County Line Demo and Pics from the RoadGreetings from NYC, I hope you are doing well wherever you are! I finally got rid of my laryngitis. Yeah! Good for me...not so good for my hubby:) I have lots of shows coming up, so it is nice to be able to sing again. Here is the next video in the VLOG series. The demo is a song called "County Line." I wrote it after coming home to NYC after being on the road for about a month. Even though it is always good to come home, after a couple weeks that ol' gypsy living inside my heart wants to be set free. The song is accompanied by pictures from my touring. I hope you enjoy and you may see a picture of you on here! Hi there, Thanks to all that attended shows, tuned into radio and TV, and sent emails last week while I was in Minnesota. I can't believe they are still getting hammered by winter. The robins especially looked confused! I had 2 days of pre-production with Matthew Patrick at a studio called The Library in northeast Minneapolis. The new CD will be called "Long Ride" and currently has 10 tunes on it. I recorded a demo guitar/vocal track that can be heard while watching the video here: http://vickyemerson.blogspot.com/Or here: http://www.vickyemerson.com/LongRide1.wmvI'm no Steven Spielberg, but it gives you an idea:) For those of you in New York, please come to my birthday show tomorrow night (April 8) at the Living Room at 7pm. I'm heading over to a friends house tonight and we are making chocolate chip cookies for anyone who comes to the show and her recipe is delicious!! ( www.livingroomny.com) I hope all is well wherever you are and please visit www.vickyemerson.com for summer tour dates! Cheers, Vicky www.vickyemerson.comwww.myspace.com/vickyemersonMusic available at www.cdbaby.com or Itunes.

Greetings from the road! I am in Minneapolis enjoying a very tall iced latte working on a few emails before my show. It is above freezing here so I am making the transition to iced drinks in hopes that warm weather is sure to follow! I have had a somewhat interesting week. I went to a birthday party for a friend and after dinner wound up at a club where Ice-T was hosting a party for his wife, Coco. Now, many of you know that I am pretty well addicted to Law and Order and I am totally in love with Law and Order SVU, so I was excited to see Mr. Ice T in person. I will say that he is much shorter than I thought he would be. Then, a few days later I was on the corner waiting for walk signal and I crossed paths with none other than Ted Danson, who was much taller than I thought he would be. I have a few shows this week and I also begin pre-production on the next album at a studio called the Library with producer, Matthew Patrick. It will be a busy week and my intention is to begin a video log of the process so if you are curious, you can watch the process of creating an album. For those of you around this week, I do have a really fun gig on April 1st with Lonnie Knight ( www.lonnieknight.com) who is an amazing musician and host of Twin Cities Live Internet Show (*streaming avail. at www.twincitiesradio.net) or attend in person at Coffee Grounds in Falcon Heights at 7pm. ( www.thecoffeegrounds.net). Please swing by! In other news, I am actually celebrating my birthday this year instead of wallowing. If you are in NYC on April 8th, please come on over to the Living Room at 7pm. There will be music, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and good cheer! ( www.livingroomny.com) Hope you are doing well wherever you are! Happy Trails, Vicky

Greetings from New York, Well, I thought spring had officially sprung this week as the temperature in Manhattan was a balmy 55 degrees, the sun was shining, the dirty snow melted away and the subways started to smell like old moldy basements again. Just when I thought it might be safe to pull out the spring coats, the temps dumped back into the 20's today. Ugh. Spring is being rather stubborn this year and it seems wherever my travels take me, everyone is ready for some robins, mud, tulips and warm weather. My 10K is now only a month away and I'm pleased to report that the treadmill has not kicked me off and I am up to running at least 4 miles a day. I created a grooving mix on my IPOD that helps me not dwell on the pesky aches and pains that have somehow crept into the crevices of my joints since my 30th birthday. However, in our gym each treadmill has it's own TV and most are turned into CNN or some news channel. I must confess the constant bombardment of bad news from the media is really starting to annoy me. I mean, there has to be SOME good news out there, right? Well, I