this is about US and Cuba, things that were supposed to be kept quiet... if something like this is thought up by our leaders, who knows what else has been thought up, and what else is really true...

well few readers of our blogs...its official...captain braskey has expanded....we have a new member...bill...wharry...i think thats how its spelled...he has confirmed that he will join our crew!!! this is great news for us...he adds a lot of experience in many different avenues of our passion...currently through the jamming sessions he’s added a whole other layer of sound texture with his synth/keyboard playing, that compliments our sound very nicely. so look forward to the sneak peeks of bill performing with us on April 19th at barley’s, April 25th at cedar’s, and may 30th at jonesfest...we then hope to take a few months to write new music...and be back for vexfest 5...so stay tuned!!!!

Local band hits Barley's with debut album
Diane Platton, Jambar Contributor
With an unusual name like Captain Braskey, a sound that has been compared to Incubus, Nirvana and A Perfect Circle, and a debut album release Friday, this band is ready to take Youngstown by storm. Sophomore Andrew Bero, who plays guitar and sings lead vocals, describes how the band got it's name. "We were drunk on Captain Morgan and were watching Will Ferell's character Bill Braskey, and we needed a name for our band, so we decided to put the two together," said Bero. Captain Braskey was formed in the summer of 2005. "At the time we were in another band and formed this band as a sort of side project, but it became the main band," said Bero. Other band members include Dave Bero on bass and backup vocals and Charlie Warino on the drums. Both attended YSU and have since graduated. Captain Braskey's sound, like their name, is unique. "We play alternative rock. It's kind of grundgish, funkish, but mostly alternative rock," Bero said. The band will be having their CD release party this Friday night at Barley's. The first band is set to perform at 8 p.m. and Captain Braskey will be the set of the night. "We play once or twice a month around here," said Bero. The band's next gig will be Dec. 21 at Barley's for a christmas show. Currently, the CDs will be available at Captain Braskey shows and on the band's MySpace page. Though their album will not be available at any stores for now, Bero said he can see them "slapping a barcode on the back and selling them at a CD warehouse" in the future.

the debut album from Captain Braskey will be released to the public Friday, November 30th 2007. Luckily for YLM, we got a copy a few days early.
Captain Braskey includes Andrew and Dave Bero (both from New Middletown, OH), brothers - and Charlie Warino (Canfield, OH) who might as well be the third brother. These boys are 3 of a kind..
The post-grunge/alternative sound that they project is very unique and original , especially for a trio. Not to mention the wild shenanigans they bust out while performing. Over the past two years, they have been putting in their time all over the area at places like Barley's, The Cellar, Saltygrogs, and Cedars. The Braskey's have even played charity events such as Relay for Life in their hometown of New Middletown, OH. Expanding their operations, C. B. has played out of town as well. They have frequented The Birmingham Bridge Tavern in Pittsburgh, PA along with The Cove in Geneva, OH.
While listening to the disc I am taken back to the 90's when grunge dominated the music scene. Music fans can pop this disc in and let it play through without getting sick of it. Each track has it's own sense of originality to it and that's what keeps you wanting more. It's definately not emo and for that, YLM is thankful. That's right, I said it.
YLM is sponsoring the CD Release Party because we are guaranteed a killer night. We had to be a part of this thing, because of the party factor alone. Also, the album has been longly awaited by all fans. I can't stress it enough, if you haven't been to a C. Braskey show you must come this Friday for their biggest party yet!
Captain Braskey's upcoming shows:
Friday, November 30th @ Barley's for their CD Release Party of 'Time-Justice-Meaning' doors open @ 8pm music starts @ 9pm $5 18 and up w/ special guests: Kurt Reifler, The Rydells, & London
Friday, December 21st @ Barley's @ 10pm opening for Jones for Revival's 1st Annual XXXMAS Party also on the bill: 5 Elements
YLM's personal favorite Braskey tracks: Thing in a Bag, Mr. Know It All, The Downfall.
You can now hear 'Thing in a Bag' on Homegrown Local Radio (93.3 The Wolf every Sunday from 9-10pm)

By JOHN BENSON
VINDICATOR CORRESPONDENT
Spiritual but not religious is how Captain Braskey singer-guitarist Andrew Bero views the relatively new Liberty-based band's music heard on its debut CD, "Time-Justice-Meaning."
"It's just religious is like a religion — Christian, Buddhist, etc.," said the 25-year-old Springfield native and current Youngstown State University student. "Our music is more just spiritual, as you try to do good without any frame of reference ... all is one."
Among the songs found on the band's eight-song debut, which was recorded this past year in Akron, are the upbeat "Find a Way" and the rocking "Gods of Eden." Bero said the post-grunge band's music has been described as falling somewhere in between Incubus and Nirvana, with his influences also including Tool and A Perfect Circle.
"We're starting to fit into the Youngstown-area scene, and people are starting to recognize us," said Bero, who graduated from Springfield High School in 2000. "We're starting to make friends and play more shows. As a band, our music is pretty diverse.
"I think we fit in, but we do stand out because I don't think there are a lot of bands that sound like us. They may be similar, but we sort of sound like everything with a bunch of different influences on us. We try to incorporate everything we can."
Formed roughly three years ago, Captain Braskey features Bero, his brother Dave (bass) and Charlie Warino (drums). Bero, who was previously a member of the pre-Asleep band Render, said his trio spent the last three years concentrating on its songwriting, which he believes is evident on "Time-Justice-Meaning." Captain Braskey celebrates the release of its new disc with a CD show Friday at Barley's.
With the new album out, the goal is to play out more regionally, as well as return to the recording studio as soon as possible to record the band's sophomore project. Already in the mix is new track "Seekie," which falls squarely into the band's grunge style. As far as how the act approaches its music, Bero was honest.
"We're kind of goofy, laid-back guys but then like the actual content of the music is kind of deep," Bero said.
Speaking to the goofier aspects of the outfit is how the group received its name.
"We were drunk one night and we needed a name for one of our first shows," Bero said. "So there was a bottle of Captain Morgan, and we were talking about the Bill Braskey [character] on 'Saturday Night Live.'"
With that in mind, ahoy Captain Braskey, and may the wind always be at your back. --> BITSPrintFriendlyEnd --> --> BITSMailPreviewStart -->
