Hello people!

We are looking for people to invest in our debut album so that we can make it great and quick!!  Unfortunately in this game it's difficult to raise capital and our label doesn't contribute towards recording costs.  Anyone interested in helping contact rebelsrevenge@hotmail.com!!  We are hoping to release it in August.  Also look out for rude gal tshirts etc all coming soon!!

From August we will be being booked by Ian Armstrong @ Hidden Talent Bookings  HIDTALBOK@aol.com.  We will be sharing his books with many bands in our ska family The Skints, SB6, Slackers, JB Conspiracy..:)

Please get in touch with me if you'd like to book us before August and Ian for post August.  The same fees etc apply and nothing too much will change, just a bit less work on the computer for me ha ha!!  You can contact me for a while during the changeover

Keep it dirty!!

Dirty Revolution - Its Gonna Get Dirty {DOGCD34}
Current mood: bouncy
Category: Music

Five characterful tracks to really tantalise, if they can keep this form going their full album release will be something really really special. This left me wanting more DR vibes!

In I Love Reggae and 50p they've come up with two standards that will find their way into the ska family's repertoire in double quick time.

I love reggae is a top tune and well good lyrics but 50p steals the show for the humour element that makes the overall sound of DR doubly endearing - its the three minute perfectly crafted left hook that smacks you in the mush and makes you go back and listen again to the five tracks until they get into your head, they've all got something.

Failure to communicate and Police are earnest songs with relevant messages that are rolled up in tunes plaintively delivered on melodica that are instantly memorable and stuck in my head for days.

Lead vocals are shared but on the occasions when Reb fronts up the band it takes on a different persona altogether, she is a seductive mix of femininity, sharp wit, forthright views and energy - powerful stuff.

Its a busy few minutes of confident, chunky, uptempo listening pleasure, DR mean business, I've heard loads of good things about their live set too, especially at Ska Splash.

Lets hope they gather momentum on the live circuit over the coming months and lead a charge of new ska talent to a bigger audience - I bet gigs in SKADIFF are rockin'!

Oh, its on Do the Dog, the supreme champion of new ska talent in the UK.

online zine http://www. distortedmagazine. com has just posted the following review of "It's Gonna Get Dirty":

It's Gonna Get Dirty
Dirty Revolution
(Do The Dog)
Social commentary through this sweetly female fronted Welsh band, with elements of roots, ska & reggae. This EP is a nice appetiser for undoubtedly good things to come, as their ironic lyrics & anti-establishment rhetoric takes front stage with a little gem of a release.

Mike Davies played 50p on Radio Ones The Lock Up last night-this makes me mega happy, but i'd love to hear I Love Reggae or Police on there.

DIRTY REVOLUTION – FREE SAMPLER CD

I saw this lot perform at a recent Manchester Ska Bar (common theme methinks) and the subtle politics and darn fine melodies awash with crystal clear vocals and tinkling flow left me somewhat impressed and feeling in a jolly good mood.  This CD was a freebie but due to the quality of the two tracks is definitely worth my time and effort in reviewing.  In fact track one is a sneak preview of a forthcoming EP and judging by this effort of sharp reggae cum ska I think I may be quite justified in expecting a little crackerjack of an offering.

’I Love Reggae’ opens and is an absolute stunning number and a million miles from the headbanging mania of what rocks my boat but hey, there is no doubt about it that here I have discovered a minor classic.  Lyrically cute, mightily effective and delivered by a soothing voice that may lack a touch of sanguinity (which adds to the appeal) this is a dream song with which to open ones account and Dirty Revolution have well and truly hit the nail on the head here.  A point is made and a political stance taken but rather than scream and shout a moment in time is coolly questioned and the results are left for you to decipher.  OK the answers are obvious but the way in which the initial poser is dealt is very attractive and the fact that it is relayed by a truly harmonious song really makes one sit up with admiration.

Track two is incredibly a live recording!  I say ’incredibly’ because the production of ’East and West’ is so fuckin’ good I would never have assumed it was a live piece until I heard the closing applause and congratulatory shouts.  Another resolute song which is less buoyant than the first track but is more orthodox in its approach and is a spliffed-up trumpet assisted stroll that really hit’s the chill-out factor and gets one wound down and ready to snooze.  Proper calming magic and another feather in the Dirty Revolution cap.
It seems several scenes will be graced by this lovely band who make a point without a lot of fuss.  A true pleasure and more of the same wouldn’t go far amiss from pleasing this appreciative punker.  A classic discovery for the seeker of something special.

The ANTI-war march in London yesterday was amazing.  Me and Stu followed The King Blues Soundsystem’round all day and we couldn’t stop smiling or dancing. I was so happy to be at the first protest of many that i’ve been to where there was a real sense of UNITY amongst our little group...singing, dancing, joy and peace....spoiled only by a few arsey socialists who thought that they owned the march and had a right to force people to listen to speeches-which i’m sure were good, but we all knew why we were there...cos WE DON’T WANT WAR ANYMORE....so whats wrong with coming together joyfully to sing and dance?

I for one was elated to see that so many young people in this country want peace and to meet so many lush people all day long...i reckon it’s given me enough energy to get through the next few months :)

We played a bizzare but wicked gig in Reading later....i was singing my anti-screwdriver song when i noticed a guy looking at me strangely...my first thought was oh fuck, he’s a fan of those white power fuck wits...after the gig he grabbed me and said he liked the tunes...so i said have you heard of screwdriver then?  and he said he used to be a fan but he’s changed.....how cool that he could have changed and that he admitted it to me...total respect to him

Plus my Mum came and saw us and finally got what i’m trying to do :)

Peace, Love and Unity’s the only way to go....

Ska Fascists

Ok so i love ska, i love reggae and i love music generally...and when you love something you care about it and get passionate...

There's a fine line between being passionate and opinionated and being a fucking fascist..

Recently i've been getting involved with more on line networks etc for ska fans and i'm just absofuckinglutely shocked that these sites seem to be a way for people to bitch and whinge about each other (not just this but a fair amount goes on!!)  This particularly pissed me off as i have been called "soft" "the Kate Nash of ska" etc etc  (based on 2 songs on myspace) and i've read countless other petty bollocks about other people..

so heres my view...

1. Ska is a form of music...forms/genres of music crossover all the time-that keeps it interesting and culturally relevant.Theres no rules, it doesn't have to be five sweaty blokes screaming after having forgotten to take their ritalin (though i love that sometimes) and Ska and Reggae have always been UNITY music so all of you bitchers and moaners are missing the point totally...stop being so narrow minded and purist..

2.  I like Kate Nash but i wrote all of my cheeky songs before i'd heard of her, and i'm not cockney and i don't have one song about my broken heart/boyfriend/household items.  Just cos we are both women that sing?  Stop putting people into tiny boxes and labelling them cos its pig ignorant.

If you don't like someones music..don't listen to it..simple....

Sometimes i hate pop music and i get pissed off but i know that to someone somewhere that music represents freedom or whatever and even if to me its utter shit..you can't negate someones efforts and feelings so shut up

Shut the fuck up and go and do something positive instead of sitting on a computer slagging people off when you wouldn't have the balls to do it to their face or make music yourself

Rant over
Thanks
