...It's definitely the most complicated MildredLovesYou pin-up so far - it's been subjected to a myriad of unwelcome delays, and it's over a month late in the meantime - but Pin-Up #33 is online at last (as of yesterday – 09/09/09) - guest starring Julius the Python + 8E.

Julius may well be the largest albino Burmese python in Germany. And she is currently “with child”, so to speak: full to brim with loads of eggs just waiting to be laid. Which is why baby pythons have been included in this portrait... ;)

So without further ado...

In July we began the first in our series of Guest Star pin-ups (there are quite a number of these planned). And our first guest star? - the fabulous Hedoluxe (from Planet Hedoluxe). He’s often seen connection with Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School in Hamburg and Berlin, among other things. Behold...

Pin-Up #32 – "Guest Starring Hedoluxe"
featuring Thérèse-Constance van Ticklinckx, Twiggy Torpedo, Hedoluxe, and Candy-Box Rosie

Hello again Lovelies... And after such a terribly long time of being away once again too! I’ve lamented my life as a cartoon pin-up and its unavoidable dependence on my creator and illustrator LaLaVox before. And she’s left my MySpace profile to collect dust once again. We haven’t been back here since November 2008! But I think this time around I’ll actually be able to return for regular visits at last.

So it’s time to do a bit of catching up – because while things have been dead as a doornail here at my MySpace profile, there have been a fair amount going on at www.mildredlovesyou.com between November 2008 and now.

This post is to catch up on Pin-Ups #21 to #31. (Pin-Ups #32 + #33 will each get a post of their own.)

Back in October 2008 LaLaVox and her guy began extensive renovations and remodeling in their neighboring apartments (turning the two of them into one), and it became impossible for us to keep up with a weekly pin-up. So we posted October/ November/ December holiday greetings and the site went into hibernation for the duration.

We returned to our Monday Pin-Up series in January 2009 with a redux version of the very first pin-up in the series (which began on June 16th, 2008). Here are January’s pin-ups:

Pin-Up #21 – "Legs Redux"
featuring Thérèse-Constance van Ticklinckx, Mildred Mahler, and Kitty Derail

Pin-Up #22 – "Siren"
featuring Coco Delish

Pin-Up #23 – "Fairy Tales"
featuring Midnight in Paris and Midnight in New York

Pin-Up #24 – "Promising Rose Gardens"
featuring Candy-Box Rosie

But in February, due to continuing renovations and other time limitations, we decided to turn The Monday Pin-Up into The Monthly Pin-Up. We did however manage to produce 3 Valentine’s pin-ups for February in spite of this new one-pin-up-a-month decision. Voilà...

Pin-Up #25 – "Three Hearts (The 1st of 3)"
featuring Thérèse-Constance van Ticklinckx

Pin-Up #26 – "Three Hearts (The 2nd of 3)"
featuring Mildred Mahler

Pin-Up #27 – "Three Hearts (The 3rd of 3)"
featuring Kitty Derail

And in March came the first honest-to-goodness Monthly Pin-Up:

Pin-Up #28 – "Ready to Swing into Spring"
featuring Coco Delish

We were optimistic that we’d be able to keep up with one pin-up a month, in spite of continuing time limitations, but it was not to be. So we closed the site from April through June. We’ve reopened in the meantime with Pin-Ups # 32, and #33 (featuring our first guest stars), but the pin-ups from the missing months remain to date in a half-finished, work-in-progress limbo. We’ll post them whenever they manage to reach completion; we do want to have a complete set after all. ;) But for now, here’s a bit of a preview and place holder for them...

Pin-Up #29 – "Rise and Shine"
featuring Midnight in Paris
Pin-Up #30 – "Ruby Slipped"
featuring Ruby Slipped
Pin-Up #31 – "Ode to Erté"
featuring Mildred Mahler and Midnight in New York

Wish us luck! :)

Hugs and kisses,

Mildred

Dearest MySpace Friends...

You haven't heard from me in ages, now have you? And why is that? That is because I, Mildred Mahler, am merely a lowly cartoon character and am completely at the mercy of the whims and follies of my creator! LaLaVox is her name... Some of you know her already. And I have a major bone to pick with her, because she has left this MySpace profile of mine mercilessly unattended since almost April of this year; almost 7 whole months in the meantime!!! Grrrrr....

