty minded genius.” SoundsXP

FIREWORKS NIGHT (....London....)

http://www.myspace.com/fireworksnight

Theatrical alt-folk from a .London. ensemble currently causing quite a stir. There’s echoes of .Nick..Cave here, and their unique orchestral pop has won them fans from the likes of Radio 1’s Colin Murray to a significant chunk of the music press.

“When Fireworks Night play, the darkness swells, the lights sharply frame the band and it’s as if you’re watching a theatre stage. James’ songs feel like mini-dramas, intense and saturnine, as their atmospheric chamber-pop plays out slowly and then suddenly bursts into gypsy life.” – SoundsXP

A CLASSIC EDUCATION (....ITALY....)
http://www.myspace.com/aclassiceducation

The music is lush, expansive and propulsive; sure to win the hearts of Band of Horses and Fanfarlo fans. Fresh from a jubilant tour of the ....US.... including SXSW they’re set to elevate themselves above those bands.

"they’re very atmospheric and have an air of grandeur about them. None more so than on the song ‘Victories At Night’ which builds into a crescendo with resplendent vocals. Epic words for epic stuff!" – Indie MP3

FOXES! (..Brighton..)
http://www.myspace.com/foxesfoxesfoxes

Foxes! recently released a poptastic split single on Sounds Experience and are currently hopscotching up and down the country with tour buddies The Hot Toddies.

“It's everything and more you want from an indie pop band. Well written songs, girl vocals, some jangling guitars and some lovely melodic sounds coming from the keyboards. That's all you need to know is it not?” – IndieMP3

THE WOE BETIDES (....London.... / Birminhgam)
http://www.myspace.com/thewoebetides

The Woe Betides' music is rather majestic and their new EP ‘Play Dead’ has been causing quite a flurry of interest, and rightly so.

"A strong sense of drama... asymmetrical folk-pop with unexpected structures and complex arrangements... ‘Boredom is the Killer’ is a fine piece of Brian Eno-style artrock"  - SoundsXP

SoundsXP hosts a four band extravaganza at the Brixton Windmill on October 24th. Tickets are a criminally cheap £5 in advance from WeGotTickets. The headline act will be seminal 80s South London Peel faves I, Ludicrous, producers of undoubtedly that decade's finest piece of pop whimsy Preposterous Tales. They will be supported on the night by Tits of Death, Shimmy Rivers And And Canal and The Creeping Nobodies.

I, LUDICROUS

I, Ludicrous is a two piece popular music ensemble formed in London in 1986 by John Procter and Will Hung. A homemade 4 track cassette somehow found its way into the mits of Mark E Smith who - without telling them - promptly booked them to support The Fall at a top London venue. The band achieved immortality the following year when their seminal release 'Preposterous Tales' reached the dizzy heights of number 11 in John Peel's Festive 50.
In February of this year they released a marvellous 5 track EP; on that EP was a song called The Ruby Wax Song. Ruby Wax heard this song and made this exclamation on her blog: 'I can't believe that my whole life has been summed up in a song!!'

Their best-of entitled '20 Years In Show Business' is out now on Sanctuary Recordings.

I, Ludicrous

TITS OF DEATH

Tits of Death is a ten-breasted rock machine with sky scraper heels. Think Russ Meyer Vs The Terminator.
'It's not every day you see a band that sends you home with ringing ears at 1am to thrash at Marc Bolan numbers on your unplugged Strat, feeling every bit the Iggy Pop rock monster ya just know ya are on the inside. Hell, it's not every band that have the capacity to bring out that part of you that wants to throw on an evening gown and join them onstage to spit fire through a rendition of teenage kicks.' - Harmony Central
'The Shangri Las meets Slayer' – Time Out

Tits of Death

SHIMMY RIVERS AND AND CANAL

Shimmy Rivers and and Canal have been making Londoner's pulses racing faster and faster every time they play. Their bassist dresses like a bear and they produce more energy than a breakers yard on fire.

Their last single on White Heat was single of the month in Plan B.

THE CREEPING NOBODIES

The Canadian based band The Creeping Nobodies are over here on tour and we're very please they're playing a gig with us! They listen to Electrelane, Oneida, Damo Suzuki and The Fall amongst others and are very good indeed.

Hi there, we're very pleased and excited to announce that we'll shortly be releasing not one but two singles!

One of them is a split single by Esiotrot and Foxes! and will be available on 7" vinyl, strictly limited to 500 copies and download. The idea for this release came about during one of our club nights when we had both bands on the bill. They both played ace sets brimming with slightly off center indie-pop gems and I remember saying to the others; "hey, we need to release something by these guys", which they thought was a great idea and now we're doing it!

