Current mood:  full

I know.... you've seen one cole slaw wrestling, you've seen 'em all, but I just wanted to share some of what I saw. I went on Saturday, because I was working on Wednesday. I pigged out on carnival food and cheap beer. It was a bit warm out there but alot of people showed up for the fun. I scored a couple CP shirts and a sunburn.

Here is a pic of the beer girls, who were walking around the inner perimeter selling  $2 drafts. See, I told you the beer was cheap.

A rear view!

Here is a close up pic of the beer girl in red's face. She would be beautiful, if it wasn't for all of the make up.

Here is a picture of my 1st fried twinky. It wasn't anything special, but I had to try one.

This is a pic of my favorite fatty of the bunch. Just look at the utter disgust on the faces of some of the audience. The lady with her head in her hands pretty much said it all. It was great!!

Here is a couple pics of the wrestlers together. Check out the Asian woman. She was too cute to be in there with the others...

The girl in the orange bottoms and white Tshirt won on Wednesday, and since I didn't stay for the eliminations,  she probably won yesterday also.

Then, last night I joined a couple friends downtown for drinks. I was a bit early, so I walked to the free Goo Goo Doll/ Lindsay Buckingham show on Orange Ave. I only stayed long enough to see the Goo Goo Dolls set. It wasn't bad. Lots of people were there.

Here's a pic of  Jeff Howell singing "His Favorite Damned Song".

Then there was the guy who decided to bring his dogs inside Caseys, so the dogs could enjoy Jeff's gig as much as the rest of us! HA!

Thats All Folks!!!

Current mood:  amused

I went back to Daytona on Monday. This time I concentrated on Main St. sites. It was a slow day, while I was there. Things were picking up as I left at about 3:00. I did get a couple pics though...

And  another....

And one more....

I'm going back on Friday. I'll try to get some good stuff to post!

The weather is finally turned nice, today. No more rain, clouds and too warm weather for bike week. I took a ride to the speedway hoping to catch a test ride on some bikes. Here is a BMW bike I rode.

It's a nice fast ride! I couldn't even use any gear higher than 3rd because these bikes are made to run at higher RPMs.

I also rode a Vulcan Nomad, but forgot to take a pic. It is a super comfortable dresser for not a whole lot of money. I may buy one of those when I get old. Ha!

I walked around the area where all the custom bike builders had their tents set up. Here's one I liked.

I tried to ride a Boss Hoss ( a motorcycle with a Chevrolet V8 engine), but the wait was too long, for the demo rides. I might go back early tomorrow to get on the list.

Beach St. was crowded but nothing like it will be later in the week. I think I'll do local bike stuff next weekend....

Saturday, February 24, 2007

Let me try this again! I went for some test rides on a couple motorcycles today. Seminole Power Sports had an anniversary celebration, with demo rides and stunt rider demonstrations.

This is the first bike I test rode. This bike was HEAVY but didn't feel too bad once you got moving. The handling was great for a bike so heavy. It is powered by a 6 cylinder engine, which I couldn't even hear, when I got above 45 mph. It sells for about $23k and doesn't even have self canceling turn signals! WTF?

This is the 2nd bike I rode. It rides like a Cadillac. Has cruise control, a reverse gear, and every other gadget known to man. Too many gadgets for me. If I wanted to feel like I was in a convertible, I wouldn't be riding a motorcycle! But.... It felt as light as a feather to ride.

Current mood:  tired

You ever had one of those colds, where you have a hacking cough for about 3 weeks? It looks like I'm into the 2nd week of one.

Onto funner subjects... I had a great weekend on the motorcycle. The weather cooled down and the bikefests have started! This weekend was the Sanford Bikefest, which is small, but it's only the 2nd year that it has been held. It will grow into a mammouth sized party within a few years. I went there on Saturday, saw some live music, drank some cheap liquor and enjoyed being at Lake Monroe.

This morning, I met up with a co worker and rode up to Ormond Beach to Destination Daytona, for the Camp Boggy Creek  Ride For The Children.  We met at Cracker Barrel, ate breakfast, then hit the interstate. We got there with about a 1/2 hour to spare. We ate doughnuts, drank coffee and did some hanging out with James Gandolfini and Aida Turturro. They are just your typical Paisans! HA... with a shitload of money.

The ride journeyed through Lake County through some small towns on the way to Eustis. When we got to the camp, I pigged out on ceasar salad, steak, and chicken from Outback Steakhouse.

I stopped by the Sanford Bikefest on the way home, just in time for the drawing for the chopper giveaway... i didn't win it. Damn it man....

I am now home, and just saw that the Eagles lost to the Saints by a field goal... oh well, so it goes. I can't complain... I had a great day!

A couple of friends of mine, have a son, who participates in improvisational comedy at Sak Comedy Club in downtown Orlando. They invited me and others view a competition between 2 groups of 4 people called the Lab Rats.
It was incredible and very funny. It last about 2 hours and I laughed almost the whole time.
The moderator gives the groups different concepts and parameters to each "competition". It is all done on the fly. 3 people in the audience were the judges. There was much audience participation. If you get a chance to check it out, it is well worth the money... all $2! The best live comedy deal around!

