Current mood:  creative

Hello all....I continue to get tons of requests from many music artists and bands to check out their music and let them know what I think. I set aside a few hours a week for new artists at a discounted rate to review music and offer advice. If you'd sincerely like me to critique your music, offer advice on your career or ideas for recording or broadening your fanbase, please email me at anrgirl@anrgirl.com and I'll let you know how it works and what it costs. Please do not ask me to randomly check out your music and offer you feedback. That's not what I do here. Thank you for visiting my page. Thank you in advance for handling your music career professionally. Best wishes on your musical endeavors!

Current mood:  touched
I'm saddened by the loss of a true pioneer and one of the music business's finest....the legendary Ahmet Ertegun. I was fortunate to be able to experience Ahmet on several occasions as I worked at Atlantic Records from 1991 - 1996. He was an incredible man. My favorite memory was one that happened before I was at Atlantic Records.
This month marks the 20th anniversary of starting my career in the music business. It was a long time ago while in college preparing to go to law school...when low and behold, one boring night when I should have been studying for a 8 am exam...my life changed forever. I stumbled in to a band named Skid Row. Yes friends, this was a time before Sebastian Bach...There was a fun, crazy yet sincere vibe about these guys that drew me in. I wanted to be a part of it and make a difference.

I stayed in touch with the guys. They gave their original singer the boot. I'd go to their rehearsals at a friend's house and sit on the steps listening to them practice without a singer. Finally one day Snake called me to tell me they'd found a singer and did I want to do a show with them at the venue I was booking at in Allentown called Airport Music Hall. I said "Of course!".

We were prepping the place for the show. The band was loading in and doing soundcheck when the guy who ran the place called me in to his office. I told him I was worried that the snow storm was going to hurt the draw and especially with it being their first time playing in Allentown. He said, "Don't worry...we have one person coming who will make up for that." Ahmet Ertegun was flying in for the show via HELICOPTER! Jason Flom (who was a young A&R rep at the time) had gotten Ahmet all wound up about the band.

Ahmet showed up in his suit with another couple. The ladies were dressed in fine furs. He had Tunc Erim with him :-) During the set, there was Ahmet down with all the fans getting in to the music and rocking out. He was a blast! Later after the set I was standing next to Snake when Ahmet offered him their record deal. It was thrilling....I was 19 years old and watching history in the making!!! Skid Row DID in fact sign with Atlantic Records and as you all know the rest is HISTORY :-)  From that moment on, I knew what I was meant to do in the music business. I knew it would be a long road but I was inspired by one of the GREATEST! It set forward my dream to be a facilitator in this business and help other artists get to their goals to my best ability. My journey continues today....

God Bless you Ahmet Ertegun and thank you Skid Row :-) I get out of bed everyday and love what I do!

Current mood:  inspired
Category: Life

Hmmm....wow...it's been a long time since I've posted a new blog. I'm feeling very inspired these days. Lots of new projects going on here and I'll keep you in suspense until the gag order has been released

For now, let's just say I have some observations. I thought about moving back to LA for a little bit but right when I was closest to that decision I found I had so much more I was going to miss here. I realized I'd built some really wonderful friendships with people both in music business and not business...you know who you are...and you have made the balance of my life stronger so that I don't get too lost in my career and am able to pull back and breathe, relax and just be me.

Now on to business...Nashville is a truly creative and passionate place to be right now. This place isn't only home for country music but is expanding horizons and becoming a melting pot for music of other genres. This is truly earning the title Music City. The conversations here are about creating music, ideas and ways for the business to grow. The bottom line and bullshit numbers game are not something I hear too many talk about here in Nashville. There's a wealth of creative people here who are optimistic and they aren't concerned with the demise of the music business as heard in LA and NYC...they're here because music is what they do...music is what they love...music is what will continue in whatever amalgamation to reach people's ears and hearts.

It's so amazing to be surrounded by renegades, mavericks, rebels and people who truly get up each day because they love writing music, being a part of it and working towards keeping it alive and growing....yes my friends, music business is what you make of it...and if you're in it for the right reasons...you will wake up smiling each day and enjoy the rollercoaster animal ride that it is. I know there are some of you in LA and NYC...I invite you to come down here sometime and vibe it out.

For all those reading this, do not be jaded. Do not ever give up on yourself or what you can do to contribute, change or add to the world of music. If times get hard, let a song play on your stereo or on to your notebook...you may find financial rewards in it and you may not...but never get mad about music. Just embrace it and keep it in your life.