The other single will be an ultra limited 7" by the dynamic two piece Olympians. It's incredibly hooky and Faris from The Horrors liked it so much he wanted to do the artwork, which he's done!

Some of the tracks are up on the player now so take a listen and let me know what you think.

Neil

SIX NATION STATE (Southampton/London)

'They'll get into your ears, under your skin and become impossible not to love.' – Drowned In Sound
www.myspace.com/sixnationstatetheband

SCREAMING TEA PARTY (London)
They're a three piece that'll slice you open with their barbed riffs then stitch you back together and massage you with dreamy pop
'they switch continually between scribbling punkabilly and utterly stripped- down lo-fi, with magical results.' - Rough Trade
www.myspace.com/screamingteaparty

THE DULOKS (London)
Three sparky girls in costumes playing sparkly organ led pop with an inordinate amount of enthusiasm. Their star trail burns brightly.
'indisputably ace, solid-gold pop' – NME
www.myspace.com/theduloks

OLYMPIANS (London)
Olympians were formed from the charred remnants of The Bridge Gang and they bristle with punk energy and charged pop hooks.

www.myspace.com/olympians1

REFLECTIONS OF A BULL (London)
Joel from Good Shoes' quirky new band, expect catchy tunes that'll snag your cardigan.
www.myspace.com/reflectionsofabull

THE CHIARA L'S (Leeds)
Like the similar sounding Delta 5, The Chiara L's hail from Leeds and they create punchy indie-pop with a Riot Grrrrl undercurrent that'll get your pulse racing and your head shaking.
'Sharp, Short, Smart and Snappy! Just How we like it!' - Radio 1 (Huw Stephens)
www.myspace.com/thechiarals

SPILT MILK (Bromley)
….. weave lovely catchy melodies around their deliciously scratchy songs.
'Simple indie-riffs play tag-team with a slower chorus that dodge around with the listener's dancing feet. It's no use crying over Spilt Milk, but it's worth shouting about.' – Tastyzine

The bright and shiny Schlas single is out now on limited edition 7 inch. We've already sold a large number through pre-orders already so be quick!

Here's what they say:

"The Schla La Las have a sassy attitude which speaks volumes through their brand of fun time pop. Fizzy and fun, a band worth dancing to." - Plastic Ashtray

"'Put Your Guitar Where Your Mouth Is' is a brattily brilliant and deceptively complex set of expertly and excitingly precarious interwoven inspirations, influences and egos, feel the hate, it's great!" - Unpeeled

"Their sound is vintage as the clothes they wear and illuminate a musical trend towards the good old days...They evidently wish to introduce some girlish charm and more roll for the rock, some good clean fun." - Rockfeedback

The single is out in all good record shops and you can also order it through our nice little online shop here

Good day to you all

Just thought I'd post a few quotes from reviews of  Daddy Long Legs' single, which you can download from here.

"Daddy Long Legs play eccentric pop songs with crankiness and playfulness, rock and blues flourishes and lots of twists. Lo-fi, high quality, maximum joy. This is pop" – Opposition T

"A really marvellous shake, rattle and roll through cracking, adorable riff after adorable riff" – rockfeedback.com

"Like the missing link between Arctic Monkeys and Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly.. ..then introduces harmonies that flick it all into more Beatles-y territory. 4/5" - God is in the TV

"The Jam, Gang Of Four and The Who all rolled into one with a spot of tea to wash it all down. This record has a lot of appeal and would be worth the time and effort to track down a copy." – Ear Candy Magazine

Hello all, I hope you're well.

A rather belated Blog I know but I thought it might be nice to have a bit of a post release perspective.

Well, we've had a good response to the single so far; it has picked up some rather lovely reviews and has had some air play, notably on Marc Riley's show on BBC6 Music.

Here's a few review snippets for you:

"The Country-Piney persona has written quite the decent little ditty in the form of the double Aside single. Great Divide oozes quality and road-trip blues akin to the likes of early Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris..." - Gigwise

Trouble is a sparkling, hip-shimmying, smile-inducing little riot of a song that introduces us to country music that shakes, rattles AND rolls. All teasing hi-hat and coy whiskey-chaser lyrics, its a simply irresistible s ong that grabs your hand and pulls you onto the dancefloor before you know whats hit you."  - God Is In The TV

"'Great Divide' proves that there's substance behind the petticoats and vintage dresses" - MAPS

The single is still available from our online shop here and all good record shops.

Feel free to join us on our forum   to talk about the single and other stuff: http://www.soundsxp.com/forum/index.php

Thanks

Neil