A friend of mine just got her motorcycle license this week and will be getting her bike next week. Congrats Debe!! Can't wait to ride with you! I haven't been riding much lately, due to the freakin' African heat. I usually go out in the early a.m. and done by 11, because it's just too hot! Ha! The cooler temps can't get here soon enough!

It's FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!! GO EAGLES!!!!!!

I took a trip up north for a few days to help celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday. The flight up went really well. The plane was crowded but not packed full.

When we landed in Philly,my suitcase was the 2nd bag to come down the shute at the airport. That one little thing gave me the feeling, it was gonna be a great time. ha!

After stopping to pick up a pizza and a cheesesteak sub, it was on to my Moms, to surprise her on her birthday. She was very happy to see me. She didn't expect me to be there, since I told her  that I wouldn't be able to go up, due to having had 2 weeks off to be there in April, when she had open heart surgery.

My sister, was running late (as usual) so she didn't get there to surprise our Mom, until about 1 a.m. She drove up from Charlotte. She wouldn't fly up, because it took her 21 hours to get home last April, due to fuck ups at US Air.

On Saturday, we hired a limo to take 10 of us to Marras, an old Italian restaurant in South Philly. My Mom would go there as a teen to eat the brick oven pizza. They are still owned by the same family. We met some more of our relatives there. The food was good, but not as good as it could have been. The gnocchi that I ordered was cooked too long, so it was mushy... who likes mushy macaroni???  I also had some ravioli, which was excellent. My sister picked up an italian rum cake for dessert. It was great!

On Sunday, we wanted to take our Mom to Atlantic City to do some gambling. She complained that her foot was swollen and better not go.... then her sisters called her to see if she wanted to go to bingo. Her ears sprung up, and suddenly her foot didn't bother her as much. ha! She's a bingoholic

So... it was my sis and I headed to A.C. for a night of gambling! She wanted to go to The Borgata, but I had no luck there the last time that I went,so I said "let's go to one of the Trump places". We ended up going to Caesars, which is next to the Trump Plaza. We went into Caesars, which was redone not long ago. My sis wanted to play roulette, so we checked it out. The lowest tables were $15, so I said lets walk on the boardwalk to Trumps place. It was then that we found out that Madonna was playing there that night. The boardwalk was packed with people.

So when we got to Trump Plaza, we went directly to the roulette tables. They had $10 tables. I pulled out $200 and got 8 $25 chips. I put $50 down on the 1st column and let it spin..... i lost. I put another $50 down, and I won $100! I took the $100 off and left $50 and won another $100! I moved the chips to another column and won another $100! The next time I lost, so I was still up $300! I told my sis, I was gonna walk around, and she started gambling.

I came back and she was up about $200. There was a guy standing next to her putting down $100 and $500 chips on single numbers. He was losing like nobodys business. He told my sis that his band opened for Sheryl Crow the night before, and that he lost $80,000. He was down another $150,000 while he was at the same table as my sister. He asked the pit boss what his limit was, and the pit boss said "200 and you have 10 left". He signed the note, and got the last $10,000. He lost that in about 20 minutes. I had never seen someone blow that much money at a casino. It was incredible. That money could have bought a new Bentley! So I went for another walk, while my sis continued to win. I came back later to watch her put $20 on 00 and it hit! $700 on one spin. She was ahead $1000 by this time. I said " let's go!" She wanted to stay, so after she lost $500 of it, she said "ok, let's go". By this time, it was 3 a.m. I was still up about $75, so I can't complain...

On the flight home on Monday, there was a bad storm over OIA, so we couldn't land... we got low on fuel, so we had to fly back to Jacksonville, land, refuel, and then fly back to Orlando... I was 2 hours late getting back, but all in all, it was a fun time.

Current mood:  drunk
Tonight I experienced my first wine tasting  experiment.... not that I don't like wine. It's just that I never drink much of it. Now in my 40's, I guess I'm finally mellowing to a new approach to meeting women. I went to Urban Flats in Winter Park for the Wednesday wine tasting. Ya know what? It was kind of cool. Lots of Winter Park women, but it seemed like they are all in clicks, which I shall infiltrate in the coming weeks! It starts at 5 and ends at 8. A nice hump day buzz, if I say so....

Current mood:  nostalgic

I worked half a day on Friday so I could be ready for the Monsters Anniversary Party at Hard Rock Live. Alot of my friends have moved on from doing anything related to The Monsters, but I have met so many people at the events, I still like to go to events if not for anything else, to see and party with friends that I only get to see during the two or so times each year that the Monsters play.

I scored some free tickets, and snuck in some 151, so I was ready to party! This year was probably the least expensive time at HRL for me. Usually, I have 2 beers in my hands most of the evening. Even though I was feeling no pain, I managed to not spill anything on the white shirt I wore ( that might be a drinking first for me! HA!). Soul Brother Kevin did a great job of entertaining the crowd, and the Monsters had the crowd on their feet the whole night.

