Dansettes Fans,

As Nouvellas have proven, there is still some damn good music to be made in a world without the Dansettes. It is in that spirit that we unveil the latest spinoff of the Dansettes family.

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting...THE SWEET DIVINES!

The Sweet Divines are a powerhouse quartet of female vocalists, including Dansette Jennie Wasserman ("Money Tree") and three more of NYC's strongest, sassiest, and sexiest soul-singing sisters. Backing them up is the devastatingly heavy Divine Soul Rhythm Band, a handpicked group of soul specialists led by Dansettes organist/bandleader J.B. Flatt.

The Sweet Divines' repertoire features a batch of funky new tunes AND some never-recorded Dansettes originals – all presented with that trademark old-school soul sound and vintage style.

Get out yer calendars and yer red pens! Their first live appearance will take place FRIDAY, JANUARY 18 at Magnetic Field in Brooklyn!

In the meantime, you can listen to the Sweet Divines debut recordings on MySpace: the brand new "Honeythistle" and two other tunes that will no doubt be familiar to fans of Dansettes live shows. Escort your ears over to:

www.myspace.com/thesweetdivines

You can also download "Honeythistle" for FREE by visiting the Sweet Divines website and joining the mailing list. But the download is available until December 4th ONLY! So go, go, go to:

www.thesweetdivines.com

Enjoy the music, and we'll see you soon!

xoxo,

The Sweet Divines

Dear Dansettes Fans,

We promised to keep you posted on new projects so it is with much delight that we introduce the Nouvellas!
Nouvellas is a new soul group consisting entirely of former Dansettes members. Jaime Kozyra is back with Leah Fishman to share some exciting dual vocals while Andy, Dennis, and Justin are backing the ladies up with a stripped down three piece formation.

We have been busy writing new original songs and we're excited to announce an upcoming performance!

October 19th, 2007 - 7PM
CMJ Showcase @ Magnetic Field
97 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn
with The Above, The Brought Low, and The Insomniacs

If you were a fan of the Dansettes, we'd love for you to be our friend at myspace.
Stop by and check out our new song "Satisfied"!

Dear Friends and Fans:

In September 2003, the Dansettes first gathered in the East Village to play three cover songs for what was supposed to be their only show. More than sixty gigs and almost four years later, we've made the difficult decision to pack it in.

Thanks to you, we've had a blast and enjoyed amazing support from hundreds of great folks. The whole experience has been one pleasant surprise after another.

Even though the Dansettes are no more, the voices, songs, and spirit of the group will continue. All of the former members of the Dansettes plan to keep performing, individually and/or in various combinations. We'll use MySpace and our mailing list to give you a heads up once any new projects take shape.

In the meantime, you can reach us collectively (info@thedansettes.com) or personally:

Leah Fishman - Singer
J.B. Flatt - Organist/Songwriter
Jaime Kozyra - Singer
Andrew Pierce - Drummer
Dennis Pierce - Guitarist
Jennie Wasserman - Singer
Management - Lee Greenfeld/Dead Flowers Productions

Thanks are due to past members who helped us along:
Tom Ward - Bass Guitarist
"Lady" Dawn Carrington - Singer/Founder
Justin Angelo Morey - Bass Guitarist

And of course, many, many thanks to y'all, Dansettes fans!!

xoxo,

The Dansettes

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the impending departure of the one-and-only, dynamic, Miss Jaime Kozyra from the Dansettes. Jaime is the little woman with the big voice who has dazzled audiences from Austin to Boston for the past three years with her killer renditions of "Oh My!", "Don't Tempt Me", "Don't You Ever", "Forty Days" and more.

Jaime will continue with the Dansettes through June before leaving to focus on other, no-doubt fabulous, musical undertakings in NYC. We wish her the very best and can't wait to see what she does next. New York-area fans will still have two more opportunities to witness the current line-up of the Dansettes (see the upcoming shows listed on our main profile page).

But fear not, soul fans, the Dansettes will continue, and this is where we could use your help. We're on the hunt for a new Dansette!

If you've ever been to a Dansettes show and thought, "Oh my good lord, my sister/cousin/roommate/friend would be PERFECT in this group," NOW is the time to send her to us! Or perhaps YOU have always harbored a secret desire to be a Dansette. Well, sister, keep it a secret no longer!

The criteria? We're looking for a young lady with an old-school soul sensibility, who can pack a wallop a la Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Tina Turner, Sharon Jones, or even Janis Joplin. Sound like you or someone you know? If so, get in touch! If not, please help us spread the word.

Interested folks should write us at auditions@thedansettes.com. Once you get in touch, we'll send you more information and a few instructions about the audition process, already in progress.

xoxo,

Thursday, April 06, 2006

We had so much fun at SXSW!  Here are some highlights of our visit:

-     Jennie and Jaime were interviewed for New York Noise while waiting for their delayed flight at LaGuardia.   New York Noise is on Tuesdays at 10pm on NYC Channel 25.   The SXSW episode might air next week, so tune in.  We hope we made the cut!

-     We walked around Austin in our Dansettes T-shirts, because there is no shame in self-promotion.

-     We got to see the Wu Tang Clan perform backed by the excellent El Michels Affair, also from NYC.

-     We played our official SXSW showcase at The Continental Club.  A great crowd, a great club, and a great show overall.

-     We saw The New Mastersounds perform live.  Definitely be sure to check them out.  They are fantastic!

-     We played a great show at The Tap Room, which was recorded by Lee Ann from The Lascivious Biddies. Listen to Lee Ann's podcast which features our live performance of "Hip Drop" here: http://mp3.biddycast.podshow.com/2006/03/BiddyCast_067.mp3

-     We sang "Hip Drop" for Eddie Bo and we think he liked it!!!

-     We played our favorite R&B, soul, and funk records at Six Lounge for a crowd of rooftop revelers.

-     We went to the mini Ponderosa Stomp showcase which featured Archie Bell, Barbara Lynn, and Eddie Bo all of whom we got to meet after the show!  If you didn't catch them in Austin, be sure to go to Ponderosa Stomp this year in Memphis, May 8 - 10.

-     We sang back-up vocals for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings on "You're Gonna Get It" at Antone's.  So much fun!

We were so busy, we only took a couple photos.  Click here to see them!
