Well, I realise it has been a while since I have written a blog... so I thought I would update you on all things riotous.

Firstly, perhaps some thoughts on our tour with Seth Lakeman. We have been having a ball. We have been back now for a few weeks and we will be heading away again next week. The tour began in Cambridge and it was lovely to come back and play there, we hadn't been back since we played the Folk Festival last year... The first leg of the tour was 11 dates and I would say that Cambridge was the most sober of the dates we played (we tended to drink the nights away watching Seth play and signing cd's at the merch stall).

We have been very well looked after, everyone is lovely, there have been many beers drunk, lots of hangovers, lots of late nights and lots of fun, I have really missed being on tour this last few weeks while we have been back and can't wait to get back into it on the next leg.

Highlights for this leg include:
Big Hands - late night party in Manchester (thanks to Nick from Gideon Conn's band for putting us up that night)
Liquid Cocaines (the alcoholic drink)
The Saturday night sights of Sailsbury (what was that naked fat man doing???)
Nottingham - battered sausage and chips (yum)
My Dahlia dresses (which were kindly given to me by the label... have a look at their site on our link).
Edd's excellent Gok like style suggestions
Dan's near death experience in the van whilst searching for food in the middle of no-where

Well, during the break from touring I have been busy writing away, and we have been working on new songs together. The gym where we rehearse is getting ever colder and I am sure that before long we will need to buy another heater, but in the meantime at least it stops us from standing still for too long.

I am very excited about the new songs... we are hoping to record at least some of them by March, if not the new album.

As we sold out of t-shirts (and albums) on tour we have a new t-shirt coming for the next leg. I designed it and it is not ready yet so I am nervous, but it is using our new no 6 logo and I am hoping it will look most excellent.

Also, we will be heading on tour ourselves in Feb, so watch this space for tour dates and stuff and things.

Wishing you all a warm time... I am freezing cold today!

Cup of char perhaps.

Lots a love

Tamara

Hey Guys,

We are delighted to announce that we will be supporting Seth Lakeman on his UK tour in Nov and Dec...

Exciting times!

We have played many a festival with Seth over the last few years and it is great to have the opportunity to come on tour with him.

We will be playing some of the dates as a 4 piece, but we are hoping we can get the whole band for the London date and maybe a few others...

Meanwhile we are playing a gig for Oxfam on 2nd Nov, so dig deep in your pockets and come along and support a very important cause.

I have had a lovely little holiday and I am feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Ideas for new merch for the tour is welcome... and anyone that wants to help me with the routing and budgets are also welcome :)

Lots a love and fun

Current mood:  thoughtful
I have been feeling reflective as we are finally getting some time to gather our thoughts after the release of this album. Running the label myself means that sometimes I don't have much time to think about what has been achieved.

I am so happy with the reaction we have received for the album, the press, the radio, support from our loyal fans, plus the new ones we have now managed to win over. And so it seems a great time to have a breather, write some new songs and take in what we have been up to so far this year.

For those of you that don't know, we recorded the album at the Pool, which was a massive open plan studio, in only 6 days. We spent months getting the songs ready so that we could record the tracks live and overdub only a few instruments, we even did vocals live on three of the tracks. We didn't have an obscene budget, we didn't have an A&R team (just our honest friends and family) and I even painted the artwork myself. We have found support in our PR and plugging teams that have worked so hard for us, Steve Lamacq, Nemone, Janice Long, Pete Paphides, and festivals like Greenman, Lounge on the Farm and Eddie that books Cambridge Folk Festival have all backed us and believed in us. Not bad for our tiny little cottage industry.

We have already begun writing new songs, I have melody ideas that I record on my phone sometimes whilst walking down the street, the clip clop of my heels creates a rhythm and I end up humming to myself, and writing songs... you can tell I must always be in a hurry as so many songs are up beat. Having time with the guitar or uke and sitting down and playing ideas to the band and beginning to work on the songs together has been so much fun. When you spend so much time gigging and doing the business side of things you can almost forget how special the creative side can feel.