After the show, we went to Cigarz, then back to the hotel for the late night party. Since Leesburg Bikefest was in town, there were alot of bikers around. We were blessed with Hispanic bikers on our floor. I thought they would out party us, but I guess they crashed early on Friday night, to go to Leesburg early on Saturday morning.

On Saturday morning, I had a slight hangover, so when I got home I took a nap. I woke up at about 3 p.m. , ate and went to Leesburg on the bike. It was perfect weather for riding . Luckily, I brought my jacket or else it would have been a cold ride home.

Leesburg Bikefest rocked! I met up with a couple of bikers on my way up there. We got to Main St. at about 5:30 and the place was packed. They had 3 stages with continuous live music. There were vendors and bike displays all over the side streets. I liked it almost as much as Daytona. It had a small town feel to it. Lots of Lake County families out on a Saturday night just checking things out.

Foghat was on the main stage at about 9 so I checked them out. They just aren't the same without Lonesome Dave singing lead. I left at about 10:30 with a group of bikers headed back to Orlando on 441. One guy on a Harley Dyna, was leading the pack, running 80-85 all the way down to Apopka, where I came over on 436 to Altamonte.

On Sunday, I woke up. looked outside and it looked like it was gonna rain, so I went back to bed for a while. When I woke up this time, the clouds were clearing, so I was back out on the bike, riding to my favorite grilled cheese sandwich making bar, and then more riding. It was a great weekend for riding indeed...

Current mood:  relieved

I've been out of town for the past two weeks, due to my Mom having a heart attack, and quad by pass surgery. She's doing fine in her recovery.

I flew up to Philly on April 1st and went immediately to Cooper hospital in beautiful Camden, NJ. This town has almost nothing going for it, except this hospital and the world headquarters for Campbells Soup. I love soup...

Anyway, she had to have tests done  to determine if an adrenal tumor was going to effect the open heart surgery. The doctors said that they hadn't seen a case like this since the 70's. Not a very comforting factor.

To make a short story shorter, the tumor didn't effect the surgery and the surgery is a huge success. Hopefully, the tumor won't grow and she will be able to live with it.

While she was in the hospital, my sister and I spent the most time together, since we both moved away from home. She and I couldn't be more different in our life styles. She is a workaholic, selling real estate in Charlotte, wouldn't be seen in jeans, or sneakers, and drives a Benz. I on the other hand, almost only wear jeans or cargo shorts, only care if I can pay the rent, have money to party with,  drive a jap car and ride a jap motorcycle! ha! But we seemed to get along pretty well for the past two weeks.

We ate at many different diners in the time I was in Jersey. I hadn't really been in many diners, in years up there. My Mom always was cooking something good, so I never had a reason to go.  The most lavish one was a place called Peters Diner, on the Black Horse Pike. This place had all of the shiny chrome but the bathroom had marble walls! ha! The food blew me away. It was amazing, especially for a diner.

I am just happy that my Mom is doing well, and I am finally home again. I didn't even mind going to work today after traveling and getting  4 hours sleep last night!

Current mood:  awake

Saturday was here and it was time to kick the party into high gear! Soop had Ministry and Green Day blaring from the stereo and the weather was the warmest of the week. After coffee, I made some extra strong, extra spicy Bloody Marys for Sue, Soop, and I. That got rid of the slight hangover from the night before.

Sue cooked  eggs, home fries, and sausage for us for breakfast. After breakfast, Missy made up a sign warning others about entering our camping area. It read " Residential Hood. Caution! Riff Raff Ahead!"

We switched to our 2nd keg of beer with a big thanks going out to Jack for bringing it, along with $160 of extra beef and ice, for the party. A couple of ladies, from the Daytona Journal stopped by and interviewed us and took some pictures.

Our new neighbors, across from us moved in. WE went over to check out the girls in the group. One of the girls, has a boyfriend who is a bus driver for one of the drivers...I can't remember which driver, but it didn't matter anyway. Her name was Amanda and cute. The rest of our group decided that they were cops and stuck up, so we didn't hang much with them. Apparently, they had friends with the Dayonta Police, because a couple of them stopped by to visit with them. I was downing the beers fast and was ready for a nap by 1 p.m.!

I woke up, refreshed and ready for the Busch race. The race was great, with Tony Stewart taking the checkered flag. His car for the race was the nicest metallic red paint job that I had ever seen on a nascar. After the race we drank, and visited neighbors.

Drew set up his badass telescope and zeroed in on Saturn. People from all over stopped by to check it out. Later in the evening, I headed down to Taterville, an area of turn 4 that has been in existence for at least 10 years. A friend invited us to hang out with them. They were cooking up venisson burgers. They needed some fire wood, so few of us headed back to our camp to bring them some extra fire wood. We stayed around there for a bit , then headed back to camp to find the Energizer Bunny, aka Soop, passed out in a chair, and his telescope out in the open. John and I put the scope away and  just left Soop passed out in the chair. Everyone crashed at about 2:30 a.m.  Next is Daytona 500 Sunday!