didn't have to look far to find it, so on this Friday the 13th, here is some good news I shall share with you: 1.) The New York Times reported that 80's rock fashion and jumpsuits are making a comeback from spring. Remember those lovely jumpsuits from the 80's? If not, go rent an episode of 'Falcon Crest' or 'Dallas' to refresh your memory. Does this also mean we will start seeing those high-reaching mall bangs, wearing one white glove, jelly shoes and red-striped leg warmers again? One can only hope. 2.) Bernie Madoff is now in the Manhattan jail after spending some quality time last week in his posh apartment mailing jewels to relatives as to not loose his entire fraudulent legacy. He may face 150 years in prison. Now, I believe he is 70 years old. I am thinking there might be a more appropriate sentence than for him to sit on his arse until he keels over from boredom. I would start with sending him down to the subways to begin some spring cleaning and perhaps corralling the rats that are as large as chubby cats. 3.) Whitney Houston has a new album coming out. After she was dumped into rehab for the 100th time, she has 'officially' cleaned up her act. I'm sure the album will be filled with touching songs about her past like "Crack is Whack" and "My Ex-Husband is a One Hit Wonder." Can't wait to buy it. 4.) Angelina Jolie is reportedly pregnant....again....with twins...again. Hold on everyone, she is populating her own village. 5.) Tator tots (a.k.a. "Tots") are making a comeback thanks to the movie, "Napoleon Dynamite." Not only can you toast 'em up and eat them as is, you can also bake them on top of casseroles (a.k.a. "Hot Dish"), serve 'em on a stick at the fair, or use as the filling for a sandwich. A nice, healthy, low-carb snack. 6.) It is time to celebrate St. Patrick's Day which involves honoring short little people by drinking. Has to be one of my favorite holidays. 7.) Finally, I am pleased to announce that I will be releasing a new CD in the fall. I am very excited to share the songs I have been working on for the past two years with you. I will be posting previews on the new songs as they come together this summer. Please put Sept. 26th on your calendar for the CD Release with the All Man Band at the Mabel Tainter in Menmonie, WI. ( www.mabeltainter.org.). Please visit my website for spring and summer shows in your area. I hope all of you are healthy and happy. I have caught a whopper of a cold and have been sniffling, sneezing, coughing for over a week now. So, now I can justify my daytime watching of Law and Order episodes as I try to recover! I am working on booking a tour for the summer. Thanks to all of you who emailed and scheduled a house concert. It looks like I will be coming to Texas in May, Chicago in June and Colorado in July. Also, I'll be back plenty this summer to the good ol' Midwest where I know they are all anxiously awaiting springtime. If there are any of you that would like me to play a show in your town or host a house concert, please let me know and I'm happy to help arrange it. My cold medicine seems to have dulled not only my sense of taste but also my sense of humor. I promise a more entertaining email after complete recovery! ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************** GIGS: Friday, February 20 318 318 Water Street Excelsior, MN www.three-eighteen.comwith Dean Magraw ( www.deanmagraw.com8pm showtime and reservations are recommended. Greetings from NYC,
I hope you are doing well and surviving winter. I don't know about you, but I am soooooo ready for spring.
I had another publishing contract come in last week for 2 of my piano solos, "Goodbye San Francisco" from REACH and "Memento" from DREAM WITH ME. The publisher is from the UK and they specialize in TV and Public Radio placements, so I was excited about that.
Speaking of TV, I mentioned in a previous email that after a couple glasses of wine at a holiday party in NYC, I signed up to run a 10K in April in Central Park. So, that means I actually have to train for it. Specifically, I have to run for extended periods of time for no good reason.
Sometimes, I am not in the mood for music and our gym has a TV at each treadmill that you can plug your ear phones into and watch. Somehow, I have become addicted to re-runs of Law and Order--Criminal Intent and Special Victims Unit. They run from 2-4pm everyday. About 1:30pm, I actually get excited to go to the gym. When I get to the gym, I hurriedly turn on the TV, plug in, hit the Quick Start button on the treadmill, and wait for the mysterious music to start. "Dun-Dun." Wooh-Hoo, time for crime!!!