We have a few more gigs this weekend and the following weekend and then we will be getting our next single ready for release in November (cue some more painting and hopefully another music video).

In a time when every label is trying to find the answer to making money in the business, it can be a struggle to know what the best course of action is. But I am excited about what the coming months will bring; some more tours (hopefully in some other countries but I can't give too much away just yet) the recording of the new album and I hope we will have more people still discovering this latest one.

So, thanks to everyone that has bought the album, listened on Spotify and told a friend about us... now come down and watch us play this weekend if you get a chance.

Much love,

Tamara

Current mood:  romantic
Having written my all time most successful blog whilst drunk a few weeks ago I have been avoiding writing my next blog until I am once again at my most humourous or at least most opinionated. However, I am taking the risk and I am going to write this on a sunny day in London having only drunk water today.

We are nearing the end of summer festival season. I can't believe how it has flown. In fact we have barely had any time off since we recorded the album in January and here we are: pinch, punch first day of the month... September!

I have finally managed to get my writing hat back on after being so heavily involved in gigs, interviews and the business side of the band for the last few months, ideas have been flowing once again and I am excited about where we are going to take our new recordings.

Meanwhile we have put up a cover of Tusk by Fleetwood Mac on the myspace player, we have been playing it all summer since we had a vote on 6 music to pick the cover that we should play at Glasto, and since then it has not left our set, it is the most fun to play live... especially as I don't play an instrument on the song (well finger cymbals if they count) so I get to whirl around the stage clapping and dancing like a fool. The recording on myspace is a live version from Green Man.. (which was super fun by the way).

Other riotous news:
Dan has had yet another holiday and is by far the most tanned in the band
I have celebrated my birthday and feel older and not wiser
Sophie has been doing a lot of swing dancing
Edd is moving house
Caspar is going to become a Tai Chi guru
Alex is now teaching trumpet at Uni

Other Festival news:
At Green Man festival we all dressed in green and wore green masks (some tried harder than others...)
Solfest was the windiest festival yet, Edd nearly fell over with his bass and my dress flew up in the air.
Climate Camp had the best Yadada's of the summer so far, which included some Cossack Dancing.

Perhaps I should stick to drunken rambles...

We will be heading on tour again in the autumn (details to follow, but this will be no ordinary tour).

Much love,

Tamara

PS look out for our video for O Those Kids on Topshop TV and Heathrow Airport TV. And if you know Fleetwood Mac ask them if we can support them on tour... you never know!

Current mood:  drunk
As I sit here thinking about things and perhaps having had one too many (most of the band will agree that this is when I am at my funniest on stage, though perhaps not in written word)...

A few weeks ago I caught up with a friend of mine who is a journalist and he mentioned pulling the plug on the internet... That big imaginary one that lives somewhere in the U.S of A. Anyway, I thought.

1. Well, wouldn't that make life easier for bands, artists, film makers and writers, no more freebies for you cheapskates...

2. Well, how would I contact everyone...

3. How would we promote our band

4. How would I find where I was going when I am lost... a map? surely not.

5. How would I know what was constantly going on in the world.

Best leave the internet as it is me thinks, for one, you would suffer from my lack of interesting blog nonsense.

So, late night rambling and drunken thoughts

Current mood:  blissful
Hello Folks,

Hope you are fine and dandy?

Well, it has been a somewhat relaxing time in the Riot camp for us. We have had a mini break from the festival madness that has been our summer and we have all had a break or some time to ourselves which has been much needed and gratefully received.

Last week we played a gig at the Wilmington Arms and it was awesome, such a great crowd, brilliant atmosphere and we played one of our best sets yet. We hadn't played in London for a wee while and it was great having people in the front row singing along to Run and one of the best Yadada sessions ever.

