Meet the Crew! : Loston Wallace

Q: Okay, introduce yourself. Who are ya-- age, location, what do you do?

Loston Wallace: I'm Loston Wallace!  Whatzzat? Never heard of me?  Maybe if I gave you a little more information, it would help you recognize me.  Well, I'm THE 36 year old Loston Wallace born in Virginia, and now living in North Carolina. Did that help? Heard of me now? No? Hmm.  I thought that would clear things up.  Maybe you just needs a bit more info! Perhaps you've seen one of my children's books, like "SUPERMAN RETURNS, THANK YOU SUPERMAN!" available on Amazon.com and on the shelves at Borders Books, select Barnes & Noble stores, Walmart, K-mart, and other fine places?  If you haven't seen it, please look for it!  I'm currently working on an official SPIDER-MAN 3 movie sound book for toddlers and pre-schoolers, so maybe you'll be inclined to pick one up for your kids!

Q: What are you working on currently?

LW: Whazzat?  Have I done any comic book work?  Yeah, I've done some comic book stuff--several issues of ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK for
Claypool Comics, and a CAVEWOMAN one-shot for Basement Comics called KLYDE & MERIEM.  Though the bulk of my professional career has been illustrating role-playing games like DEADLANDS, BATTLETECH, INDIANA JONES, STAR WARS, GURPS, and other fine games, my most recent endeavors have been for DC Comics' licensing department, working on various BATMAN and SUPERMAN projects.  I'm also working on a co-owned pulp comic called, STRANGE PASSAGES with writer, Micah Harris that I'm very excited about!

Q: What's your dream gig-- the one job you want to do over anything else?
LW: Well, if there are no more questions I--oh.  You in the back with your hand raised--go ahead.  Ah!  My "dream project"! Good question to ask! Let me think a moment on that.  i think CONAN THE BARBARIAN would probably be ideal for me. Warriors, monsters, girls in skimpy outfits--yeah, I think that might be it!  I'd also love to get a chance to draw the SPIDER-MAN comics, or BATMAN.  Either would be fun! The FANTASTIC FOUR has always been a favorite book of mine too, and I think I'd enjoy drawing the HULK a great deal. What a fun character he is!

Q: Hitting any conventions this year?

LW: Tight deadlines and big projects have kept me away from doing the convention rounds this year, but you can always visit me at my website,

and please feel free to drop me an email!

I'll see you in the funny pages!

Meet the Crew! : Nate Lovett

Q: Okay, introduce yourself. Who are ya-- age, location, what do you do?

Nate Lovett: Nate Lovett, 28, Columbus Ohio, freelance illustrator

Q: What are you working on currently?

NL:  I'm always doing something for the webcomic, Awesome Storm Justice 41.  I'm currently working with Ron Phillips on a story that will be appearing in an issue of Digital Webbing Presents, hopefully by the end of the year.  I just got done doing some work on General Jack Cosmo Presents, which will be available soon. Other than that, I'm working with a few folks on a few pitches, and trying to get myself out there a bit more.

Q: Where can we pick up these books?

NL: You can find Awesome Storm Justice 41, at www.awesomestormjustice.com, and you'll be able to pick up a copy of General Jack Cosmo Presents starting at Wizard World Chicago.

Q: What's your dream gig-- the one job you want to do over anything else?

NL: As much as i would love to do anything for the "Big Two", i think my dream gig would have to be, doing my own stuff.  or at least having my hand in something that i co-created.  i just feel that i'd get alot more enjoyment out of that.

Q: Hitting any conventions this year?

NL: I will be appearing at Wizard World Chicago, and then there is no way I can miss Mid Ohio Con, because i live 10-15 minutes away from where they have it.

Meet the Crew! : Shane Peters

Q: Okay, introduce yourself. Who are ya-- age, location, what do you do?

Shane Peters: My name is Shane Peters, you killed my father, prepare to die. Also, I'm a 32 year old penciller, writer, inker, and when necessary also a colorist.

I live in Almont, a rural town in Michigan's thumb, and up until last year I'd been living in Orange County, California.

In the past I've worked with Rob Liefeld's Arcade Comics, as well as a handful of other now-defunct "indie" publishers. Outside of comics I've done a lot of storyboarding for television commercials, some including Little Caesars, NAPA, Shop-vac, and Pontiac.

Q: What are you working on currently?

SP: Soulblazer. Issue 1 is "in the can" as they say, and should be out late this fall. Publisher still to be announced.

Soulblazer is sort of a high-octane soap opera, in a fantasy setting. The action is intense, but the characters and their relationships are what will keep you coming back for more.

On the surface things seem so simple, but much like the onion as the layers are peeled away you'll discover that nothing is quite as it seems.

Q: Where can we pick up these books?

SP: There will be an announcement concerning the where's and when's of Soulblazers' release soon. The plan is for a late fall release, but that could change depending on the publisher's schedule.

Q: What's your dream gig-- the one job you want to do over anything else?

SP: My dream job? Soulblazer. The dream part of it? That maybe I might get paid for all of this work one day. But I LOVE working on Soulblazer, drawing the details of a world in my mind and then shaping the characters that inhabit it. May Sentaro being my favorite of those characters.

Q: Hitting any conventions this year?

SP: Yes, Wizardworld Chicago for certain, and the fall Motorcity Comicon. Possibly more shows, but we'll see.

Meet the Crew! : Ben Rollman

Q: Okay, introduce yourself. Who are ya-- age, location, what do you do?

Ben Rollman: I'm Ben Rollman.  I'm a network administrator working for Texas Medical Association.  I'm 33 and I have a lovely wife and two wonderful kids.  I'm a Colorado native/Texas transplant.

Q: What are you working on currently?

