A publicist says Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and comedian Bernie Mack has died at age 50.Publicist Danica Smith says Bernie Mac died early Saturday at a hospital in the Chicago area of complications due to pneumonia.

The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but he had said the condition went into remission in 2005.

He recently had been hospitalized and treated for pneumonia. Mac had starring roles in "Ocean's Eleven," "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers."

The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006.

StubHub, the world's largest ticket marketplace, has launched the 2008 StubHub Spotlight Artist Program, currently featuring Universal recording artist Colbie Caillat and soon to highlight Against Me!. In the current unsettled music climate, with declining record sales and challenges adapting to the digital realm, StubHub's Spotlight Artist Program offers touring acts a welcome opportunity to promote their current tour, album and ongoing projects at no cost, all while driving traffic to the artists' personal websites, label websites, fan clubs and more. Every month, StubHub prominently features a currently touring artist on the homepage of StubHub.com with an attractive endorsement that includes an exclusive interview, multimedia content, artist bio and links to purchase a current album and tickets for the tour. StubHub's Spotlight Artist program was launched in August 2007, as a valuable tool for artists to engage the millions of music fans who shop for tickets daily on StubHub by utilizing special and exclusive content. The program offers site visitors a unique ticket-buying experience that is both interactive and informative, while enhancing the visibility of today's hottest music acts. To date, the StubHub Spotlight Artist Program has already featured both emerging and prominent artists such as Korn, Paolo Nutini, Joss Stone, A Fine Frenzy and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Does the very thought of performing in public send chills down your spine? Do you fear 'blanking-out' in mid-show?

As any performer knows, stage fright can be crippling. The Beatles used to vomit before their big stadium shows. Barbara Streisand didn't perform before a live audience for many years. And yes, I have suffered from stage fright too. I don't much anymore, but on occasion it still happens.

Let's take a look at the symptoms of stage fright: our heart beat increases, our blood pressure goes up, our breathing quickens, our mind races, we might feel like we need to visit the restroom (or worse), our tummy gets upset (or worse), we forget our lyrics, music, patter, etc. In other words, everything is working against us as we try to put on a great show. Soooooo, what can we do about it????

First and foremost is to be prepared. Know you material inside out!!!! If you have bad stage fright before, try performing in front of a mirror when you rehearse, (this is a great exercise even if you do not suffer from occasional stage fright, because it allows you to see what the audience is seeing when they watch you). If possible, record your entire performance, as this will allow you to see any errors and fix them. Then you will be comfortable that you really know your material and present it in the manner that you WANT it to be shown. Don't wait until the last day to do this! It takes time so allow time. Trying this at the last minute could leave you feeling uncertain or even make things worse.

Before your performance be sure to get a GOOD night's sleep. When we are tired, we tend to lose notes in our upper range (the high notes we sing) and transitions from chest (middle) voice to head (upper) voice aren't as smooth.

Okay, the day of your performance is here, relax. There are things you can do to help yourself. First, do NOT eat a big meal before the show. Eat lightly, preferably a comfort food. It might be a cup of chicken soup, a bowl of oatmeal, meatloaf, a pot pie, etc. What did your mama cook for you that made you feel good?

Stay away from anything acidic like tomatoes or citrus because it increases problems with your "nervous stomach" For the same reason, stay away from caffeine (coffee, colas, etc.), excessive sugary items and alcohol.

If you will be singing or speaking, be sure to warm up. Your throat will be tight normally, and more so because you are scared. And you know you won't sound good if your throat is not responding to your wishes. Warming up is always a good idea - but especially so when you are having stage fright. HaHas (a breathing exercise that I teach my students) done to a scale are especially good. Plus the repetition will take your mind off your fears. Drinking warm, caffeine free herbal tea sweetened with honey will help relax your throat.

1.) Get some "easy" exercise. This will release endorphins. Endorphins get your blood pumping and tell you everything is alright. It helps us cope with that "flight or fight" syndrome we feel when frightened. Although, don't wear yourself out. You need energy to do your show.

2.) Distraction: watch a favorite TV show, listen to some music you enjoy, play a computer game, talk with a close friend, etc. As long as it is enjoyable, safe and relaxing.

3.) Deep breathing: Take a deep breath through your nose and use your diaphragm! Hold it for the count of three. Release it through your mouth. Count to three. Repeat. This exercise will slow your heart beat, lower your blood pressure, and your breathing back to normal.

4.) Eat half a banana. If you are hungry you can eat the whole thing. Bananas release serotonin in the brain. Serotonin tells the body everything is okay - it makes us feel good. Now don't pig out thinking more is better. That full tummy will NOT help you - it could make it worse!

5.) Sometimes looking at the audience during your performance can be disorienting or even frightening. Different things work for different people. Some people like to imagine that the audience is sitting there in their underclothes. Other performers like to focus on a friend and ignore the rest of the audience. When I am nervous, I like to look just over the top of their heads. That way they think I am looking at them, but I haven't made eye contact which can be nerve racking when you are already suffering from stage fright.

NO smoking, NO caffeine, NO chocolate, NO dairy products, NO alcohol two or more hours before and during your performance. I know some of you are saying, I can't do without . . . If that's the case, then try to cut down. All of these will affect your voice and if you are nervous, you don't need to add to your problems by further compromising your ability to sing or speak.

Good luck!!!!
