If you haven't noticed, we have a new book out: Working Sex: Sex Workers Write About a Changing Industry. Well, kind of new- the book actually came out at the beginning of the year, but I have been so busy that I haven't been able to do much to get the word out about it. There are so many excellent people involved, and we are very excited about it, so please check it out! And for the love of god, would someone please post a review about it on Amazon? It has received great reviews in the press, but nothing on amazon! post something bad, just post something!

Working Sex is a new anthology of writing by people who have worked in the sex trade. The essays, narratives, plays, and stories showcase a wide variety of perspectives on and experiences with sex work by people in all areas of the industry, making it the most diverse anthology on sex work in the US.

Angry and academic, sexy and sordid, hot and hilarious, Working Sex offers unique takes on class, race, gender, and labor from the people who live and work in the crucible of our collective desire and revulsion! Yeah! Contributors include Bruce LaBruce, Michelle Tea, Eileen Myles, Vaginal Davis, Veronica Monet, Chris Kraus, Aiden Shaw, Stephen Elliott, Gloria Lockett, nomy Lamm, and many more. Edited by Annie Oakley, director of the Sex Workers' Art Show.

You can buy it here, or better yet go down to your local bookstore and request that they carry it.

Bring us to your school! Below is the info about our current lineup, you can find more at www.sexworkersartshow.com! xoxoxo!

The Sex Workers' Art Show Tour is coming to your town! The show is an eye-popping evening of visual and performance art created by people who work in the sex industry to dispel the myth that they are anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses!

The wildly successful cabaret-style show is hitting the road again, bringing audiences a blend of spoken word, music, drag, burlesque, and multimedia performance art. Intelligent and hot, disturbing and hilarious, the performances offer a wide range of perspectives on sex work,  from celebration of prostitutes' rights and sex-positivity to views from the darker sides of the industry.

This year's incredible lineup of performers includes international burlesque sensation and recipient of the "Best Body in Burlesque" award, Miss Dirty Martini; infamous feminist author of I Love Dick Chris Kraus; award-winning author of the coming-out memoir How I Learned to Snap, Kirk Read; porn star and writer Lorelei Lee; performance artist and comic queen of cleavage The World Famous *BOB*; performer and musical theatre mutineer Erin Markey; fierce trans activist and rapper Tre Vasquez; internationally infamous drag-subverter Krylon Superstar; dominatrix and destroyer of Asian feminine mythology Keva I. Lee; and tour founder and director Annie Oakley.

The show includes people from all areas of the sex industry: strippers, prostitutes, dommes, film stars, phone  sex  operators,  internet models, etc.  It smashes traditional stereotypes and moves beyond "positive" and "negative" into a fuller articulation of the complicated ways sex workers experience their jobs and their lives.  The  Sex Workers'  Art Show  entertains,  arouses,  and  amazes  while simultaneously offering  scathing  and   insightful  commentary  on  notions  of  class, race, gender, labor and sexuality!

"The Sex Workers' Art Show is not simply a display of those in the sex industry... but an active force in articulating, shaping, and contesting the meaning of the identity "sex worker" in the public sphere" --Theatre Journal

"Annie Oakley doesn't need a gun.  She's  armed with fierce creativity,  political passion,  big brains and exquisite sexiness. As the Sex Workers' Art Show's director, Oakley leads a brilliant  crew which serves up whore culture at its  most  delicious and satisfying."   --Annie Sprinkle, Phd

Hi chickens!

This is the official call for submissions for the 2008 SWAS tour! Anyonewho has worked in the sex industry is encouraged to apply: porn stars, strippers, escorts, dommes, webcam girls (and boys), hookers, etc. Spread this around, and feel free to contact us with questions!

THE SHOW:

The Sex Workers' Art Show is a cabaret-style evening of visual and performance art created by people who work in the sex industry to dispel the myth that we are anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses! The artwork and performances offer a wide range of perspectives on sex work. The show hopes through its diversity of viewpoints to move beyond "positive" and "negative" into a fuller articulation of the complicated ways sex workers experience our jobs and our lives. You can read more about the show at www.sexworkersartshow.com.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Sex trade workers are in a unique position to observe the freaky dynamics of capitalism, desire, ownership, gender, and race. We are looking for hilarious, disturbing, challenging, entertaining, accessible work that addresses these issues. Or, you know, whatever else. You don't have to be an experienced performer to apply! We're interested in a range of mediums- spoken word, burlesque, music, video and performance art of all kinds.

THE DEAL:

The tour is happening late January through early March 2008. It hits approximately 30 cities nationwide, in a bit over a month. Venues will be varied, from small clubs and galleries to large theaters and college campuses. We'll be traveling in two new vans, staying in hotels. There will be eight performers, a technical director and road crew along. Pay is $3500/performer, plus lodging, transportation to the first show and home from the last, and some meals. Staff will be provided to sell performers' merchandise.

SUBMITTING:

People who are working or have worked in the sex industry are invited to submit any kind of visual or performance art. Pieces should be no more than 12 minutes long. DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED! Please email info@sexworkersartshow.com for more information.

Thanks everyone! Please spread the word and forward this!

We were at Bard College recently on I think a Monday, and everyone had a bug up their butt to go out dancing. But Bard is in Annandale-On-Hudson which is in the middle of bf nowhere. But the students took us to this bar called the Black Swan, a tiny cute ancient place in an old house. It was in some nearby, even smaller town. I'm not even sure if they had a sign. the bartender was trying to go home, but we convinced him to stay open. There ended up being about 25-30 of us, we were the only people in there. we took over and had a huge superfun dance party! the bartender dj'd with his ipod and did shots with us all night and everyone got drunk and made out with him and everyone else. people got naked on the dance floor. it was so fucking fun! i'm going to try to post the pictures below.
