A comment I've just stumbled upon in a thread, by Mad Max, with whom I wholeheartedly agree: Polanski's crime has to be really bad if it prompts so many
libertarians to take up the cudgels for uptight, repressive
bourgeois morality.
'Not to defend Polanski, but let's not forget that the man had his
wife brutally murdered by the Manson Gang. That's got to fuck your
head up something good.'
The thing is, there are all too many people in this world whose
family members were brutally murdered, and most of these folks
manage not to rape 13-year-old girls.
What kind of message are we sending to Holocaust survivors and
other murder survivors when we tell them, 'it's good that you
didn't rape little girls, but we would certainly understand if you
had.' That's kind of, you know, offensive.
And if Polanski's life experiences made him want to fight back,
maybe he could have moved to Israel and joined the army or
intelligence services, where he would have had many opportunities
to fight against jew-killers. Or he could have done a John Walsh
and dedicated himself to tracking down murderers.
The 13-year-old whom he raped didn't kill Polanski's family.
Sheesh.
'Hollywood will forgive any crime, as long as you don't vote
Republican.'
Or give the government about Stalinist operatives. I was in London yesterday, arrived around two in the afternoon. Soundcheck wouldn't be until about 4:30, so I walked around. I'm the worst tourist I've ever met, usually more enthusiastic toward sleep than sight seeing. But as there wasn't a hotel to hide in for two whole hours, I looked around Soho.
I captured some moments and emailed them to my mother. Double decker buses with faces gazing back in mock expression.
I sat in a pub an' drank a (singular, yes) Guiness an' was replenished.
When evening settled in I was amongst the Soul Family led by the very lovely, talented Natalie Williams. She sang a tune that sent chills through me... Never before, never again will "Hyper Ballad" sound as beautifully poignant. One may say that I'm an idiot for that statement, but I assure you, One, I've been called worse!
I sat up listening to Kurt Elling an' Sarah Vaghn until about 3am or so. The time of day isn't really relevent at this stage though.
My mother wrote me back... I read her note while on the train, returning to beloved Paris. "Krystle," she began. "What are the pictures of? You will need to write a book about your adventures." But as Mr. Costello once sang, "Everyday I write the book."

There IS an upcoming performance.
It's in London, on the thirteenth of December.
When I played at the Barbican for the London Jazz Festival, I made a friend - several actually. Such good people around! - an' her name is Natalie Williams, an' she so kindly invited me to play with her at Ronnie Scott's, a classy jazz spot in Soho. She's a fantastic singer with such a clever disposition. Really lovely. Yep.
So that's my update.
Hope all's well. I've a glass of Jameson to converse with. Mustn't keep the man waiting.

I'm listening to an assortment of standards from some of the best crooners who've ever graced our planet. On the other side of my window, neighboring rooftops enhance the isolation created by the clouds above; an intropsective Tuesday.
Hugh's show at La Cigale was so perfect. Very impressive, that guy. By far the best performance I've seen from him yet.
I've been receiving various notes, letters, text, (I give my number out a bit freely. Well, not freely. Depends on my mood, an' on the person) asking about future plans. "Any shows in Paris? Any shows...at all? Have you moved to London?" No, yes, no. Winter's here (I think). Sleepy time. The really good news is, I'm in the midst of putting the pieces together to record the next album, "Love Songs". It's a double album an' will feature over 20 songs on the topic of the good, (side a: A Time You May Embrace) an' the bad, (side b: A Time To Refrain From Embracing) of that ever tricky, fantastic, elusive emotion. The plan is to record in Nashville, TN, in a big room with loads of musicians an' singers performing live with as minimal mic-ing as possible - no overdubs, either. All. Live - like back in the day. Funny, how a medium that has barely spanned over a hundred years has become so complex that to revert back from which it came seems complicated - revolutionary even! As always, I will keep everyone concerned informed.
Hoping you're all well an' doing what you wanna do but not in a way that kills other people - in the literal sense. No killing, please!

Dears,
Writing to you to let you know that I'm doing okay, aside from a persistant cold. The Boule Noir cancellation was decided weeks before. Apologies for not giving a heads up, or, better, removing the date from the page - along with a heads up! I've been a bit busy an' haven't had much time to think, let alone act. No excuses though, just explanations.
As I had previously mentioned, there's been a huge change in regards to my booking, promotion, etc. Everything's getting sussed out, an' I'll try my best to keep you in the loop.
But yeah, getting back to good things: I've been painting my room here an' there, (the cold's slowed me down a bit. Heavens to Betsy, lets hope it's not the goddamn SWINE!!!!) an' it's looking great. As I shared with one of my favorite people in the world, I kinda went all "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" on it, to which I'm proud of myself, an' my uncanny talent; the blessed queer eye. Jesus Fucking Christ and Liberacci!
I hope this update has made some sense an' that all of YOU are okay an' doing what you do an' are being happy, 'cause, I am. Yeah... I'm really, really happy.
Love, kw

Him: There are three list: Invite, Backstage, V.I.P. He's on the Invite. Me: What does that mean? Does he need to get there earlier than nine? Him: I don't know... Actually, because the invite is intended for you, they're telling me he can't use it. We have very little space as is. Me: So he CAN'T go? Him: No, he cannot. Me: So this whole conversation is pointless an' has been a waste of precious time. Him: Yes. Me: Who are "they", these people who say this? Him: What? Me: "Them", "they"! Who are THEY?! Him: _, _, _ and me... Listen, I know that you hate me an - Me: I don't hate you, (yes I do!), I'm just confused as to why you're telling me this NOW, because it's not YOU who has to call him up an' be an asshole an' say, 'Sorry, you can't go afterall.' You'd rather give that invite to an industry shmuck than a real fan of _?! Him: Sorry. Me: (mutterings) Ciao. (Click!)
BBC radio dude: Would any of the musicians like to share what they ate for breakfast? No?
Me: I ran into a glass door two nights ago. Bis. Her: Oh my god! Me I'm stuck at home coz _ has the fucking Grippe A!!! Me: Goddamn doors, goddamn SWINE!
Her: I think they were trying to make us happy. Me: I think they should fuck themselves.
Him: I think I smoked so much weed lastnight I died a little. Me: Good Lord. Thanks for that.
Him: One of the reasons that I love you is because you use proper spelling and punctuation in your texting. Is that gay? Me: Yes.
Her: Uh..so, you push your phone off, an'..uh, you wait five minute an' you push it on an' it will work. Call back if no. Sank you, Mr. Warren. I hope you have good day. Me: No, thank YOU!
Me: My head still hurts by the way. It's amazing you still have a door. Him: Still have the trace of your forhead on my window. We were laughing about it earlier on with _. I think I might keep it & sell it on e-bay the day you become famous...
