MySap is such a hack - why can't we edit the subject line to look like this: Upcoming Shows! Fucking MySpace!
As many of you may know, Metha Mean is going on tour with Insurgent Inc. in a little less than two weeks. We're very excited to be playing our first tour and shows in over three years, and can't wait to show off our new songs and sounds. We'll be releasing Ambients & Derelicts, Vol. II for this tour - a limited edition, CDR-only collection of songs and pieces to preview the upcoming Yggdrasil. A&DVII will also include some songs that won't fit on Yggdrasil - some ambient pieces, remixes and otherwise unreleasable material for you all to enjoy. To top it all off, we're playing with Insurgent Inc. on this tour - it doesn't get better than this when you're sharing the stage with the nicest guys in the Canadian music scene who also have all their shit together and are showing the Kidz how to do it. (That's the title of their new album, kidz.) MySpace's events management in the calendar page is really unfriendly and innefficient to work with, so you won't be seeing us sending events notices via MySpace (and we refuse to buy the software that makes it easy). Hopefully enough of you read the blogs and will spread the word around. As it stands, our shows are: Tuesday, May 20th - Zaphod's in Ottawa; Thursday, May 22nd - The Embassy in London, along with The Blackwood Article and Parasite (we're not on the calendar yet, but I've just taken steps to remedy that situation); Friday, May 23rd - Holy Joe's in Toronto, along with Science!; Saturday, May 24th - Petit Campus in Montréal. For additional info, check out our Facebook page here, and join the fans to get the most up-to-date info. Stef

Hello everyone,
We are in the process of putting the finishing touches to this beast of an album entitled Yggdrasil. After two and half years of constant songwriting, arranging, re-arranging, recording and rehearsing, and more re-recording, it is just about ready to release. Right now we are putting the finishing touches to some more recording; some songs are ready to mix.
With all that, the next step is to play live. We're looking for any shows in just about any venue anywhere in between Hamilton and Kingston, starting in mid- to late-March.
Let us know if you want us to grace a stage with you.
Stef

Metha Mean didn't really do much during the summer. Dave went on a trip to the Azores; Stef went to Europe; Marc got married; Vince... well, Vince did Vince things and kept busy with At Hand; Jay disappeared. When Dave got back, he found a guitarist to fill out the lineup of the band - Erik, from Wiggler. We'll be adding his tracks to the album within the next month. Stef has been working on some new lyrics, and he'll be doing the vocals for the album, also within the next month.
We've had some demo versions of Crowbar and Betray up on Myspace for a long time. These versions will soon be available for download until the album comes out. This will be your last chance to have those rough versions before Yggdrasil comes out.
We're trying to get into some festivals and clubs for the spring of 2008 so that we can finally play some of these songs live. We're also hoping to be working on some new material around Christmas time, long-distance with Vince in Montréal and the rest of the guys in Toronto. And in Hamilton. And in Burlington. But first, we have to finish recording all the tracks, and then there is the mixing and mastering. We've been talking with some people about mixing, and we're trying to get someone different to mix the album and give it some balls. Stef doesn't want to mix Yggie. His ears still hurt from Unloved.
There's a new version of Dog Eat Dog on Myspace - Stef has been backing up all the old material to a new computer, and in the process got into some remixing. The remixing was a necessity, because the original drum-machine that provided some of the patterns in the original version has been dead for quite some time. Sonar 6.2 and another drum-machine rescued the situation. Some people commented that they like this version better than the one on Open. So instead of just leaving it on a hard-drive, we've made it available for download.
A bulletin will go out when we finally get our asses on stage... hope you stay tuned until then.

All of This is available for download. It's a song composed by Stef, Keymo (he can be found at myspace.com/inbetweener; he also sings in At Hand) and Frank Doré (you can find him at myspace.com/theprickbastard; he also plays guitar in Tantrumn and bass in Endast). We did it back in 2004, and it won't be on Yggdrasill, hence why it's available for download. For now.

