When Myk and Erin started talking about writing some new material, Myk brought out the riff for "Too Dead" and it became the first "New" Fanzamar song. It has a jazzy, swinging feel to it and is super catchy.
It's pretty hard to give a frame of reference on this one. It sounds like Fanzamar and that's that. If you liked old Fanzamar songs like "Purple Jazz" and "Lookin' For A Doll," you'll really dig this track.
The vocals sound obnoxious as hell, with the verses being convoluted tongue twisting spats of venom, while the chorus is a big ol' sing along that sticks in your brain and won't go away.
Cheez swings, Flackster chugs, Spinach thumps and Myk delivers one of his most infectious licks ever. This one will end up on "Zonit," the first of two full length records that will hit your eardrums very, very soon.
Watch for this track to be posted on MySpace SOON...

If you've ever read "The Stand" by Stephen King, then you know all about "Superflu." In King's books, the virus goes by a few names, including "Superflu," "Captain Tripps" and "A6," but it's all the same deadly microbiological beast. This song was written by Chad and Tommy, and it displays a definite twist to the Fanzamar sound. While it's not an all out bombastic romp like "The Trepanning," "Superflu" would fit really well back-to-back with it.
The guitars on this track are lurching, crunchy and quite heavy. Listen closely and you'll hear some really cool slow tremolo dives during the verses courtesy of Myk. Robert throws in some strong double kick work during the choruses, this is the first Fanzamar recording to feature a true double bass rhythym. It's not a fast song, it's more mid-tempo, bludgeoning away.
The bridge of this track really stands out. It's dissonant and edgy. Myk's solo here is very subliminal and fits the track really well. The few people who have heard the rough mixes of the track have brought up Megadeth as a point of reference. While this is in no way a thrash metal song, our influences do shine through a little bit.
When you hear this track live, you'll really notice the way the bass line stands out - fuzzed up, flanged hard and bottom heavy.
In the lyrics, you'll hear references to the characters in the book, but the bulk of the track is written from the perspective of ol' East Texas. Did manage to sneak in a Larry Underwood reference, because you can't have a song about The Stand without referencing that #1 hit from Larry Underwood, "Baby, Can You Dig Your Man?" He's a righteous man, baby.
If you haven't read the book, you need to check it out, it's King's masterpiece.

One of the new tracks from the "Vegenation" EP, "We The Sheep" is a very straightforward song with a punk rock edge to it.
Lyrically, it addresses the propensity of people to buy into social programming. The line "Yeah, the perpetrator, he's in charge" directly addresses the fact that so many of our social ills are instigated from the actions of those who ascribe to the parasitic, pyrimidal structure of modern society. As for the song's chorus, it's pretty simple really...If you are unhappy with the way things are but you won't take the time to help make things better, don't be too surprised when the machine runs you over.
We've got some really cool samples on the track from Alex Jones, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinisch. If you listen closely, you may also hear Erin doing a few pick scrapes and bends, which is about all he can do on guitar. Expect a wall of guitar power chords bursting through the mix, snide, pissed-off vocals, rolling & thunderous drums and a bass line with a Rancid-type feel.
Aside from "Broken Bottle," this track is probably about the most punk rock thing Fanzamar has ever done. You'll only hear this track on this EP, but expect it to be a staple of the live set.

We settled into STURGILL STUDIOS today and busted out most of the rhythm tracks for "Vegenation." Cheez ripped through the drums and we're happy to report that Chris Sturgill has plugged in some fantastic drum tones.
Spin clean pounded through the bass tracks and Chad threw down a lot of great clean and saturated tracks. Myk and Erin throw on their contributions tomorrow and we'll have a special guest lending a hand in the studio.
There is a ton of video footage of the making of "Vegenation," as well as plenty of cool footage that will find its way to you tube or the end of the DVD.
So far everything is turning out killer. We can't wait for you all to hear the finished product!
Watch for another update after tomorrow's festivities and plenty of eye candy to pop up REALLY soon...
