Woofstock & Mutt Strut 2008

The biggest dog festival in Humboldt County kicks off with the 14th Annual Mutt Strut - a Dog Parade through Old Town where canines and their human companions raise pledges to help homeless animals. Don't miss the dog contests - including the Weenie Dunking Contest, Best Costume, Dog/Owner Look-Alike, Best Wag and Best Woof! Visit our vendor village, with dog (and cat)-themed arts & crafts, plus local animal rescues featuring adoptable pets. Delicious food, locally brewed beer, and homemade margaritas - plus fabulous raffle prizes! Best of all, you can bring your 4-legged friend (leashed, of course).

P.S. Moms & Dads - bring your kids to meet Clifford the Big Red Dog, courtesy of KEET Ready to Learn. Don't miss it!

Music, News, Tour Dates, Discography and More!

Jackie Greene, the 'Prince of Americana' Jackie Greene has played in many high profile festivals across the country, including the Rhythm & Roots Festival, Doheny, the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals, and the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Dubbed “The Prince of Americana” by the New York Times, Jackie Greene is steeped in country, blues, jazz, rock and folk traditions, defying easy categorization.

Jackie Greene, a talented singer-songwriter, was born on November 27, 1980 in Monterey, California but grew up in small town Cameron Park. Greene has always been interested in music since an early age, and as a child, he taught himself how to play the piano and, subsequently, the guitar. At the age of sixteen, Greene began to sit in with bar bands at the local brewery, and as he got older, he also began composing his own songs and playing in coffeehouses. He recorded them in his own makeshift garage studio and burned them to sell at gigs. Using the money he saved, Greene was eventually able to record and release his first full-length disc, Rusty Nails, on his own.

After graduating from high school, Greene moved to Sacramento and began playing gigs there. Marty DeAnda, owner of local label DIG Music, noticed Greene at an open-mic session in 2001 and immediately signed him as the label’s first artist. Under DIG Music, Greene released his first formal CD, Gone Wanderin’, in late 2002, which won the California Music Award for the “Best Blues/Roots Album” in 2003 and remained on the national Americana charts for over a year. In 2004, Greene released his second formal CD, Sweet Somewhere Bound and began receiving major radio play and recognition for singles like “Honey I Been Thinking About You.”

Influenced by such music artists of Bob Dylan, Willie Nile, Billy Bragg and Cisco Houston to name a few, Greene has toured nationally with the likes of B.B. King, Huey Lewis, Susan Tedeschi, Taj Mahal, and Buddy Guy, and has played in many high profile festivals across the country, including the Rhythm & Roots Festival, Doheny, the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals, and the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Local Favorites Kulica Will Open for Jackie Greene
Kulica on Stage

Coming to you from Northern California, home of Humboldt County's own groove shakers Kulica (koo-lick-a) play a home-made groove rockin' feel good music that warms your soul. Their heartfelt music is gaining popularity at a rapid pace throughout the region. Kulica's style is a delicate mixture of Dave Mathews Band-like melodies with Jack Johnson and Ben Harper's soulful rhythms, including inspiring lyrics in the same vein as Van Morrison and David Gray, with a touch of old Doobie Brothers for good measure.

Kulica is led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Curtis Thompson, former bass player of Acoustic Junction (Capricorn Records). After the break-up of Acoustic Junction in '99, Curtis decided to continue his passion for music. With his guitar in one hand and a pencil and paper in the other, Curtis started writing songs for Kulica with his wife Julie on the bass, Jason Hodel on acoustic and electric mandolin, Dave Sandomeno on percussion and Nick Moore on drums. The combination of groove, funk, and soul shaking rhythms is an amazing blend that helps give Kulica its signature style.

FELINES OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY, UNITE!
Join us for our 1st Annual "Meow March" - a virtual cat walk, done entirely online and from the comforts of your own home (that's right, you don't even have to get your paws dirty!).
Using your mouse (the one attached to your computer, of course) you and your feline friend will raise funds for those less fortunate kitties that have been deprived of catnip, and - in some cases - even food, pets and a warm place to sleep.

Felines Surf the Web......And Keep Your Laptop Warm
"Meow March" is the feline counterpart to the Sequoia Humane Society's annual "Mutt Strut" (why should those drooling dogs have all the fun?) - and just like in the Mutt Strut you and your 4-legged companion collect pledges from friends, family and co-workers to…what…march? Finicky felines, no!
Register now for the "Meow March" and create your own webpage, where you can post photos of your feline friend for all to worship and pay homage to (or in this case, pledge).
For more information, or if you need help setting up your website, contact us at (707) 442-1782 or by email at humane@sequoiahumane.org.

HOW TO REGISTER
Registration is now available online! You can register yourself or your team and we will build you your own webpage so you can collect pledges online as well as in-person. Additionally, you will find tips for collecting pledges to help make the 1st Annual Meow March more fun and help more of the animals who need us.

COLLECTING PLEDGES
A Registration Form and Pledge Sheet are below (minimum $25 in pledges to participate). Additionally, we have partnered with FirstGiving.com so you can create your own web page to collect pledges online as well. All sponsorships made online are tallied right there on your own website. Checks may be made payable to the SEQUOIA HUMANE SOCIETY. Those who collect pledges totaling $100 or more will receive a free WOOFSTOCK T-Shirt and free entry into Contest events. The top three (3) pledge earners will be awarded fabulous prizes!

SHS Volunteers (new, active and inactive,

Unfortunately, on AOL there is not Blind Copy for me to make other volunteers unable to see your email addresses. As I send notices out to you, only SHS volunteers can view your email address in my updates/notices. Please keep the utmost discretion with the email addresses. Do not share this information. If you know a SHS person and need to email them for a SHS purpose (events, dogs, etc), that is fine, just send me a copy so I know that the email is going out for that purpose. This is just for the protection of the individuals. Plus, sometimes the SHS Board is included in emails and I don't want their emails being used.

If you have notices you wish for me to send out to our volunteers like animal-related events, SHS info, re-homing, fostering, or transportation needs of animals or lost/found animals, etc. Please send me all the information and I will try to send the notice out to the volunteers depending on the reason.

If we send you a request to forward to people you know (example ZooToo), please copy and paste into a new email window so that volunteers email addresses are kept private and are not passed on to random people.

I also request that you not sending out "forwards" to anyone within my email list, even if animal related, because some people can get aggravated with such things although some are cute and fun.

Thank you very much, and I will send this notice out in the future as a reminder.
