Jose Gonzalez comes to 53 Degrees on Friday 4th April after receiving ace reviews for his latest album 'In Our Nature'. The Sunday Times gave it a glorious 4/5 and said "What a beautiful, powerful, haunting album" and Clash thinks it "is another timeless classic to delve deep into."
If his reviews were enough, José has had a busy few months on the road. An extra show at London's Shepherds Bush has now been added due to overwhelming demand, after the first date sold out in a matter of hours. On 21 February, José González took part in the iTunes singer/songwriter festival held at AIR Studios. The event honored the art of songwriting, singers, collaborators and writers, and is soon to be released as an iTunes-exclusive live EP.
Having spent the New Year playing festivals in Australia, José will spend March touring across the US before making his way across the pond to perform a string of UK dates in April.
Jose's third single 'Killing For Love' is to be released shortly after his gig at 53 Degrees on Monday 7 April. "What's the point if you hate and kill for love?" the song asks, distilling the personal and political into a rousing three minute protest song, his trademark intricate acoustic guitar picking taking on an agitated style. The b-side is an exclusive non-album track, 'Neon Lights', another of the hushed and perfectly mesmeric songs that only José can produce with such grace and lightness of touch.
Jose has also crossed musical boundaries. After covering Kylie's 'Hand on your Heart' it proved to be a hit with the lady herself as he made a special appearance in Kylie's documentary White Diamond, singing a duet with the pop star on her hit 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. There is no stopping Jose and his second album is due to do as good as his first 'Veneer'.
53 Degrees usually host up and coming artists and also many stars of the moment are looking forward to Jose serenading the audience.
