Moria
Demo 2005

Salinas deathcore upstarts Moria bring the mosh and the metal with their latest demo, and man, has this thing got me psyched for a proper full length. No punches are pulled here; just tons of ear splitting leads, subterranean vocals, manic double mayhem and more breakdowns and two steps than your average kickboxing aficionado can handle.
Definitely nothing new, but still awesome stuff. Only three tracks here, but each one got me going. Zack Ohren (of the infamous Castle Ultimate Studios) is the consummate professional, coaxing million dollar sound on minuscule budgets, and this disc is no exception. Lyrics are decent, not too much that caught my attention, but the music makes up for any shortcomings in the wordsmith dept, and the lines do fit well with the neverending onslaught of annihilation. Keep your eye on these kids; big things are coming soon for them. Fans of Animosity, Red Chord, Premonitions of War and Embrace The End need to check Moria out now.

A review of our No Light Ahead album done by Arvin's Retcon zine.

The Boys from Salinas have done it again, and in a very grand way.  If you are a fan of drop B tuning with guitar melodies interwoven throughout, then pick this album up now.  Most people will write this band off as another "deathcore" band, but honestly those people are horribly wrong.  These guys pull the best influences from Martyr AD, Cannibal Corpse, and At The Gates with a hardcore spirit to spin an epic sound all their own.  No pig squeals found here, just heavy intense music laden with epic leads and solos.  The lyrics cover a lot of ground, from tongue and cheek songs about victory in battle to introspections on being straight edge to social commentary on orginized religion

Here's a statement by Vocalist Taylor Young:
    Five years ago we started Moria with the intention to make music, hang out with friends and play shows.  We had no expectations of touring or even releasing an album.  But as time went by our hard work and dedication brought this band far beyond anything we had dreamed.  We got to tour the country multiple times, meet tons of awesome people, and leave our mark on the music scene with our full length No Light Ahead.
    However, It's become increasingly harder to maintain Moria at the level it's at, balancing school, work, and touring.  We came to the conclusion we needed to drop everything and start touring full time or stop touring all together.  Since Keith and myself are both in college and only have a few years left we elected that no touring would have to be the choice.  Along with that, a few of us are happy with our positions  at our jobs and tired of having to quit and find new jobs every few months after we get back from tour.  Most of us have had the best times of our lives while on tour, but some times it gets to the point that you need to make a decision to dedicate yourself to one thing or the other.  After this decision we also figured it would be best to just end the band.  We'd much rather stop while we're some what ahead rather than just fizzle out slowly.
    For some of us, this has been our lives the last five years. We will all miss the good times, road trips and tours.  But at the same time we couldn't be happier with this band going far beyond what we had intended.  A few of us will be starting a little less serious project while James is going on to play bass in Molotov Solution.  We want to thank everyone who was involved with Moria at one point or another. Passed members, Ruben, Jaeson, Tim and Steve, along with Jesse from The Wrath and Brandon Abhorrence for filling in at various times.  Also Zack Cepin for getting us our first few shows along with Jason and Charlie for keeping the Salinas scene going and booking shows.  Joel and Matt at Process Records for putting out our only release and always being there to support and help.  All of our families for supporting all of our hopes and dreams of this band.  Without their support Moria would have gone no where.  We have a few last shows leading up to our final show in Salinas on June 28th, if you live anywhere close to these areas come and hang out with us one last time!  We'll have a limited amount of merch and cd's at these shows, so come and buy some stuff cause it'll be your last chance.  Thanks again everyone!

1. Where did the name Moria come from?
-Moria is from Lord of the Rings (yes some of us ard nerds), for further
info about that go watch the movie or read the books

2. Are you guys a straight edge band?
-No, Although most of us are straight edge.

3. Will you play at my birthday party?
-Most likely not, but maybe we'll just go for the free cake.
Why?
-We need to play real shows to pay the bills.

4. When are you playing "insert random town" again?
-Look at our shows section, if it's posted there, we're playing it. If we're not then contact someone that books shows in your town and get us there.

5. I heard you're playing "insert random town" but it's not posted on your myspace.
-Then we arent playing it.

6. Are you deathcore?
- No

7. You guys use to be way more br00tal with inhale growling, what happend?
-We never had inhale growling, and we're more brutal then you or your mom ever will!

8. Why did you change your style?
-What was our style? We dont like to rewrite the same songs over and over again, so that means they cant all sound the same. Not every song can be "on the eve..".

9. I really like your band, will you help me find a guitar player for mine?
-No, we have our own problems to deal with.

10. I wanna book you guys, how do i do that?
-Send us a message with all of the info. Date, time, place, who's on the bill etc.

11. I wanna book you guys, do i have to pay you?
-Depends, we usualy ask for a gaurantee. Why do we ask for that? Because it costs money to be in a band. We have van payments, insurance payments, and merch debt to pay back. We're not being dicks asking for money, we're just tired of being in debt in our person lives because of the band. If you're afraid of not making enough money to pay bands, start promoting more.

12. Do you like hippies?
-Although one of us is from the hippy capitol of the world (santa cruz, ca), no we dont like them at all. Everytime someone eats a steak, a hippie's hacky sack goes in the gutter, remember that.

13. I wanna buy a shirt, but i live far away!
-You can buy merch from our online store that's on our myspace, it's right there in plain site.

14. How long until my merch order will get to me?
-2-3 weeks.

15. What makes you guys happy?
-When you go to our shows, buy our merch, and tell your friends about us :-D

-No.
