Did you know that every year more than 100 passionate dancing volunteers make this event happen? We want YOU to be one of the volunteers this year!

In return, you get tickets either for free or a half price, depending on number of hours you put in.

Tasks are easy. You will be able to take workshops, attend parties, dance all night, compete all you want, see the show, and have a pride of making the event that leads the dance community. Plus, you are not required to work ridiculous number of hours!

The volunteer application site has just opened. The earlier you apply, the better chance to secure your spot. More than 80 positions are available, so apply today!

Sweet! Game on! So, I actually do get to comment on this as well and I must say, I completely agree!!!!
I've been the the Mayan a few times myself, though I've never ventured off the salsa level. The venue itself does have to be seen. Salsa in LA seems to primarily exist in established bars and restaurants, so it's really a more authentic "Club" experience to visit this virtual palace with it's grand stage, giant disco balls, video screens, and light fx. But, some of the criticisms Matti brought up are completely legitimate.
1)When you're caught up in a hot Rumba, volume can be a good thing, but the fact is, you have to go outside to hear YOURSELF, let alone your friend. That can be a good thing when you deal with the fact that it can be...
2)A meat market. You're bound to face that anytime you're dealing with a cross cultured club. Salsa is a dance of passion, but also roles. And the roles of a gentleman are not characteristic for many other club genres. Women AND MEN, you may receive aggressive attention not related to your excellent footwork and spinning skills! Speaking of spinning....
3)My good friend and excellent dancer Espie Hernandez says shoes and floor is irrelevant (I've seen her do 10 perfect spins in flipflops), but I can't hang. The cement floor does a number on my shins.
4)And finally price. This is a funny one, because we all know if nothing else is true about the salsa community, this one thing is....WE ARE CHEAP!!!!! Don't even try to front like you're not! But who can help it!? When a moderate dancer goes out 3 times a week and an addict is on the floor upwards of 1 or MORE clubs per NIGHT, you can't afford to drop 20 to 40 per fix for yourself or you and a date, NOT including drinks.

That said, my boyfriend, the fabulous DJ Ricky El Gozador, LOVES the Mayan. There's a certain culture there... I believe it calls to him. It's elegance. It is the salsa aristrocracy that occasionally blesses the dance floor with a nonchalant visit of showstopping patterns before returning to their snifter of cognac on the rocks. They lean barely glistening in their layers of couture and we common folk wonder how they can't possibly be sweating in all that finery! The men, in their scarves, dark glasses and tailored jackets, are as beautiful as the woman they float on their arms.
All in all, the Mayan is loved for the experience of it. After all, who wouldn't want to be magically transported to such unequivical glamour, believing themselves in the midst of gracing their very own red carpet.

Hey all,
Welcome to my club review! Now, here's the rub, I actually have to stay in good standing with many of these clubs, so I'm going to come from the positive perspective. If there's something I'd like to see better, I'll do my best to word it nicely or say nothing really at all.

So if you see I went to club "Wish It Had Salsa" and the review looks like this:

DON"T GO TO THAT CLUB!!!!!!!!!!
Let's just say I'm practicing what my mommy dearest always taught me. "If you have nothing nice to say......well you know the rest."

That said, DO NOT APPLY THAT RULE TO YOURSELF! What I'd like to see is replies to the blog with the full monty so to speak. Spill your guts, put it all on the table. If the waitress stole your shoes, if the guys breath was hotter than last weeks garbage, if the dj thought Livin' La Vida Loca was SALSA!!!!! Put it in there! This should fill in some of our less traveled salseros in case of future club visitation and provide for some comic relief in our daily travels until the evenings fresh outing.

Let the reality BEGIN!!!!
