Here's her winning essay:
It is in my opinion, that it is the small instances in your life that could change it completely. In all my life, two instances come to mind. The first was when my grandmother taught me how to thread a sewing machine, which later inspired my taste for fashion. Just this one act of sharing, lead me down the silk chiffon path to opening my very own fashion boutique. Walls lined in neon taffeta skirts, and combination silk cashmere gowns, I live my life in color, surrounded by everything I’ve worked hard for. This brings me to the second instance I spoke of earlier. Before I could get to my dream place, my colorfully lined endeavor, I had to fall hard.
While I was studying at college my mother lost her job. The first thought that occurred to me was that I would have to quit school, move back home and help my mother provide. But in the span of 24 hours some kind of miracle happened. A young entrepreneur who had worked hard his whole life purchased his first company. He then hired back everyone who worked in the building prior to his purchasing it. He gave my mother her job back. When I look back on all of this it makes me realize that if I hadn’t visited my grandmother that day, or if I hadn’t expressed a desire to sew, if I hadn’t gone away to college, and if that man hadn’t worked so hard in his college career, and if he hadn’t, out of the kindness of his heart, hired my mom back, then I would not be here today. I would not be an entrepreneur myself, owning my very own fashion boutique, doing what I loved. And to all these happenings, I am grateful, but I am more grateful that I now have the privilege to do something kind too, that might change someone’s life. Because it is these small instances that can make the biggest difference. With my $100 I would like to donate it to UNICEF’s education goals. Their education goals range from providing classrooms for students to making sure students are fed. I think that education is so important and that after you have grown as a person, you will also be able to do something right for someone else. Congrats, Veronica!

Jacqueline S. from Arroyo High School is the winner of yesterday's prize, a bottle of the new YSL scent Parisienne (valued at $85). Here's her winning essay: After the exhaustion and stress of designing the collection I've been so dedicated to all this season, it's finally done and exceeded my expectations. The structured blazers, the embellished pencil skirts, the chiffon blouses and the towering heels made the collection a story. After everything this season, I want to donate to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Although animals may not be able to speak, they don't deserve to be beaten and abused day after day. Any donation helps animals in need and I would be honored to.

Patricia N. of Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove won yesterday's prize, a $75 Urban Outfitters Gift Certificate. Here's her winning essay: My hands are shaking, at the same time I’m going crossed-eyed--seems like I’m already developing arthritis at the age twenty five. Pulling all nighters, skipping meals, not satisfied until every stitch that I put love into has met my expectations. Bold colors with a hint of neon radiating a person’s skin tone. By capturing the fluorescent of a woman’s curve, I decided to design uniquely shaped clothes for people who love to be the center of interest. Stylish monsters began to dazzle on into the boutique as they were astonished by the clothes. The fall collection was such an ultra hit that I donated one hundred dollars to Stanford University Charity Fashion Show. Students can embark their minds and continue to grow their passion for fashion, become more creative by experimenting in every possible way! I will now be collaborating with them, to share with them my creative eye.
Congrats, Patricia!

Here's the winning essay: Countless hours of designing the perfect winter collection paid of well, with help from the design team, who quickly stitched, pinned, and cut the fabrics. The new winter collection was inspired by bold colors, textures, and the simplicity of line. Nothing too elaborate, wearable garments that had my signature touches. Women flocked into the boutique, purchasing garments that easily fused with their wardrobes, and bought gifts for the holiday season. The Autumn/ Winter collection was entirely sold out! The boutique’s income was more than expected, and we thought we should help a good cause. We donated one hundred dollars to the Designers Against Aids (DAA) to help with Aids awareness in the media. Our boutique is now designing a collection for this cause.

Here's her winning essay: If I had my own fashion boutique, and had an increase in my profits, to spread love to charities, I would donate to the Big Brothers Big Sisters. I believe that all children need somebody in their lives who can be an excellent role model, because mentors in life are hard to come by. I would want to donate my extra $100 dollars to give children the tools they need in life. Through Big Brothers Big Sisters, the children I’d be supporting will reap the rewards of having a mentor in their life, forever. By donating, I am preventing insecurities in children, with one dedicated mentor at a time.