So, tonight we have a gig at Boogaloo which will be much fun with a lovely line-up and then we continue with festival season, with Green Man next weekend, I can't wait, I have a green dress for the occassion as it is my birthday, although I am contemplating suggesting we all dress up for the gig, just deciding on the theme.. ideas welcome.

I have been managing the release for the latest album and it has been hard work I tell you. Although it has been going very well for us.. the music business is in such a strange place, it seems impossible to get people to buy cds, it is all about digital these days. Once people see our lovely artwork at gigs they tend to buy the cd though, and still we are selling, but it seems such a shame that people will own the music without the artwork and the lyrics... And then there is Spotify, why buy anything when you can listen for free on there... by the way the new album is up there now so go spoti-crazy:)

So as I try (along with the entire industry) to find some answers of what the best way forward to keep the compact disc alive and kicking, we are continuing with what we know best, writing, gigging and planning some exciting new ideas.. to be revealed soonish. Meanwhile as the rain is chucking it down outside, again, I am praying for sun next weekend (at least selfishly while we are on the main stage).

And also we have had such wonderful reviews for the album, I will try and post some of them up here for you. It is great to work so hard at something and get such an amazing reaction, sometimes when you are so involved in the process of writing, recording, planning, gigging and such like you forget how important it is that people enjoy and appreciate what it is that you have made. And to have the critics support and indeed praise is so wonderful... not to mention you guys, who have written to us, emailed us and bought our album... So Thanks!

Our new single O Those Kids is out next week and the video will be "music video of the week" on 6 music, I will be in the studio with Iria Lopez who directed the video talking to Cerys Matthews about the song etc.. on Monday so listen out if you can.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Speak soon

Tamara

Hello everyone and anyone...

It is not that often that I get round to writing a blog post or anything.  Usually I'm busying myself with playing bass or updating our website that seems to have a mind of its own.  Besides, Tamara's better at it anyway!

So, this is just a quick one to let people know that I've just got round to finishing the 6 day riot forum.  This is place for people to post about anything, 6 day riot related or not, that you want other riot fans or us to read.  We will drop by from time to time and answer any questions or thoughts you guys have!

You can find a link to the forum on the 6 day riot website in the bottom right corner, for some reason the powers of myspace will not let me post the direct link!

So please sign up and comment, make new threads if you like!  Make me feel like I didn't waste time building the thing!
I didn't really know what categories people would want, so I just started with a few.

Anyway that is enough from me, have a nice day and we'll see you at a gig soon hopefully!

Edd

Hey Guys,

Anyone due to come to the Edinburgh Show, please note that Sneaky Pete's has closed for a bit, and has cancelled our show, however, we are moving the gig to the Wee Red Bar, near Edinburgh Art School. The tickets should transfer across, but please speak to PCL about that, if not the tickets on the door will be £5 and you will be refunded for the Sneaky Pete's tickets by the venue.

Looking forward to it, if not a little stressed about it!

I am so tired, I think I am still recovering from Glasto, I don't know how that can be, but there we go.

Saturday at LOTF, that was fun... we had a packed out tent and yadada's a plenty. I can honestly say I have never been so hot on stage before, Dan came off like he had been on an epic marathon, sweat everywhere, Caspar's glasses kept falling off his nose, so he had to chuck them away mid set. Was fun, fun, fun.

Then we had a call from a friend, congratulating us on our 4* review in The Times for the album, woo hoo! marvellous, fantabulous.

Anyway, big thanks to anyone that voted for us last week, we are currently the "pick 'n' mix" single of the week on Radcliffe/Maconie, and we are being played every day this week.

We are heading to Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival this weekend, it is run by the TUC, and we are considering getting River Clyde ready to play live for the first time ever, can't think of a more fitting place to play the song. But as ever time is against us and I am unsure if we can have it ready in time.

The week has just begun, but these days the weeks are over before they begin with our current schedule. I also need to deliver more CDs to our distribution company too, that can be no bad thing.

Speak soon,

Tamara and team 6DR