Should I be concerned that I can't wait to watch a show with dead bodies and violence every day? Maybe I have become a New Yorker. :) *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Current mood: cold
1.) You start your car and it groans at you. In car talk that means: LEAVE. ME. ALONE. 2.) The temperatures have dropped so far below zero that your thermometer doesn't have a number but rather a note saying: "You are crazy to live here." 3.) Your eyes and nose actually have small icicles hanging from them. 4.) Schools deem due to weather it is actually lethal to attend classes. 5.) You wonder if Al Gore actually visited Minnesota in January before he started making the case for global warming. 6.) People stop saying "It could be worse" because honestly, after 20 below, it really is all the same, right? 7.) You actually think 30 degrees sounds balmy. 8.) In a moment yearning for spring, you deliriously mistake a chickadee for a robin. 9.) You count the days until April 1st because after a winter like this, we deserve an early spring. 10.) You stop calling friends who live in warmer temperatures because you just can't take their comment of "Gee, it was 80 degrees and sunny today." So, obviously, I'm in Minnesota right now freezing my you-know-what off. Wow, it is cold. But for those folks in MN, please consider letting your car warm up for an hour, wear as many layers as you can possibly put on and journey out to the 318 tonight. It will be a great show--I promise. Friday, January 16 318 318 Water Street Excelsior, MN www.three-eighteen.com8pm/$11 Next week, I'm back in NYC for a great gig on Tuesday. Tuesday, Jan. 20th Living Room UPSTAIRS at Googie's 154 Ludlow-NYC 7:30pm www.livingroomny.comI'll type more later. My fingers are going numb. Happy Trails, Vicky

Current mood: inspired
Greetings from New York City, I hope you had a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. I know I definitely had my fill of ham, but make no mistake--I'll be ready for more in time for Easter! This year represents a fresh start for me and I have heard from many folks who share the same sentiment. I looked at my calendar from last year and reflected on the many, many places my Toyota and I traveled to and the people I met. One of the things I enjoyed the most was meeting really wonderful strangers who in turn became fans who in turn became friends. One can never have too many good people in their life, right? I feel very thankful that my life has become plum full! So, as I turned the calendar to 2009, I asked myself what I really desire to accomplish this year. I'd definitely like to put together an album and continue touring. I signed up to do my first 10K in April in Central Park. Aside from the professional goals, I also made a promise to myself to slow down. Now, not slow down in the sense of sitting on the couch popping bon bons, but slow down and be in the moment. I find myself multi-tasking to the point where I usually wind up injuring myself. (See Coffee Pot Explosion blog and Falling Down the Subway Stairs blog and Falling Down Again While Trying To Run blog at www.myspace.com/vickyemerson.) Usually, at the start of every year I make a laundry list of 'resolutions' and then find that as life revs up and becomes busier, I don't accomplish all that many. So, this year I decided not to make the endless to-do list, but instead made a promise to take better care of myself and enjoy the music and good people around me. Please feel free to share your resolution or ideas at http://vickyemerson.blogspot.com/. I've got some shows coming up and also a few openings. Now, many of you have asked about hosting a house concert. I am looking for 2 in March in the WI or MN area. The dates are Friday, March 6 and Friday, March 27. If any of you are interested in hosting a spring house concert or would like more information, please send me an email at vickyemerson@aol.com. It truly is one of the best ways to experience live music. You invite your friends, sit down with a tasty beverage and I play music for you. Not a bad deal, huh? Reservations are recommended. Tuesday, January 20th Living Room/Googie's Lounge UPSTAIRS. This will be an awesome evening of music with guest host, Maura Kennedy (from the Kennedy's). This is a series called the "UPSTAIRS SESSIONS" at the Living Room in NYC on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:30-9:30pm. One part live performance, one part talk show: The Upstairs Sessions features musical performances by two artists (Kelly Flint and I) interspersed with intimate and open conversation between the artists and host. Discussion topics include but are not limited to the artist's song writing processes, musical experiences and the inspiration behind their songs. The evening includes an open forum between the artists and the audience. Kelly Flint was inspired to start the Upstairs Sessions by the TV show 'The Actor's Studio'. She felt that people come to see artists perform but never really get to experience them behind the scenes. Hope you are enjoying the hustle and bustle of the season! I have been the entertainment for many holiday parties and will be flying back on Friday for several more plus some holiday shows with Don Shelby on WCCO, Dean Magraw at the 318 and back to Elmwood for the annual holiday show!