BR: Currently I'm wrapping up a couple things with Stephen Offenheim's Awesome Storm Justice webcomic.  I'm doing a couple lettering gigs, one with Herostreet (no relation) that should be coming out through Diamond soon.  I'm also an artistic editor for the Penciljack Universe webcomic.  When all this is moving slower I'll go back to work on my book; Project: Gemini.

Q: Where can we pick up these books?

BR: If you mean my books, just email me and I'll send you details.  I have a couple dozen hardcopies left and would gladly sell them to people.  If you mean Heroforge books, talk to Jeremy. ;-)

W: What's your dream gig-- the one job you want to do over anything else?

BR: If I had my druthers and if the pay was where I could afford to support my family, I'd love to take a crack at doing the Silver Surfer, both writing and drawing.  I think he's a wonderful character that no one since Lim/Starlin has given any justice.  But, I'd also like to have time to tell my own stories, so my dream job would be to earn a living doing Project: Gemini or another sci-fi comic.

Q: Hitting any conventions this year?

BR: Not this year.  I went last year to Chicago and didn't have a great time, so I'm off big cons for a while.  At least until traveling sans little kids is easier to setup and I have more work to show or I'm part of a bigger group with lots of books and creators.  Being a solo creator at a big con is a lonely prospect and I won't do it again.  I may do some local cons when I get P:G #2 done.

Meet the Crew! : Jeremy Dale

Q: Okay, introduce yourself. Who are ya-- age, location, what do you do?

Jeremy Dale: Gee, that was subtle. Okay, I'm Jeremy Dale, and I'm a comic book penciller. I also do children's book illustration, but that's more on the minor end of things.

Why do you need my age again? Um, I'm 26, and JUST moved to Columbia, South Carolina a week or so ago.

I focus more on the pencilling aspect of comics because that's the only job I feel remotely comfortable with. As Dash or Loston will attest, I'm no inker-- and I'll never claim to be.

Q: What are you working on currently?

JD: Im involved in a lot right now, to tell the truth. I just finished work on the second issue of Ronin Studios Absolute Zeroes, my creator-owned series, I cant stress enough how much fun it is to just draw this book every day. Its a real pleasure, and I hope it comes through in the finished pencils.

I recently finished work on a story with Leah Moore and John Reppion for Space Doubles from Th3rd World thats supposed to debut later this year.

Then theres The Crossover, a book Im doing with writer John-Matthew DeFoggi, which should be out sooner or later. Im working on that as we speak. I have a few other projects lined up, but Ill hold off on all that talk until negotiations get farther along.

I also illustrated a story awhile back for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort for Ronins HOPE: New Orleans book, due out in July.

I have a story in a few upcoming anthologies as well-- Young American Comics' BIZMAR Anthology due out next month, and Comics JamWar 2006 out this month. Check those out-- they were both time-related exercises, and my teams worked really well together.

Don't forget the Heroforge Ink 2006 Sketchbook-- it's currently at the printers and should debut at WizardWorld Chicago.

Q: Where can we pick up these books?

JD: Well, you can pick up Absolute Zeroes through Comixpress or DCBService soon enough, Ive heard.

The Wildguard story I did last summer for Todd Nauck can be ordered through any online retailer or at your local shop, its Wildguard:Fools Gold #1 from Image Comics.

My 24-Hour Comic, Storytellers, is also available.

The others I've had hyperlinked above. Check 'em out.

W: What's your dream gig-- the one job you want to do over anything else?

JD: Honestly, something like Marvel Team-Up, where I can play with Spider-Man and a rotating cast of Marvels finest. Beyond that, I want a consistent run on something. With the way it is these days, artists leave after 6 issues or less,I want a good hefty run on a book,at LEAST twenty issues.

Q: Hitting any conventions this year?

JD: Sure, I love conventions! First, I recently had a signing with writers Sean McKeever and Troy Hickman at Alter-Ego Comics in Muncie, IN-- it was a lot of fun! I spent the whole time talking to fans and sketching furiously. A great experience. Here's my plans for the rest of 2006:

Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC ( June 30th-July 2nd ) visit con site here
I'll be walking the floor mostly, but I'll drop some copies off at the Ronin table and maybe do some sketches for the fans if I get the urge.

WizardWorld Chicago in Chicago, IL ( August 3rd-6th ) visit con site here
I'll be in Artist's Alley with fellow Heroforge boys Shane Peters, Dash Martin, and Nate Lovett-- hawking all the new books I have out and doing sketches and meeting the fans. Come see me!

Mid-Ohio Con in Columbus, OH ( November 25th-26th ) visit con site here
I should be exhibiting, but I'll be there whether I am or not. I love the panels at this con-- hopefully this year's will be just as stellar as in the past!

Hope to see you there!

Current mood:  artistic
Category: Art and Photography

Remember all those "studios" that pop up every time an artist or two (or twelve, whatever) decide to clique themselves off from everyone else and release their idea of the next bi g Image imprint? Yeah? Well, that's Heroforge, but without all the rules or elitism. A few guys and I decided to band together just to make it easier to get our work out there-- we're not clique-ing around, we don't think we're better than anyone... we would just like someplace to call home every now and then.

We can publish under the imprint if we like, or leave it-- no strings attached. Maybe we'll get a table or booth together at conventions. Maybe not. The only official thing of note with Heroforge Ink is the sketchbook we're releasing for the convention season. It's being put together now and it will contain several pages from each of us-- sketches, sequentials, whatever won't get us sued. Just a way to share our art with the fans. Check it out!

We'd like to think that we all share one interest-- fun comics. That's right, we roll like that. Stay tuned for preview art, events, hype, and all that fun stuff.

Heroforge... Get excited.