...To be fair though, she's only been leaving my MySpace profile hanging (while leaving her personal MySpace profile and her two music profiles hanging as well); she's been pretty active with our MildredLovesYou.com website. Back on June 16th we all got together and started something called The Monday Pin-Up. This Monday Pin-Up series was never announced here at MySpace though, because LaLaVox just didn't feel ready to make a big deal of it all yet. Perhaps something inside her already knew that 2008 would end of being an uncooperative year. But she had gone ahead and begun anyway, because she'd promised herself she would begin the series on Monday, June 16th, 2008. It did indeed end up being a bumpy ride though. A couple of fairly nice Monday Pin-Ups did result from all of this effort however, and so here are a few of our favorites for you to see...

But things got increasingly difficult as the year wore on and by Halloween she'd almost given up completely. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and, woe is me, I was forced to – for lack of a better word - MISS it!!! - being consoled only by a quickly thrown together Halloween Collage greeting card made up of past images!... >:(

LaLaVox had then hoped to get things going again this month, but alas it was not to be. And so she and my friends and I have all decided to just go with the flow and give it a rest. We are giving the remainder of 2008 the finger and setting our sights on a new and glorious 2009...

...Yes, I know – another quickly thrown together collage of past images... But none the less - Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year everybody! Perhaps I'll get lucky and LaLaVox will allow me a bit of renewed activity here at MySpace in the meantime. But in case she doesn't manage it, all my best wishes to you, and I very much look forward to returning to your affectionate ranks in January of 2009...

All of my best wishes to you,

Mildred Mahler – cartoon character pin-up and virtual burlesque dancer

Well – rather more than a day late really... Our plans to get a Mardi Gras T-shirt design up into the shop in reasonable time for the Carnival season have failed miserably. We weren't able to get the white alligator costume ready on time, you see (and even if we had flown off to New Orleans to be with a real one - one of their indescribably rare blue-eyed white (leucistic) alligators, we couldn't have gotten closer to it than the glass surrounding it – not to mention the dangers of being a gator snack if we could have), and I won't even bother going into the list of other things that went wrong!

Perhaps N.O. Is insulted that I've left it for Berlin and has put some sort of subtle voodoo curse on me. But all I really wanted was to bring a bit of the N.O. Carnival spirit to Berlin – a least for myself. Karnival is celebrated all over Germany (also known as Fasching here), but none of the folks I hang with do Fasching. I, in fact, haven't done Fasching once since getting here (not in Berlin anyway – but don't tell anybody ;)).

We have put the Mardi Gras design in the shop in spite of all this though – although I'm pretty sure that only a U.S. based rush-order would get it there in time for Mardi Gras Day (aka Fat Tuesday - which is early this year). The design is just in there anyway - sort of on general principles. And it's here too, to be looked at – even if it is a bit of a disaster.... I hope you're having a wonderful Carnival season, New Orleans... I love you and I miss you! *sniff*

...A tiny peek at things to come - one design in two variations, adapted for application onto various items at the previously mentioned LaLaVox Shoppe...

As some of you already know, I, Mildred, of Mildred Loves You!, am a comic book character created by one LaLaVox. I sprang fully formed from her pencil one night while she was trying to design mermaids for cell-phone icons. The mermaids were looking too cute I suppose, and so I entered the world wearing a scowl and toting a knife.

Since then LaLaVox and her partners in crime, Urban Enzyme and Julie Ocean, have been slowly and but surely building a little universe for me and my roommates Kitty Derail and Thérése-Constance van Ticklinckx to dwell in. A full-sized many-paged comic is in the works for late Spring 2008. And postcards (4 designs - the blue one dolled up further with lace and/or tiny knives at times), buttons (various designs) a mini-comic/work-in-progess/teaser "fanzine", Mildred art dolls by Eklatant, frilly aprons in pink and black by Inken Onno, and assorted other goodies have also come into being. These have already been quietly presented in a couple of places here in Berlin. And they may soon be showing their faces in a DaWanda shop as well. I'll let you all know when that happens. ;)

In the meantime however, LaLaVox has finally bowed to suggestions and encouragement and has opened a Café Press shop which features a Mildred Loves You! section. Yes, my dears - that means me - on T-shirts, mugs, and other custom produced-on-demand goodies. Anyone who's curious can find it here:

The LaLaVox Shoppe

We hope you'll like it!

All the best to all of you!

Well, it seems as though this blighted year insists on coming to an end, and without me having managed to get everything seen to that should have been seen to before 2007 saw fit to leave. Okay. I give up then. Hopefully 2008 will start better than 2007 ended. At least I've made some really nice new friends along the way. There is a lot to be said for that!!! Happy New Year everybody!!!