Well this is Dave here. With unfortunate events that have come over Metha Mean this week end, we have lost our guitar player. Apparently our recording of the new albums is not up to par with him. So I guess I will call it "musical differences". With this new development we have but, no choice to delete all guitar track previously recorded by the former guitar player and replacing it with new ones And with that be, have to endure a 2 month set back On a better note we will be having our previous guitar god Vince, who will be in TO on the week end to help us out. So now we have learnt new things in Toronto and with our mistakes I guess it will make us stronger? And once again we are on the market for a new guitar player and as still a drummer. And now we do have a rehearsal room and a place to make noise. So auditions are open. So just drop us a line. Dave

Current mood: frustrated
Category: Music
Metha Mean has been searching for a rehearsal space in Toronto now for close to six months. So far, believe it or not, nothing. NADA.
This might sound like petty whining, but I have to get it off my chest. I am sure that Dave, Jay and Bill will concur. We have had our chain yanked regarding rehearsal spaces by so many people since Octobre, which is when we started looking, that I just want to kill myself (in a very figurative, not literal, sense) or quit. It has gotten to that point of frustration. There has been the dumpy room in Kensington Market that sounded too good to be true; the dumb-ass who had a room on Labbatt Avenue but then failed to show up to meet us and has yet to return any phone calls or emails; the seemingly trustworthy co-worker at Steve's that had a room for us 'right now' back in mid-Decembre, but who tantalizingly never returned messages or emails (not until Dave called him on it last week - and that's when he did he phone me, whining that I need to get Dave off his back or else he would 'do something'). To be fair, there are some people who genuinely did try to help, but in these cases Metha Mean was always the second band in line, and each time we did not get the room. The two that stand out are Adrienne from Hunter Valentine and Craig. Both of these guys answered emails and phone calls as soon as possible, keeping the communication open as best they could.
We will most likely be able to start rehearsing next week in a space not far from Bathurst and Queen, but it is far from ideal as it is an hourly room in a recording studio. We have limited access to the room, but it's better than nothing and we need to start rehearsing soon. If anyone in the Toronto area hears of anything regarding a rehearsal space, one preferably in the downtown area or close by, please let us know.

methamean.com is gone. Without a warning, doteasy.com pulled it down. The two year renewal period was coming up, but it was expected in mid-November, not October. We will be renewing it soon... we just have to see how much it will gouge us for.
In the Mean time, you can enjoy some of our older material at New Music Canada (you'll have to get a Real Player); or give a listen on myspace to some demos of new stuff we've been developing. Still no permanent drummer, but a few people will be filling in on a need-be basis.
Dave has uploaded a sample of a new song onto myspace: the actual title is I Have Come Home, and its actual working title was DPS 5. (DPS refers to Dave-Paul-Stef, as in Dave Ledo, Paul Jaworsi and Stef Caron. We had given all the songs titles of DPS 1 through 7 by default, even though Paul had only worked on four songs with us last fall. I Have Come Home was the first post-Paul song Stef & Dave did back in January.) I Have Come Home features Dave on bass & guitar, Stef on bass, drum programming & keyboards, Roland Gheti on drums, Jay Lemak on keyboards & ambience, and Billy Marquardt on guitar. Lyrics are still being worked on as we speak... so as soon as a decent version is available, we will post it.

Life is definitely funny.
Metha Mean has been recording, on and off, for the past two years an album that is very different from the previous two releases. This third album, Yggdrasil, has had so far a dozen different contributors - I have surrounded myself with metal maniacs in the form of guitarists Frank Doré and Vince Diezel; the punk-fucking-rock and kiss-my-ass-no-bullshit attitude of bassist Dave Ledo; beat-meister Paul Jaworski; mad-genius and Jesus look-alike Jay Lemak, whose keyboard playing has been the one missing ingredient we have been looking for for so long; drummer extraordinaires Roland Gheti and Simon Langlois (who is now playing for Alain Caron); bassist Raf, formerly of Angry White Mob, who was there early on in the recording process, who helped write a couple of songs and get the band back on track after a terrible 2004. Without these people, Metha Mean wouldn't be here doing what we are doing now.
We have so far fourteen songs for Yggdrasil, but only nine of them will make it - nine because that's how many branches the tree the album is named after has. We may need help selecting which songs will make it to the album, a process we'll get you all to participate in with the help of myspace. Details will follow soon.
In the meantime, we are still looking for a drummer or two (unfortunately, Roland and Simon are just not available for live shows). We have had a few pokes and prods from some drummers on myspace, but schedules and distances have prevented those guys from making a clear commitment to the Mean. The ideal drummer would be someone who resides in Toronto, has his own kit and his or her own transportation, is available a couple of evenings a week for rehearsals, and has the experience and/or the skills to play with click tracks, sequences and possibly another drummer. Just message us if you are interested. You can give a listen to the two demos that we have up on myspace, or you can go here to listen to material from our previous two albums. Influences? You had to ask... Anyone who has a bit of Bill Bruford, Brain Mantia, Martin Atkins, Manu Katché or Jerry Marotta in him is more than welcome to contact us. We would be more than happy to jam with you and try things out.
Stef
