I recently participated in MoveOn.org's phone calling campaign. I called about 75 voters in North Carolina and another 150 ish in NH and it was awesome. The Dems are gonna take back Congress this Tuesday! But only with YOUR help. Not only should you remember to vote, but you need to talk to your friends, your family, the guy in front of you in the line at the bank, whoevers sitting next to you on the train. Today's Republican Party is even more corrupt than I ever thought possible.

These people are NOT defenders of America- they believe that torture is justifiable and Civil Rights are an inconvenience. This is a GIANT STEP BACKWARDS, and its the very opposite of what makes our country so special! Furthermore, every torture victim and every dead civilian plays into the Jihadists hands perfectly, becoming yet another reason for Arabs who are on the fence to support Jihad and denounce us.

We have a man who cheated on his wife with a male prostitute petitioning the gov't to prevent committed loving couples from marrying, "fiscal conservatives" running up the deficit AGAIN (tax-and-spend is just HOW GOV'T WORKS, STFU about it already!!), 40,000+ iraqi CIVILIANS dead and no WMD's found (just the same brutal dictator that THE U.S. PROPPED UP IN THE FIRST PLACE- Is it any wonder the Iraqis don't want us there?), Diebold (they make touch-screen voting machines that don't print any paper ballot) lobbying Republican congressmen and being awarded no-bid contracts, and while Cheney's old corporation was being investigated for cheating the US govt in Iraq they're being awarded contracts to rebuild New Orleans?!?! This is a new low in the history of gov't low-ness.

6 years of Republican rule in Washington and the govt is still withholding about a 3rd of my pay check, a balanced budget is a distant memory, and they seriously considered investing my Social Security in the stock market after all that crazy Enron shit. If we don't turn it around at the polls in 06 and 08, it will soon be too late.

But thats the bad news.... the good news is that people aren't taking this lying down. In liberal Massachussetts, we even have the luxury of voting for Grace Ross. Seems like Deval is pretty much a shoo in, wouldn't hurt to get the Green/Rainbow Party some more funding and attention in the next election. Anyone who saw Grace Ross in the first couple of debates knows she was the real winner. While Kerry Healey was just shit talking, Mihos was making pie-in-the-sky promises, and Deval Patrick was warming our hearts with some feel-good rhetoric, Grace Ross was giving us the straight dope.

I personally have spent several years within spitting distance of minimum wage and the poverty line, so it's nice to hear someone announce on television that MANY ECONOMISTS AGREE THAT RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE IS GOOD FOR LOCAL BUSINESS!!!! Christy Mihos of course insists that raising minimum wage to the point where a 40 hr work week can keep us all above the poverty line is simply impossible. This is the Christy behind the Christy's convenience store chain, so you know he's impartial. Promising to fire 8,000 state workers and get rid of half the tolls on the turnpike is a realistic idea, but if we were all making enough money to go shopping he doesn't believe that could possibly stimulate local businesses. What a fucking loser.

Anyways, this is degenerating into a rant. All I really wanted to say was that I made a bunch of phone calls and it felt really great. This election is gonna turn the tide. If the Dem's don't take a bunch of new seats it can only be because of these creepy Diebold electronic voting machines. You know the federal gov't now offers local govt's funding to replace their voting machines, but only if its one of these touch-screen electronic machines? And of course you must hire their consultants to help you operate the new system. I mean, spyware on your laptop is one thing but seriously can we afford to hold elections without actual paper ballots? How are we supposed to recount anything when its just compromised date saved on a disk?

All of this is why I'm calling bull shit on these people. I hope you give a shit enough to go out and vote tuesday.
