SuperCon was a rousing success, thanks to all who participated. For those of you who may not have known, the HA participated in this Ft. Lauderdale based convention over the weekend of June 22-24. Having set up the table in the Celebrity signing room Friday night, everything was ready to go Saturday morning. We were able to share space with Kevin Conroy of 'Batman: the Animated Series', 'Justice League' and 'Justice League Unlimited'. We also met, Micheal Winslow (Police Academy), Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen Hunger Force), Marcia Wallace (The Simpsons) and, of course, George Lowe (Space Ghost). The highlight for me personally was meeting Rikki Simmons (the voice of Gir from 'Invader Zim'). The HA was in charge of the Costume and Masquerade contest for which we had 43 entrants of all ages, genres and talents. People were able to sign up online preshow and at the HA table until an hour prior for the saturday event. The contest was a great success with so many people in attendance the organizers were forced to close the doors. Some of the event categories included: Best Anime Group, Best Anime Individual; 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Superhero; Best Skit, Best Prop (Anime and Superhero), etc. George Lowe hosted and 4 of the HA members made great judges. After the costume contest we continued to man the table and field any and all questions about the HA and costuming in general. The dealer's room and signing rooms wrapped up at 8 and we all headed to dinner with some friends from the Wolf Pack and our good friends Tim Gordon (who owns and runs the local Tampa Comic Book and Toy Convention). After dinner we spent some time with the promoter and checked out the bands and Rave. A long night and day of con, caused us all to crash, but looking forward to a new day on Sunday. Sunday morning started promplty at 11 with the HA's panel on Costuming. We had a small, but enthusastic crowd and fielded some great questions (Thanks Ana!!). We then had to get ready for the next costume contest to be lined up, The Supergirls of SuperCon. This contest was intended to create a new type of mascot for the convention and promotions. Six girls of varying genres were chosen by celebrity judges (and myself, who also got the opportunity to MC). You'll be seeing these girls (which include: Dark Phoenix, Zelda, Ichigo, Cindy-Res. Evil, Zatanna, Psylocke) on the SuperCon website as well as promotional information leading up to and during the next Convention. 15 girls entered and it was tough to wheedle it down to even just those 6. After the contest the con started to wind down, ending at 5pm. The HA members all met their favorite celebs, got some signatures, comics and collectibles and made some new friends. Overall the convention was a great success. We all had a terrific time and came home exhausted. This is the second SuperCon the HA has had the privledge of attending and participating in. There will be one in December for all those who might be interested and all are welcome to attend. For all who met us at the convention, thank you for your participation and support. We look forward to seeing you again. -Firebird

We showed up with 100 balloons, bags of candy, and over 100 comic books. We changed into our costumes and split into a DC and Marvel group. Each group took a wing of the hospital visiting the children offering them candy, a comic book and a balloon. We had expected around a hundred children, but to our delight we found that many had been discharged from the hospital to return home.We entertained the remaining children and families for as long as we could and then departed from the hospital, happy that we could give these children a happy thought for the day.
Thanks to all that showed up to St. Joesph Hospital. Thank you to Read More Comics for donating over 100 comic books for the children, as well as Party City in Carrollwood, FL for almost half of the balloons being free.

Its time again for another event to show your community that we are here for them. The Heroes Alliance is planning a visit to a hospital in Tampa, FL on April 1, 2007. From games, to pictures, to easter eggs, we are planning on entertaining children to give them a happy holiday. If you can join us for this event, send a message with the costume you wish to wear and contact information. Remember all costumes must be child apropriate, as well as meet hospital requirements. For example, no massive amounts of cleavage and no costumes with latex. Thanks to all of you that can make it and show your support for your local communities.
